favourite guitarist?

pretty simple, who is your favourite guitarist in the world today?, from a band, or does his own solo thing, or even both. so who is it :)?

Forums: The Bar,

mine would have to be.... *drum roll*

Kerry King

also Jeff Hanneman (i always spell his name wrong so don't blame me if i did :P)

Dave Grohl

+ Jon Toogood

damn straight :)

today... so that implies htey are alive....

Saul Hudson, but i haven't really heard much from the snake pit...

So i give it to Tom Morelo

yeah, well its better if they are alive, or else everyone would chose hendrix :P

Nice.
What do you think of "Audioslave".

Audioslave are pretty good if you ask me. Overall snake pit isn't that impressive, I do however think that slash plays one of his greatest solos in 'serial killer'

Well I've heard the audioslave album... and its fantastic, i intend on buying it...

from radio play it sounds like rage, with pure brilliance of chris cornells octive blowing lungs filling the gap... but after listening to my mates copy of the album, its not all like that...

I owuld like to see them get into an even more original groove if they release another album.

***I pick slash because of guns'n'roses... but gave my vote to tom becasue of the fact hes far more current... if i was to list my all time faves, tom would come in behind slash.

I really like the album too. It has a nice pace, and borrows from the best aspects of the merged bands.

I agree that they could establish a more original groove, it does sound a little too "rage-esque" with Cornell assuming the role of the screamer. There are a couple of tracks that come close to that, I think, although another couple would have been nice.

1. Steve Vai
2. Joe Satriani
3. Stevie Ray Vaughan
4. Ry Cooder

Stevie Ray Vaughan
was going to be who I added to the list, but then y said they had to be alive...... yeah good call with ry cooder

Any guitarist who doesn't wank on about how good they are or what guitar they play.
You know who you are.

I'd probably go with saul

surprise surprise

Michael Angelo and Chris Broderick. Can't go wrong with either

Michael Angelo and Chris Broderick. Can't go wrong with either

Ummm,
Dave Grohl (but I like his drumming better)
Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters, Me First & the Gimmie Gimmies)
James Hetfield
Pat Smear (ex Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Germs)
John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

Johnny Marr :)

yeah, i'd agree with that

D A V I D M I T C H E L L

many come second, but there is only one who really stood at the crossroads and traded his soul. there aint many things finer in life than listening to a blistering-beautiful-death-sublime 3Ds lead Dave Mitchell break. even his small contribution to the Muttonbirds was pure genius.

Gareth Price.

...and Nuno Bettencourt

That guy must be kicking himself for forming a band with cherone

meh, I don't think Gaz is that bad. I quite like his voice...he had terrible hair for the first coupla albums though. He looked like a giant hook-nosed black poodle.

you could never have a respected band with a frontman like Cherone

King Dave (or Dave Mustaine from Megadeth to those who don't stalk him) an his friend Marty lol
J Yeungar from White Zombie (La Sexorcisto & Astro Creep 2000)
Dino Cazarez from Fear Factory
Jerry Cantrell - AIC
Dimebag from Pantera for sheer talent

Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom (melodic death band from Finland)

jimmy page, john frusciante, mike einziger, ani difranco (basic, but effective) brian may. also, that guy from sum 41 is pretty good. as much as i hate sum 41, you have to give the guitarist some credit

and kirk hammet (opps)

// that guy from sum 41 is pretty good

Yes in terms of modern guitarists, but he is smoked by every 80s guitarist.

// brian may

shit, I can't believe I forgot to mention him

and i forgot tom morello too

keith richards, johnny marr (smiths), joe perry (aerosmith)!

dave grohl
kurt cobain

Jimi ain't dead, man, he's living in my garage.

aaawww god dammit and i didn't meet him! :(

Lee Gaze (LostProphets)
Mike Lewis (LostProphets)
John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Dan Donegan (Disturbed)
Daron Malakian (SOAD)
Tom Morello (RATM)

I know I have more, but hey.

Oh yes daron Malakian... i'm no guitar tech expert, but from all acounts what i've heard through guitar people... that guy is actually a totally amazing guitarist.

In no patricular order and not neccesarily by top notch skill.
Billy Howerdel(A Perfect Circle), Brian Molko (Placebo), Adam Jones (Tool), Jon Toogood (Shihad), underated Phil Knight (Shihad), Matthew Ballamy (Muse), Goldenhorses guitarist(s), Daniel Johns(silverchair), Daron Malakian (System of a Down), Tom Morello (Audioslave/RATM), The guitarist in Sahara Hotnights, Victoria Girling-Butcher(Lucid 3), Chris Cornell (ex-soundgarden), Kurt Cobain(Nirvana), Josh Homme(Queens of the stone age), Zack Wylde(Ozzy), Sara and the other guy from The Superjesus, Robert Smith(The Cure), Noodles & Dexter (Offspring), The guitarist out of The Misfits, Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead), PJ Harvey, John Frusicante(RHCP), John5(Marilyn Manson), Julia Deans and Andrew Bain(Fur Patrol), Aimee Banks(Foamy Ed), Dave Grohl(Foo Fighters/Nirvana), the guitarists in Faith No More and thats all i can remember at the top of my head.

eheh and i thought it was fave guitarist.. not every guitarist remembered at the time of posting :P...

My mate reckons john toogood is rather sloppy, result of trying to be big show performer... that there other guitarist holds is together... hence not too much variation between guitar parts... thats not to say hes sloppy when hes not performing...

Can't believe I forgot Daron Malakian!! I love his style, its so original and hooky........oh err... hooky even

thats true hes a nuts guitarist

head, munky, daron malakain, jimi hendrix, stevie ray vaughan, led zeps guitarist, twiggy ramirez, wes

// led zeps guitarist

sorry dude but that comment makes me believe that you don't listen to led zep and are just saying it to be cool. Honestly man how could you not know the guitarist from led zep's name?

// led zeps guitarist

geeeeeze...i thought everyone knew his name

think whatever you want saul, but the fact i cant remember his name just means that, i wouldnt post something if i didnt mean it, unless i was being sarcastic

""sorry dude but that comment makes me believe that you don't listen to led zep and are just saying it to be cool. Honestly man how could you not know the guitarist from led zep's name?""

haha, we can't all be music snobs man :)...

Knowing Jimmy Page's name is not a trait of a music snob. It is a trait of an intelligent human being.

:)

the edge from U2 - very unique style all of his own unlike any guitar player ive ever heard. i love the sounds and riffs that come from his gat.

Definitely, The Edge is my favourite guitarist bar none.
