So the sample begins "Terrorists, trained by your powers, aim a couple of aeroplanes right into your towers..." and away it goes.
Honest, cutting and fucking angry are Eel and The Earl with this first offering from the new Dark Tower Album since the groundbreaking "Cantebury Drafts" in 2001. Politically charged, shocking and even eyeopening at times, these guys deliver the shit in a way that local hip hop seems to have forgotten all about, if they ever even knew in the first place. However, true to form, the lads find time amidst G.W Bush and the Iraq crisis to take pot shots at Che Fu for his blatant bending over and taking one up the bum for Nike. Nice one chaps, couldn't have said it better myself, oh wait...

Has anyone here being to the US? I always laugh (in a kinda sick-and-twisted whose falling for this shit/what's the world coming to? kinda way) when I hear comments from Saddam's side and Bush's side. Saddam is one whacked out dude - no one should lose sight of that amidst their disdain with Bush and Americans - his govt., people's religious outlooks etc are polar opposites to US - it's like America's suddenly decided the world's not big enough to have someone so different and so opposed to them actually co-existing on it with them...and actually think it is their place to make this decision.
However, what I find quite disturbing is that the "Americn Way" that Bush is trying to convince his people they are fighting to protect does not actually exist. I've been there on a couple of occassions and if America is the land of the free, then NZ is a country in the throws of total anarchy! B/C everywhere you go in America there is a sign telling you not to do something that you've never seen in any other place - I kept waiting for a "No Breathing" sign to pop up. Everywhere you go that's public, like a theme park there is a constant running commentary over the PA system about how "we take no responsibility for any harm, accidents, injury incurred etc etc". It's like the whole country has become this laughable self-parody where-in the desire to be a haven for freedom in the world has resulted in a land full of checks and balances on that freedom that have restricted freedom to all but quarters of the mind, of rhetoric in speeches and idealism in cheesy films. If/When America blows their opposition away they may find that the one thing they rest their objectives on and justify their actions with (freedom) doen not in fact reside within the borders of their land.
Like most tragic and horrifying things - that's pretty ironic.
Wow. Nice rant....

Haven't been there myself... but it sux how Bush is "liberating Iraq from tha evil Saddam" when what he's doing [creating a fucking war] is just as bad. I mean, it's understandible if all he wants to do is protect America from terrorisim and all but I thought he'd be able to deal with tha problem when get on his turf.
So much for his accusation that Iraq is hidding terrorists or whatever it was. Just another lame arse exuse to tha UN so he can get approval to blow tha fucking Iraqeez to "hell". As if he has tha right to say who's who in what.

I've been to the US. I agree, it's ...
I've been to the US.
I agree, it's a very oppressive culture. Whether you blame it on the government or religion or the fact that the two always seem to be combined --it's absolutely true, Americans have no idea what freedom is. I generally refrain from discussing politics or religion with people in the US because within minutes I'll be labeled unamerican and a heretic. I think the most tragic thing is that Americans have been trained to oppress each other, and they have no clue how miserable they actually are because of it.
It seems the problem with the patriotic ...
It seems the problem with the patriotic American ideal and those who follow it is that they rest on their country's origins as a place of freedom to evidence their claims. The convenience of historical accomplishments is too much for them to resist - in other words, challenge.
I would imagine those who don't care too much for patriotism just go about their business, ignoring the flag-waving and nationalist rhetoric. But they aren't the ones making the noise, the nutty ones are. And that's why I think we get quite a skewed perspective of America.
//if America is the land of the free, then NZ is a country in the throws of total anarchy! B/C everywhere you go in America there is a sign telling you not to do something that you've never seen in any other place
Over-zealous liability laws, etc etc. Also, America can very well call themselves a land of the free when they persist in comparing themselves to Islamic countries with semi-developed societal freedom. If they ever bothered to care about other Western countries they may, possibly realise America is not 'all that'. Heh, I was watching Nickelodeon the other day, a game show was on which pits two Yank families against each other. Question: The states of Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland are found in which country? American family answer: England. HAHAHAHA - the sad thing is I said "duuhh, Englund?" before they had answered.
Looks like the Americans fulfil our negative prophecies. Nah, they're not all that bad.
//I would imagine those who don't care ...
//I would imagine those who don't care too much for patriotism just go about their business, ignoring the flag-waving and nationalist rhetoric.
It used to be that easy. They'd go their way, I'd go mine. Then, about a year and a half ago, something happened which sent the entire country into a complete frenzy of patriotism. The government siezed on this as an opportunity to make it very clear that "If you're not for America, you're against it." It wasn't enough, suddenly, to be mildly satisfied with where you live. To be Truly Patriotic, to be a Real American, to not be in danger of being considered Un-American (ie, Anti-American), you had to DISPLAY your patriotism. People seemed almost frantic to display just how American they were.
My tattoo artist told me he's been doing ten times more patriotic tattoos in the past year than ever before, and he did his apprenticeship in Texas of all places.
My sister called me a while ago and said, "I never owned a flag before, now I suddenly have seven. People just keep giving them to me. What am I supposed to do with them all?"
It's become exceedingly difficult to 'just go about my business' while living in this country. I feel that I have to stifle myself, watch what I say. Unless things turn in the opposite direction very quickly, things may become dangerous for me. If the current political regime tightens its stranglehold on the nation, I WILL end up in jail. I've resigned myself to it. I'm generally a 'keep yer head down and mouth shut' sort of person, but there will come a breaking point, and I think it's coming soon. It frightens me.
I will be persecuted for what I believe, and my only damn crime is thinking it's silly to be proud of being born in a certain country. I'd hate to be a martyr to the ridiculousness of patriotism, but there is a growing number of US citizens who think it's inevitable.

