bass tab

oh...er....i can't play this bass tab...

blur - coffee and tv
blur - the universal.

in the universal i can't even hear the bass....err...*whimper*...is this just because i'm a really shitey bassist, or is alex james the shitey one, or does it just sound like my stereo is stuffed (because it is)...

does anyone have any suggestions...i found the tabs at the basstabarchive.com and this is the first time i've tried playing blur stuff and the first time i've had trouble with tab in general.

Forums: The Bar,

much of the time the bass in 'universal' follows or is replaced by the cellos - try headphones to spot it

coffee and tv - bass pretty much underlies what's happening on acoustic guitar

pretty unusual for Alex James lines, as they're often quite oblique and stand apart from the rest of what's happening in the song. there ought to be a lot of blur support out there, as the band put the chords for (almost) all of their songs in their CD booklets ... if you can getta hold of the booklets and check them against what basstaarchive says ... often what they put in the CD booklets is real basic compared to what they actually play, but it's a good place to get into the song b4 attempting the bells and whistles ...

cool, thanks : ) last night i had a look over the lines again and i've got them a bit more down pat and understand what i'm doing a lot more. That's amazing that they but the chords in the cd booklets...i never knew that...

mmm, bass!

Oh my, how sad some people are.
Peddling TAB to fledgling bass players is like selling crack to schoolchildren.
Learn to play.
Use your ears.

I don't think picking up notes by ear is something that happens straight away when learning bass... well not for most people, at least not me anyway :s

I guess theres no better way to learn to tab by ear other than playing and paying attention to the way each note sounds? but is there any good little tricks to use to make the process easier, or any tools of sort (other than your ear?)

Try some Ear Training sites on the net. I've linked one below.
Get familiar with how the intervals and chords sound, learn their names, then learn how to play them on your instrument. You don't need perfect pitch at all to be able to transcribe any music, just good relative pitch - the ability to identify a pitch by comparing it to another.
