I've been in the habit of buying CDs from the bargain bins of some of the albums (which were usually dubbed tapes) that I used to be deeply attached to as a teenager.
Sometimes (the Stone Roses, Janes Addiction) the albums sound as good, or even better, as they did back then. But I'm sometimes amazed at how I used to be *so* into some of the music that I was. Some of it was, well, pretty naff really. What was I thinking? Was I just a dumb hormone-ridden emotionally troubled teen with equally turbulent tastes? Don't answer that...
eg. the Wonderstuff - Eight Legged Groove Machine.
Good fun pop album, but I used to think these guys were going to be the future of all rock'n'roll.
Kate Bush - The Kick Inside
Again, pretty great album, but I would have "crawled 50 miles over broken glass to lick her shoes clean" [something I recall thinking at the time] so besotted was I. Maybe it wasn't the music...
Jesus Jones - Liquidizer
This one really hasn't stood the test of time at all, but, again, at the time I thought for sure they were the harbingers of some great new rock-electronic crossover. As for the EMF album, yes, unbelievable.
hmmm, others will occur to me, I'm sure...

Mine is All About Eve - funnily enough, I was talking about this just this morning with a mate. I thought they were the greatest band of all time and have to admit I was pretty infatuated with everything to do with Julianne Regan, even made it my mission when in London to meet her (stalkery, I know). Then, several years later, I put their CD on to play and was impressed by how completely ho-hum their sound was.

I have this. I reckon it's a decent debut - Wuthering Heights is a pop classic, James And The Cold Gun and Saxophone Song are fun, The Man With The Child In His Eyes and the title track are haunting pieces - but I agree it's not her best work.
At the moment I'm loving her 1985 album Hounds Of Love - it's a work of staggering genius.

I loved this album when I was younger and thought it was the bomb yo, till a few months ago when I put it on and it sounds so cheesy. oh my.

"Superunknown" - Soundgarden: This album was so hyped to be Soundgardens best but it just didn't appeal to it, wasn't quite my taste. Nothing on this album deserved more than one listen. I still like "Fell on Black Days" but the rest of the album just wasn't my cup of tea.

"SUPERUNKNOWN" - the fact that that fell on black days is the only song you deem worthy leads me to believe that you missed the point entirely....I'm not saying that to be harsh, but thae album is one sludging machine of intricate odd time, fat grooves and full of feeling.... widely recognised by musicians as their finest... oh well

Bass was a huge animal screaming in the forest
and gats were heaven beng destroyed into a new heaven,
then i went into a recording studio.
but i still approach music with the same idea.

The Mission and Sisters of Mercy aren't quite the cool, funky sounds I remember...
Still like "This Corrosion" though. The SoM-haters' favourite SoM song.

Blink 182 "Dude Ranch" - infact it wasn't even as good since the day i bought it. Mostly fillers. I wa dissapointed in the quality of "Dammit" it was weak, a beat was missed out and it just wasn't as good as the radio version. I thought the mp3 of it was better.

I've recently been listening to the Stray Cats again for the first time in probably 15 years. Fucking Hell, those guys rock. My friends have a good laugh at me about this one, probably because they're the ones who think the Stray Cats are "not as good as you remembered"; but Fuck, did music ever get better than "Stray Cat Strut"? I don't think so.
Ooh, maybe this should go in the Confessions forum.

I agree velocity,
I was just recently looking a Stray Cats CD on sales in the bargain bin for $10 at a local music store, but too many people were looking at me.....
I'll sneak back later and wear a wig.

I buy mine with pride... over the internet.
But seriously, if the internet did not exist and I actually had to leave my house to buy things I would march up to the register and plonk down a big stack of the Stray Cats without caring who was looking. Say what you want, but that Brian Setzer can play guitar.

Those guys had style, I'm going to bring pompadors back.
