i guess its important to me that the image goes hand in hand with the music.
i personally think image is important, how the band wants to represent themselves to the public is important if you want to sell records and get fully booked shows. being youreself is always the best way to go thou, that way you dont always have to dress differently etc etc. i hate it when record companies try and make their artists look a certrain way, avril lavigne springs to mind straight away, her first single was country and she was dressed up as some lame wanna be punk who hangs at the mall with her "boys".

max is a fuckin flantastic singer, his voice is wicked. i mean his voice just amazes me, but the fact that he plays guitar, he'd have to be one of the best musicians of all time (in my humble opinion :))

The Ramones are *not* an ugly band. For many people they are sex symbols. And they were always stylized and heavily relying on an image. I am not dissing them, i like the Ramonnes alot. But to say they didn't rely on an image.... i dont know.
Image is so trendy-assed. Personally myself I don't really care as long as gimmicks don't overshadow the music itself (ie Avril Lavigne). I respect bands that go against what people would expect them to, basically diversity and individuality is admirable. Now im not saying bands have to look boring and just stay the same way when they get out of bed but nothing typical like millions of power-pop bands and their supposed "punkiness". But at the end of the day its all about the music, nothing but the music, the love for music and the influence of music. Nothing else.
Ok, let's say that there are two bands. They are equally talented. Their songs are equally good. Their live shows are both equally kick-arse. Their recorded stuff both sounds good. The members of both bands give good interviews. BUT one of the bands is really good looking, and the other is kinda ugly.
I'm going to be honest and say that I like bands that look good. I like it when Brandon Boyd takes his top off in Incubus videos. I like it when Josh Homme licks his guitar in the "No one Knows" video. But I like the music too.
Image is important - and it's part of what makes rock so great - but music is so much more important.
She never said that Archilles. She quite clearly stated how important music is, and that she likes both bands with and without image, but a good looking band offer a bit more entertainment sometimes.

there are some bands who i absolutely ADORE and i have absolutely no idea what they look like. but i guess their music projects a type of image in itself ... that's the sort of image i like.
wait and let me just add that the ramones were highly, highly stylized. Look at their record sleeves and everything they did. They made alternative music a lot more stylized actually. Did you know they actually started out as wanting to be like the bay city rollers?
They made great music, and i really like them, but lets face the facts.
