OK. So pacifier have made it on to MTV. So did the Datsuns, the D4, straitjacket fits, and zed.
I think it is bullshit that favouritism gets shown just to pacifier because the people who make this site are on pacifier's pay role.
I dont want to start another lynch andrew topic. But guys this is bullshit! I mean it could be in the news section, it could in the news from the band section. But a whole banner at the bottom of every page JESUS!!!!
It is awesome they made it on to MTV. All animals are equal but some are more equal than others is that right?

TODAY'S ACTION: VIDEO VOTE.
I assume that this means that there will be a different task every day.
It sounds to me like you're the one with the agenda Andoru.
This site is here to support the great music being made by New Zealanders.
How about suggesting some daily tasks that you feel could be more worthy.

Andrew you have no right to claim who pays me, or anyone else that makes this site.
We are helping OK. Get it?
Get your hand off it, and get behind this stuff. Tomorrow could be your band, but I guess that depends on your wonderful ability to win friends and influence people.

Dust, Why dont you at least put the other bands who MTV has videos of? Instead of Just pacifier?
My hand is not on anything i am just stating the fact that is only set up to help pacifier, when there is lots of great NZ bands MTV has videos of.
Do you not make the pacifier website? sorry i must be mistaken?
andrew, i do see your point. ...
andrew, i do see your point. seriously, i do. but at this point in time you've alienated every pacifier fan within nzm and i don't think you'd make this post if it was the datsuns with the banner.
dude, you're probably best to leave people to do their thing, nzm is run on blood, sweat and tears and if you don't like it, you know no one is making you stay here.
who knows, maybe your band will be there one day and i'm sure you'd want everyone behind you too.
The Fight the system feature is brand ...
The Fight the system feature is brand spanking new and will be a regular thing - one band/one mission per day or so. We'd like to think of it as a direct way of helping NZ bands kick arse around the world. Pacifier are currently on the rock voting list at MTV.com and are this week starting their US tour. Zed are not, however if we become aware of Zed making a voting list or similar we will certainly be including them in the Fight the System schedule. Andoru, excuse me for my sincerity but it is the end of a very long day and we honestly thought this feature would be a good thing for NZ bands - a way to make a tangible difference y'know? It would be really wonderful if you could try to get over your ongoing vendetta with Pacifier for a moment and see what we are actually trying to acheive for ALL new zealand bands with this feature and maybe even help us out with it.

I think it's a great idea. The music industry is full of record companies pulling sneaky tricks to help album sales. In Britain, for example, record companies often pay people to buy up large quantities of singles to help boost their chart positions. So we're pulling a few sneaky tricks of our own, but the difference is we're doing it to support bands we like.
If you think Pacifier suck arse, then there's no need to vote. But if, like me, you get a kick from the idea of a Pacifier video being shown on MTV, then vote!
Like the LA Times article has shown, if enough New Zealand bands get attention, then the whole scene gets attention.

Andoru, I think you've forgotten that this is a NZ music site and Pacifier have a fairly strong connection with NZ living here most of their lives and all...
What do you expect this site to do?
It seems logical that a New Zealand music website is going to try and help out NZ bands as much as possible.
Claiming that "The people who make this site are on pacifier's pay role" is a load of crap!
It's not like pacifier are in fact a bunch of money hungry business tycoons!

