Ha. As one who never got over the merge in the first place this makes me smile. *Bitter and twisted* James Coleman in the mornings was the BEST way to start your day. I was so gutted when Jon and Nathan took over, a symbol of the death of all that was good and holy about the Channel Z of old, and pissed all over a station that mattered.
I listened to channel z once a day around the same time for about 20 mins, just to here "word in the bucket" but now jon and nato gone, stuff z completely.

yeah, james is cool. however he can be a lil extreme sometimes. i would've tried to name everyone at z but either way i'd probably miss out atleast one person. can't forget cam, nathan (the newish guy) and jane.

The frequency switcharoo is a little strange. Why doesn't The Edge just start broadcasting on 89.8 and Channel Z stay on 94.2?
The only reason I can think of is that it means that people driving Japanese imports an original radio will now be able to get Channel Z as well as Mai FM and Newstalk ZB.
Mai FM use this as a selling point on their web site, and indeed at one point last year Mai jumped ahead of ZB as the most popular radio station in Auckland. So I maybe Channel Z are hoping that they'll be able to score those listeners who don't care for talkback or hip-hop.
maybe they are trying to put more emphasis on The Edge and get some of the Z's more pop listeners listening to The Edge instead (they are owned by the same company).
also it has now been revealed that the Herald was wrong 89.8 couldn't have anything anyway cos it's only 0.4 away from The Rock 90.2
93.8FM is only one slot down from where Z is now anyway so not too different when tuning wit a analogue tuner, it still the next station up from Solid Gold, lol
I really enjoyed Jon and Nathan in the morning, they always made me laugh - it was heaps of fun listening to it. I like Coleman, but I think his show more suits the afternoons. No comment on Jackie Brown or Bomber and Clarke. Apparently, according to a press release Jon and Nathan "LEFT TO PURSUE THEIR T.V CAREERS" which is bullshit. They were dropped. I know that Jon is really bummed out about it. Stink
