Forums: NZ Music,

Me and my girlfriends will definatley make the

mission down to see 1QA again. But it would

be more worth it if they were much later into the day.

Also id like to see Mother Guru again.

Since Daz is asking, I assume Mother Guru are a definate. I'd be happy to see 1QA again too. You had Orkid for back-up on your tour... How about them?

Sorry there. i didnt know that he was from the band...

im goin to have a huge wellington bias here please excuse me :$ but these are the bands i see most often

ejector

how the fuck did i miss out 1QA???
definately later when there are more people would be better, cause they went off!!!

and a certain college band, if they're any good
daz, whens the last date, u can send in demos???

that looks like a really good list! other bands id like to see there would be Garageland, PanAm, St Lucy, Stardrunk, Pheonix Foundation, and what are the chances of Eye TV takeing a break from their break and doing a set at the cusp? *sigh* i wish.

mind you, id go even if just one of those bands were playing. but yeah, i really wanna see marystaple and pluto! that would rock. roll on new year, who ever's playing!

//whens the last date, u can send in demos???

//Applications close on May 31st.

Read boy! :-)

Two Lane Black Top
Golden Horse or Lucid3 but I think Golden Horse may do better in the setting
for the dub sound The Black Seeds, large stage act would go down well to dance the night away
OH I don't know, good luck Daz

Thinking Angel Hammer would be the one.......

I'd come if you had a liquor license

hahaha there seemed to many a young lass with a lion red in the mosh pit...
a) obviously underage
b) obviously carring alcohol

and it was supposed to be drug free too. yet there was that lady selling those dodgy 'bliss balls'. and then there was betchadupa... ; )

by the way, where can one get more of those 'bliss balls'?

hehe, kidding

keep 'em coming...

Paselode, Nouveau Riche, Phoenix Foundation, Shining Path, TLBT, Marystaple, Ejector–Keepn it wellington!

STARDRUNK!!!!!

Also, ejector, two lane black top, goldenhorse.

Daz I think there should be a definite correlation between the time of day and bands playing. Lazing back during the day to very relaxed soundz would be cool, and then bring the 'harder' acts on later. I admit I didn't stay for all of Rhombus but them coming on after the energy that was Betchadupa didn't quite feel right. I realise it's hard to put big names earlier in the day but it's just my thoughts.

I honesty don't know jimi, I think the idea of having a dub act up last, so it turns into a dance party is a great one, but it does need to be a high impact group like The black Seeds, who are pretty flipping good.
I mean who knew that betchdupa were going to explode they way they did, they have raised their game 10 fold since I last saw them, and then to have Rhombus go through techo stuff and try and cover it with chatter, my heart just bleed for them.
It will take a while to get the mix right, and the thing that scared the bejeeezus out of me was to talking to people round the place before hand who hadn't even heard of betchdupa or rhombus....... but one day the public of Nelson will click that we have something pretty damn fine happening, and I still live in hope for people to work out that they don't need grog to have a good time

Do you think if big names were put earlier in the day people would come for them? If only less known bands are in the earlier hours, of course the majority of people aren't going to come until later. Hmmm, I think I like the dub being after midnight so I don't have to stay too long when it gets freezing. & Even if the big names are spread out during the day, more money would get back to the council if people come & go all day. So yeah, I reckon spread out the lineup, then more people will be there to hear the littler guys inbetween.

i definitely agree about Stardrunk!!

stardrunk are awesome live, i saw them at '9 bands' in hamilton...very cool stuff

Betchadupa
Rhombus

Ejector

(While standing off to one side, he clears his throat in a remarkably exagerated manner . . . )

i'd just like to see myself there. im hoping to be in nelson for new years :)

MOTHER GURU, BETCHADUPA, TRINITY ROOTS, JACOB, 1QA, MINUIT, lUCID 3, ORKID, BLACK SEEDS, THE TUESDAYS, MASTER PILOT

That's a good list, I'll agree with that, nice variety.
I think a new headliner is needed though, Betchadupa can't be the main one every year.

I WOULD LUV TO SEE MASTER PILOT THERE AGAIN!!!! DAZ BRO YOU KNOW WHATS UP WITH THE PILOT AND THE PLANET 97FM, ANY I/V ABOUT THE CUSP O4 GET HOLD OF ME BRO

LATERS

I think that there should be one space left free, for that band that no-one has heard of yet, the band that starts being noticed and talked about towards the end of the year

that makes so much sense.

thank you

blindspott

Yeah it must be time for the rumours, leaks and teasers

cusp 04...

well i'd say straight off

Crumb
Cortina
TLBT

cortina are absolutely awesome, i was blown away by their set over the weekend, really impressed me, crumb, has carter as their really forceful singer, hes got so much stage prescence and almost as many crap jokes as spanky ex clowndog.
and what do you say to TLBT???
they are one hell of a live act

being an absolutely wellington bias i'll list 10 bands i'd like to see at the cusp 04

crumb
cortina
tlbt
1QA
stupid sausage
the accelerants
trillion
dark tower
disasteradio
mother guru
Blue Set
Batrider
rawer

well maybe not 10 but certainly wellington biased

good god, nooooooooooooooooo
Welly bands suck the big pineapple, you would be a fool to book any of them anywhere.

trillion AND dark tower?

getting a bit greedy there aren't we? :P

yeah well, its a wishlist, and those are the "hip-hop" artists (forgive me if i have the wrong genre) that i really enjoy listening to, no american accents (i know its cliched but i prefer my hip-hop new zeland style) and to me it sounds really different and interesting, innovative almost...

heh well we all know how crap the wellinton scene is now, palmy is where its at

/m/ /m/ RED-NECK METAL /m/ /m/

Hey - I saw Dark Tower coming out of Real Groovy today. Just another day in Wellington, Grimmybug ;)

oh jj don't be offended, just another of those tongue in cheek comments i like to make, jody lloyd is a talented bastard so i ain't complaining

faith - i have no doubt, however we've got the mono-poodread dwarf, sean sturm, and the deja voodoo (as they should be known), so i think we're doing ok ... oh did i mention who my drummer was?

;)

ok that last one's a cheap shot, we haven't had a practice in a few weeks now and he's making "i'm thinking of joining a rockquest band as well cos i wanna do practices again" noises ... as soon as we start up again we'll be sorted, otherwise i'm sure i'll feel like an idiot losing the perfect rock drummer

but hey what's the point of having a proven stadium rock drummer if we can't take him for granted ...

(we suck)

i can't believe i'm still at fucking work, night

Big ups!! to eveyone who has taken the time and initiative to send in demos and bios for this years event. As previously discussed, the council has confirmed funding for the next 3 years so if you don't make the bill this year, don't be discouraged!!!! The Cusp team have a vision...we see the event as a huge opportunity for up and coming bands to get to a new audience and established bands to get to a new audience. Nelson loves it!!! We have had some huge interest in the event from bands and the general public...this year is going to be huuuuge!!! We will be announcing the first bunch of performers in the first week of September, so keep checkin in...there will be less bands this year. We are running the event from 5pm rather than 1pm. There will be a big name early on, so make sure you are there when the gates open, it's going to be massive!!! There will be an official after-party this year also which will run from 2am 'til dawn...watch this space!
Respect to all who respect The Cusp!!
Be well...
