But so many great musos both dead and alive. Janis Joplin would blow most of todays crop of female singers off the stage for example. I could go on ... and on ... and on!!
Having created all these great bands has anyone given any thought to how they would sound? Or more especially how difficult it might be to actually get anything decent out of them.
After all a band is much more than the sum of it's parts. There were a number of so-called supergroups in the 70's and 80's that managed to stay together for an album or two and then imploded under the weight of all the egos.
Part of what makes a great band just that is that undefinable chemistry that seems to exist between the members. Things just click. Often when one member leaves and is replaced the band is ust not the same, particularly live.
(And there are of course heaps of exceptions to this rule. The Rolling Stones leap to mind ... though there are still 3 core members left the band has had quite a few lineups over the years.)
That's a good consideration.
I think that the band I created would gel rather easily. Ginger Baker and Eric clapton have all played together in Cream, and Hendrix has "jammed" with that band on occassion.
My biggest worry would be ozzie osbourne. Provided he wasn't in his current drug-induced retardedness, I think he would fit in fine. Otherwise the band could just play instrumentals, and I'm sure that would be just as good.
Its true what you say htough, about hte clicking thing... i have friends that i play with and we fit in to time really well, yet others who are technically better and more talented, we don't gel as well... its an interesting one...
I think a respect for one anothers abilities, tastes and tolerance of limitations goes a long way.
