ok, i know a lot of people on NZM will be in the 6th or 7th form, and therefore have commonrooms, and most of these will have a stereo in them. does anyone have some sort of a system for deciding whos playing what? at my school the system is everyone just changes the cd when they dont like the song, and paul the remote nazi will skip practically every song half way through it to annoy people. grrr. the other thing that really bugs me is that if you put in a cd that people don't know, in particular new zealand music, they wont listen to it. they'll skip it untill they find a track they do know, or just put on a different cd. it drives me nuts! the other thing that drives me nuts is that i have to stand on tip toes to actually change the cd. damn tall people in my form who decided to stick it up high! grr.

ejector or cassttee
gramsci or shihad
the only band i know i might get some support for is the balck seeds
cause "rock" sucks
and "dub" is cool
grrrrr

instead of obscure american punk or gangsta rap, the guys in my form seem to prefer either real old school stuff (like 'Summer of '69') or else real mainstream stuff like Linkin Park or Alien Ant Farm or Nickelback *shudder* They haven't even heard of half the stuff i enjoy.

likewise - 6 years ago they were still playing bryan adams and all that in the commonroom even tho some folk brought in aqua, hanson and **shudder* Spice Whores and BumSuck Boys, of course us PanterA loving 7ths would keep them to a confinement.

At the moment Blue and Nelly are getting pretty heavy play...... so most days when I got a study I try and escape out the main gate and go home.
I've started taking my discman to school so I can play my own damn music, batteries are hell expensive tho.

Atleast u guys have a common room. Our one got taken away from us a yr before it came to our turn to being 7th form. So now at lunch we sit around and stuff. However, if you had to say what kinda of music the majority of our school is into, it'd have to be some pretty mainstream crap. ick, the number of times i've head people singing along to blue makes me sick :S

We don't even have a bloody common room, but we have a school radio station. Last year there was a group that played just NZ Music, but it was all well known stuff-eg-shihad, goodshirt, the feelers etc.
We have stuff for school bands though, like today we have the big lunch out which is where school bands play on the field and everyone watches. We also have the same thing in winter but inside.

its been 5 and a half years since i left school and we never had a radio station, but we did have a 7th form common room, much o fthe time all the stuff they played was techno but id bring in a metal cd and theyd all listen cept for the ones who though metal where not there cuppa tea.

At my school we have a radio station thingy. Last year the playlist was pretty repetitive, consisting of Incubus, 1 Creed song and some other stuff. its basically 6th formers and upwards who are the "dj's" last week one lunch time they played a Nesian Mystik song, a Che Fu song and a Katchafire song over and over and over again. but yeah its only getting started up again so hopefully the "dj's" will get better.

I thought moving from a public school to a private one would mean less shit music - but no. Hip hop, rap, and r'n'b are all "cool" here. My art teacher lets us play music on our laptops in class, so there are 5 people playing Nelly, one hard-out whos been playing Disturbed ever since I asked to borrow that CD from him cause he now thinks he's cool, and me in the other corner of the room playing pink floyd or the chills. No one's heard of Ill Nino or the Verlaines or even Shihad. It's the same during study periods, if our mafia teachers let us play music. Really! My school sucks.

i'm only 6th form, so i wont get a common room till next year [unless i decide to go to uni and then i will never get a common room :o( ]. BUT, my form room is one of the art classes, and aparently for "inspiration" the teachers encourage us to play music, so they bought each classroom a stereo.
it works out pretty well, we take turns choosing what we're listening to. my school is currently going through the "not only is eminem cool, but he's actually, really, amazingly, shockingly quite a good performer" phase. i don't reallllly like eminem myself, but you learn to comprimise. my comprimise is either put on my diskman, or just leave the classroom.
my graphics teacher is a looney though - we're only allowed to listen to jazz and classical etc in class - because they are the only "proper musical stimulants"......she bought us the enya cd as a present for the class. go figure.
