The guitar sound (particularly when they lean on the whammy bar near the start) on the Smashing Pumpkin's track 'Hummer' (off Siamese Dream) is amongst the best guitar noises ever put to CD. In fact, most of that album has stonkingly good guitar sounds.
And there's always the Beatles ... the leady twiddles that George plays in 'She Said She Said' are magic.
I also really like Kurt's Guitaring in In Bloom. Thats really good.
And The General Electric (the song) had some huge riffs...also Comfort me and Semi-Normal....
umm... Oh Yeah!! And Marcus Sounds awesome in So us Is This...and The Queens Of The Stoneage riffs are always good, especially in The Sky is Fallin' and Hangin' Tree

I was just about to say that when i saw your comment :p But I'd have to go with "Up In Hell" from Desert sessions Vol7&8. The rifs at begining are really awesome
Josh Homme does has a distinctive tone. He uses very rare Ovation solidbodys (made in one year in the 80's) of which there are only about 250 worldwide. They sound like a fucking horn!
I love it (it scares me that I know this much, though)
big muff smig muff. People usually only like big muff if they haven't tryed a hotcake.
Then after they get bored of only a hotcake they call up mr crowther and go "paul can you design me the ultimate distortion pedal called "the wilsonic""
Duane the fuckn man Denison, the slide guitar sounds on the Liar and Goat albums, Chris Whitley's electric album "Din Of Ecstacy", all good soulful painful nasty steely slashy slide guitar sounds...
