OK. I've been wanting to post comments in The Bar for ages but have been frustrated with the inane babble about "you're-favourtie-this-and-that-top-11".
All they do is expose how truly awful some NZM'ers tastes in music are!
yes this one is good, the lack of newzealand music fustrates me, I understand that it is difficult to access a lot of it, but bugger me Alex, it almost seems like 1/2 the people on this best of kick aren't even bloody trying.
well you can't expect everyone to be into nz music to the same degree. obviously we all like it, because we all bothered to sign up to nzm! i think thats about all you can ask of people.
I know this is a gross generalisation, but in scrolling through these lists I am confronted with a dirge of Americanised nu-metal crap. In some cases it looks like people have simply done the old copy n' paste on previous comments. Makes me wonder why they bother logging on to a NEW ZEALAND MUSIC website at all . . . . .
// I suspect that's just a reflection of the people who still bother to post in those lists.
Thats true.
//Makes me wonder why they bother logging on to a NEW ZEALAND MUSIC website at all . . . . .
Maintaining an interest through regurgation, hoping to stimulate more discussion I suspect.
//Surely even the people who are still writing these stupid lists must get sick of doing it over and over ad nauseam?
Unless you have a new people engaging in the discussion & building online relationship with others with similar tastes....yes, I'm feeling a wee bit queezy now.
As a long time casual lurker, I'm finally feeling compelled to write, why?
I'm hoping to be directed toward something I haven't heard, something that is going to blow me away.
I'm already converted to NZM & 90% of my purchases are local.
The "Best of's" " Compilations" etc whilst probably done to death, still provide an insight to forum posters not gained through bitching, slagging off or name calling.
maybe the compliation topic should have said:
"if you had to make a New Zealand compilation CD........"
But it didn't specify..... it's all good - it'd be worse if there was NO NEW ZEALAND music at all :-)
//a dirge of Americanised nu-metal crap
// //I suspect that's just a reflection of the people who still bother to post in those lists.
I think it also reflects the age of the posters to a degree. It made me laugh that a 15 year old can think that the 10 best albums released in their lifetime were all released in the last couple of years. Basic probability suggests that they are likely to at least relatively well spread over your lifetime; and also that it is unlikely that 3 of them could be by the same artist.
I like nz music, but a lot of bands that you guys talk about I've never heard of, because they don't have albums avalible in the stores, no mp3s (but this is changing thanks to this web site),not many come down here to play gigs, not on radio & not on tv (thanks to tvnz).
But I'm trying to learn from you guys about more nz music :)
// Yep, But if you actually make up tapes of your "best of's" its not time wasted.
My bestof today,is tad different to last years
I dozens and dozens of old compilation tapes... it's really interesting to chuck on a tape which I made 10 years ago (shcool time) and listen through it again... Good compilations always last, I have a couple I made a few years ago which I still listen too lots cause they're good mixes...
Well this is called "The Bar" and there never was any quota on how many NZ related topics we should have in here. I'm sure everyone from what i've seen so far who want to talk about NZ music does so in an artists forum or the New Zealand Music forum. but yeah these "best of" topics are'getting a little derivative, but sometimes they are fun when ur bored.
it's not about New Zealand music topics, it's about how even here on nzm when people were making lists very little NZM was being mentioned, ........... or is it possible that the new troll is right and you (the general you) do think that it all sucks and is not world class?
"Hell, it's a bar - do what you like, but if it gets messy watch for bouncers! "
IT was getting messy and the bouncers came ... no hurt no foul.
I guess I will stick my neck out on the chopping block here and say.
if I ever went to a bar and person kept asking what my top five this and top five taht and favourite was it. I would get well bored and tell to piss off.
so what I am saying is occasionly this might be an interesting topic but not all the bloody time
It is awefully high-handed to abuse people who might enjoy such topics. You seem to be claiming that you ought to have, by right, some kind of monopoly/censorship on what other users want to talk about...

Yeah you're probably right. All I'M asking is for people to keep these inane lists to the (insert lame nu-metal band's name here) guest book.
Now I feel like a fascist. OK, I'll try again . . .
