Metallica to tour with Limp Bizkit & Linkin Park

Also so Deftones and Mudvayne
Ewww, what are they thinking??
I hope the new album doesn't sound nu-metal, puke.

Forums: The Bar,

i thought metallica were going back to their old style with the new album?
maybe i heard wrong :/

yeah dude ive heard it. its basically really like kill 'em all, with a little justice complexity. they even got dave mustain in to do a guest solo on one track.

ooooohhhhh if its like kill em all, i must here this!

yeah man. i dont play bass so i wasnt listening much to the bass, but after i heard it someone told me that theyve had a bassist for ages and theyre gonna do a big announcement that theyve got cliff burton back on bored. so that should be wicked.

for real?!!

anywhere i can listen to the new stuff?

poor y

my 'friend' hooked me up. i dont know where you can get it from. i really like kill em all too. though i like the selftitled one that they released before it better.

what are you smoking carl?

is that true about mustaine?

I'll assume you're being serious. Mustaine fucked up his arm in 2001 and will probably never play guitar again.

Man that's shitty.

To re quote Tama:holy shit what are they thinking!?

Well i love deftones... so no problem there...

mind you if you got to see all those bands on one ticket you couldn't really complain... linkin park and limp bizkit may not be my cup of tea, but they might be okay live, probably worth a look.

limp are wicked live

i used to like limp bizkit back in my 13 year old days, and at bdo 2001 ( i wasnt into limp really anymore). but all i can say is they put on a good show, and fred knows how psyk the crowd up.

Lars probably organised it.

"Limp Bizkit, led by multi-talented frontman Fred Durst burst on to the rock scene in 1997 with their masterpiece, Three Dollar Bill, Y'all$, and are credited with single-handedly re-invigorating the rock genre by changing the face of alternative and rock radio. "

oh my god

// Lars probably organised it.

i agree there, he'd be the most likely to out of himself, james and kirk.

I think it was his idea to do a tour with G'nR, and we all know what happened with that!

Yes we do.

this interview here tells you pretty much what you need to know, except on who the bassist is going to be

We should have a sweepstake - I think it's either going to be Mike Inez or the producer guy whose name I can't remember.

that was the rumor 2 years ago & the bassist from Megadeth
But it won't be Bob Rock

Id choose Deftones and Mudvayne anyday over those other 3 "bands"....I mean Metallica touring with Limp and Linkin Park??? what the fuck?

From Metal Sludge, gotta agree with them on this

Yeah I heard this rumor a while ago
I notice that they haven't mentioned Auckland, but if they do come I'll try my best to come up

I have to hear this...... I find it really hard to believe... NO metal band thats gone soft has ever gone back to their 'heavy' days..... a lot say they have, but nup

Things normally get worse when you try to recreate yourself by trying to be a version of your former style/selves. Metallica hasn't been heavy ever since Cliff Burton died. Maybe Metallica can prove us wrong or maybe not, we'll just have to wait and see.

what about the Justice album??

you think the black album isn't heavy? sure there is nothing else matters and unforgiven but that album is heavy as shit.....much heavier than justice...all tinny and scratchy..

heavier than Justice?? haha yeah right

Black was the beginning of the end

Justice For All was a good album from what i've heard but in "heavy" terms as in metal, speed metal, thrash whatever, everything post-Cliff Burton were departures from that. Especially the Black album. Justice was definitely one of their best in my opinion.

well i will finally lose my bogan status with this post hopefully. ignoring that it may just be due to better production, as metallica have progressed they have got heavier. im not saying they have got more 'metal', but the riffs have got heavier. its always heavier when its slower. hit the lights, damage inc, dyer's eve, theyre all thrash, but the real fast stuff is not really that heavy.
maybe if they recorded the old stuff now, with all their money, gear, time, etc. it would be heavier. i havent heard the reissued vinyl. maybe someone has and can comment on that? the first four albums have never been mastered for cd so the vinyl should sound better.

(i like atomic kitten).

//(i like atomic kitten).

PUKE!!

//but the riffs have got heavier.

Does that include Load and Reload? Remembering Load had songs like Mama Said, Hero of the Day, Until it sleeps.

carl is exactly right.thrashing and fast isn't heavy. the riffs on the black album are heavier than pretty much all their other riffs. load and reload don't count because they suck. the black heavy is heavy there are songs that aint so heavy like sandman, nothing else etc etc but sad but true is probably their heaviest riff.

// im not saying they have got more 'metal'

in my opinion, from black and after metallica isn't really 'metal' but just rock.

and my favourite album by them would have to be justice, followed closely by ride the lightning.

Yeah Metallica is just pretty much mainstream rock after Black. black kinda forshadowed their new direction.

// as metallica have progressed they have got heavier. im not saying they have got more 'metal', but the riffs have got heavier.

I think you can apply that to metal in general. I'm always hearing about these "metal" bands from the 70's and 80's that were mean but now their songs sound so wussy.

i think so too...but i can find two excpetions. ministry and bad brains.

Agreed Saul...

Catcher rye? whatcha listening to... listen to Dyers Eve, Blackened, Shortest Straw... and then listen to Sad But True, Hollier than thou... etc etc its candyfloss in comparison.. Basically a really good question to gauge what sort of fan you are talking to is to ask 'THE' question... whats your favourite metallica song... if the answer is enter sandman... a quick slap, look of disgust.. and then just walk away my friend... the lil fool isn't worth it heheh

theres a big difference between heavy and playing fast. sad but trues guitar sounds are heavier than blackened...motorbreath is my favourite song but ride the lightning is my favourite album and i think jstice has quite possibly the shittiest production ever...... question...tell me what other bands you consider heavy?

To me something 'heavy' is the whole package... the way its played, the lyrics, the feeling in the way its sang, its how it comes across.... people I consider heavy? Max Cavalera, Corey Taylor, Jon Davis, I know what you mean by 'playing fast vs heavy' and I still disagree with you..

And I don't think you get that from bands that are labelled 'heavier' like death/black metal bands, I don't consider these bands 'heavier' than sepultura. To me most of there songs are like cheesey 80's horror movies - murder violence chopping up people etc ... like Cannibal Corpse..'force fed broken glass, fucked with a knife' etc etc its humourous its that far fetched... a tiny percentage of the population actually does that stuff..

I guess a little bit of it depends on what the listener gets out of it/interpretation, but 95% of the time there is no mistaking that feeling put across when a truely awesome artist/band is expressing something true and pure! damn I love music ;)