WARNING AKA LETS RIP WITH YET ANOTHER ...
WARNING AKA LETS RIP WITH YET ANOTHER STREAM OF BABBLE
As I see it we have 3 arguments happening here
The Pacifier thing
The Fight the System thing
And the Other thing
Ok the Pacifier thing, I like Andoru, on seeing the banner on each page, let fly with a couple of anglo-saxon phrases that had the cats running from the room, and on the surface it's an understandable reaction from someone who's not that keen on the band in question......
I think it went something like " fuckfuckedyfuck That Fooking Band isn't the only Fucking kiwi band trying to break into the fucking USA
But after a few minutes careful reflection, and thank god it wasn't my turn to be logged on giving me time to have a wee think.....
Although I personally don't like Pacifier that much, I acknowledge that fact that I came to them late and had already formed some strong opinions based on seeing them, when they were very young and I was too old to care.
Pacifier the album may not have been the best entry point, for me to start exploring them, but on hearing their acoustic set at Helen Young's, and far too many people / bands I do love, like and respect name Shihad as a major influence, for me to dismiss them totally......... hmm were was I going with this???
I think the most important thing for me to remember is I don't care what band is the thin edge of the wedge (and mixing metaphors here) as long as someone has a foot in the door it has to be good
I get the impression that "The Music Industry" i.e. the corporates, wants easy finds, and will go "discovering" within a already branded product.... in our case New Zealand Music....
We should/could turn one of their tools back on them ... Viral Marketing ... The more often they hear the words Kiwi and or New Zealand the better it will be for the next wave...... until that is, we fall back out of fashion, but hopefully by then New Zealand Music will have entranced the most important people in the industry, those being the people love good music more than they influenced by trends.
As to "Fight the System" maybe a better name would be "Fight Within The System"
The USA is riddled with payola, and I am sure that 30 pieces of sliver crossed someone's palm some where, it IS corrupt, it IS evil, but lets get totally real here it IS the way it works.
There is a system, let's use it without shame.
Ok as for the Other thing, I pause for a moment to spell check what I have written and to wonder at the wisdom of going to a place of possible no return.
A simple question
does nzm show favoritism towards some bands and if it does who's fault is it that it does?
Ha I lied it is not a simple question at all
first we have to think about who or what nzm is... is it 3 or so people giving of their time or is it an entire community?
If it is only the back room folk i.e. "the crew" how on earth can we expect them to be all and everything to every aspect of New Zealand Music??
They live in Wellington, so there will be a natural non-corrupt bias on their part towards things Wellington, just as I have towards Nelson, because this is what I see daily, this is where I go to gigs, this is where I bump into "people" in the supermarket.
For a small handful of people working with and on "Fairy Dust" they do an amazing job of keeping us all informed.
BUT if we say that nzm is a community made up of the posters, the bands and the crew it puts a whole different slant on the favoritism question.....
We as posters have to stop only just USING this site, we have to start contributing, and stop expecting the crew to spoon feed us. Yes there have been other bands on MTV, just as there have been other bands on Australian radio play lists.......
But who told who about it?
The bands themselves have to start being more proactive, I understand that the band part of nzm is new and may still be having some teething trouble...... But....
And then there is the whole bollix about not blowing your own horn, but bugger me, I come to this site to find out stuff and if the bands aren't letting anyone know what is happening, how in gods name can I or you or the crew for that matter have any idea???
To bottom line it,...... stop bloody moaning about what's not here, be bloody grateful for what is here, and start taking some responsibility..... it's not as if there aren't ways of submitting news items.
Phew here ends the babble, I hope I haven't step on too many toes and haven't overstepped some mark, but music evokes passion and I needed to let some boil over :)

there's my problem right there, why do we have to chase an illusion when the reality is
we live in a country that could embrace free energy technonlogy
stop using fossil fuels for profit, we would also cut down on poverty (less poverty = less crime)
we wouldnt have to pay for power or phone..........................
we could be completely organic, and laugh at the thought of g.e
legalise cannabis, and have a huge cafe and herb industry
air car, safe roads with clean air................. anti-gravity travel rather than planes
our own currency that we print and dictate it's value
a new system of government that works for the people it leads, rather than a bunch of insecure people
sucking cock, and rubbing palms
and local music that sounds like we've created it for people to enjoy it rather than for a radio wave or television broadcast or some one's bank account
i understand completely how long this would take maybe even a couple of lifetimes, but it kinda needs to be done yesterday,
The bands themselves have to start being more proactive,
yes thank you for pointing that out
there is no one else to change new zealand music other than the artists.
thats why i get frustrated when i watch n.z's artists mimick and clone overseas music, it defies the whole point of playing "original" music
and the only way any independent band can advance is for people to show up to gigs pay the entrance fee and support them by buying albums and t-shirts and all that shit....................
aka you are a bright spark in a dark room.
my apologies for the lack of choerent babble but im sure if i met you in person it would make sense as all this needs hand actions and music........