Hi Guys, I stopped reading catcher ryes ...
Hi Guys, I stopped reading catcher ryes comments after the "White Boy Rap" comment, the way I see it, if he had've replaced the word "White" with "Black" and "Rap" with any other genre the PC police would have jumped on him. I figured that that was grounds to ignore him. So it seems that mostly you guys like the track? I know I do. There is more to it as well, but I guess we'll have to wait for the album. That "Googly Eyed Cunt" (could apply to either of us really aye?) (I'm a white rapper too!!!) has managed to say the things I was thinking about america, I believe thats kinda the name of the game. Unless you prefer "Easy as the breeze in springtime" or "Make a wish and the booty will come true". I dunno, is it really Hip-Hop? To me "Hip Hop" seems really fucken stupid and market driven. Perhaps we need a new Genre. Is EMINEM "Hip Hop"? Seems less likely every day. (ANOTHER Googly eyed white rapper cunt) YAY! ANYWAY, Lucy is at Liegh tonight, at the sawmill, come to the show. Oh yeh, the AMERICAN debate, ok, here's what I think... Here is a country that prides it'self on "The Law", here is a country that is on a mission to save the good people of the world by eliminating a "Hitler-esque" threat in the east. Here is a country that went to the trouble of producing evidence last night to a "Court" to gain the right to bomb Iraq, again. Here is a country who's legal system is now available as a gameshow. Judge Judy is now the second highest rating TV show in america, behind Oprah. Perhaps Judy should determine the outcome of the Iraq crisis live to air. That would be cool, George vs Sadam, ha ha ha.

I love hearing you kiwis rag on ...
I love hearing you kiwis rag on Americans for this and that. I'm an American (Yank as you refer to us as) and I lived in NZ for two years. It was as if I never left the States. How kiwis got this reputation for being "down-to-earth" and "free lovin" I'll never understand. Your view of the world is so narrow. There's more to you than buzzy bees and vegemite, if you just take the time to look around. So from me, ot all of you "haters", just keep eating those pies and shagging those sheep because no one here is hearing your bitchin. Mate.

// Saying you're an american is about as specific as saying you're an earthling.
I think some Americans think the two go hand-in-hand. Everyone outside the great nation is considered an alien, after all.
painnking does have a point with the 'no one here is hearing your bitchin' though -- I doubt any NZ opinion is making even a blip on the US consciousness. All the better for us, 'cos we can rant on happily with no fear of retaliation.
Related, sort of...
I'm just reading Bill Bryson's "Down Under", and he starts off the book with an analysis of media coverage of Australia in the New York Times. In 1998 there were 20 mentions of events and news from that nation in the entire year. He compared that to some other crazy stats: 24 mentions for bowling ball accidents, 30 mentions for butterfly migration stories, that sort of thing. New Zealand would rank even lower, methinks.
// How kiwis got this reputation for ...
// How kiwis got this reputation for being "down-to-earth" and "free lovin" I'll never understand
down to earth is probably fair enough (depending on your definition. I reckon most kiwis want to buy a house, raise their kids well, aren't too fussed by fame and material consumption: I reckong that's pretty down to earth).
but 'free lovin'? since when did kiwis have a reputation for 'free lovin'?
you didn't settle down in Gore, did you painnking?
