Ok you probably already know this but...
Moby has not only sold every single he has ever made to advertising...
But every track of his albums...
AND to put the icing on the cake has not only sold every song on an album he has ever made, but also every B-side he has ever have.
That;s eveything he's ever made. What an advertising slut!

He talked about this, on an interview ...
He talked about this, on an interview broadcast last week with Mike Hosking on Sunday. As far as he's concerned, he owes his entire music existence to advertisers - he'd been stooging along making music that no-one had ever heard of, making no money. He believed that he was making music worthy of being listened to by a wider audience, so started working out product placements for his music. On the back of that, when Play came out, sales went through the roof - justifying his faith in his music.
I don't know if this is enough to convince me of wankerdom: millions of people presumably like listening to Moby's music, so arguably have had their lives improved as a result. They have only come to know of it because of his willingness to market it, so that step has improved the lives of millions. From that perspective, he's a saint.

i can understand him doing that in the early days... but still now? he's loaded. I dont have a problem with musos doing that once in a while but...c'mon...

Just to add a little extra to this....
is there actually anything wrong with selling your music to such extremes... if you're not changing your music in order for it to sell, then why not make as much money off it as you can, God knows you would normally put a lot of your time and energy into creating it.
I can see an arguement to writing your music just so you can sell it... but then is this even that bad? personally i would have to make sure i like or enjoy playing what i'm writting... but as a general rule, you can sing or play an instrument... then why not use it to make money?
I think it says more about the ...
I think it says more about the advertisers who buy his music, than it does about him.
I mean, think about it. If there's a bunch of ads for different companies all using similar music, it's going to confuse things - people aren't going to remember product or brand names correctly.
Meanwhile, Moby's laughing all the way to the bank. He's got money so he can spend his days doing what he loves and not worry about the future.
(I'm still not a Moby fan, though.)

About laughing all the way to the bank, ...
About laughing all the way to the bank, I wonder if he's come to the end of his day in the sun. I see that his gigs in Wellington and Christchurch have been cancelled and his Auckland one downscaled for "personal reasons": is this code for "no-one bought my tickets"?

I guess that makes any person who writes jingles for a living a wanker too.

But the thing is he doesn't make jingles for a living... he rates himself as a credible artist, not an advertiser. I don't have a problem with advertisers. LIKE I SAID i don't even hate an artist who sells a few tracks to advertising, or starts out that way. But every track you've ever made? c'mon..
I remember him saying something like ...
I remember him saying something like how funny it was that a car company pays him for a song, and he donates a stack of that money to ecological organisations.

Exactly. Have you heard the originals to those gospel songs? They sound better without his fucking beats behiend them. And my friend showed me an interview where he attempted to cover up that his new album is shit and that is why no one buys it by saying
"My fans are of a very high intellect and instead download my songs rather than buy them"
...shutup! just admit that the album isn't as popular as the last one.
yeah.. I think technically he isn't ...
yeah.. I think technically he isn't actually that good.. he may know how to put a song together but basically he's just using his source material verbatim.. I mean not using his sampler to _write_ a song, but merely put one together.. and I am -damn- sick of hearing that enveloped string thing on every goddamn bank ad and what have you.. (if you guys know what I mean)..

hey! leave moby alone, i think he's a fucken wicked musicican. so what if he's given all of his songs to advertisers. without them, he wouldn't have become this well-known and people wouldn't have been able to know how talented he is.

Ok guys lets all calm down now!!!
i dont like eminem, but then again i dont like moby(although my neighbour looks like him???),so i think that it is pretty freekin dumb to sell all your god damn songs to advertising, but its a pretty smart way of getting big in the industry.i think hes doin it a bit over the top.(u know.....just a tad)maybe he should just let a song go without the advertisers?hmmm???
