Albums You're Digging At The Moment

KATE BUSH - Hounds Of Love (theatrical, Celtic-flavoured pop - I'm loving this)
JONI MITCHELL - Blue (this stuff is poetry)
WILCO - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot + 6-track bonus EP (the EP is way cool -seek it out)
GOLDENHORSE - Riverhead (fun and eclectic - an impressive debut)
THE FLAMING LIPS - The Soft Bulletin (prog-pop at its best)

Forums: The Bar,

well at the moment

remasters- Led Zep

see my profile.

// THE FLAMING LIPS - The Soft Bulletin

I find I need to be in the right mood to enjoy that album but it is tops indeed.

Yoshimi... is good too - I can't decide if it's better than the Soft Bulletin, but it's definiely more accessible and less dependant on the mood you're in.

Albums I'm digging at the moment:
Fugazi - The Argument
Lambchop - Tools in the Dryer
Lambchop - How I Quit Smoking
Uncle Tupelo - Anodyne
Wilco & Billy Bragg - Mermaid Avenue
Grandpaboy - Mono

// Yoshimi... is good too

Yeah everyone keeps telling me but I had to buy other great albums I am enjoying like Foos, QOTSA, Pacifier, System of a Down, Jurassic Five, Handsome Boy Modeling School and Sparta.
Clouds Taste Metallic is a nice quirky album too.

// Fugazi - The Argument

Damnit I'm supposed to be borrowing that, have to remember to get it.

I managed to get the Flaming Lips collection (before yoshimi was released unfortunetly) for only $20. whoo hoo! Some fantastic stuff...

Clouds Taste Metallic is another great Flaming Lips CD - possibly my favourite. It has a similarly "big" sound as The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi, but without the orchestration and electronics - think Brian Wilson meets Led Zep meets Sesame Street. Also, it features guitarist Ronald Jones, whose wizardry with the instrument helps define the sound of the album - I wonder in what direction the Lips would've gone if he hadn't left?

Also, how many of you were as surprised as I am that the Lips' song "Summertime" (from Yoshimi) is the new TV One season jingle?

revisiting "New Forms" - Roni Size, perfect for web design.

Sparta> Wiretap Scars
just got round to buying it today! im so loving it :)

I got Sparta's 'Austere' EP for 47 cents!! How stoked am I!! It's such a wicked EP!!

I paid $10 for mine... and I thought I got a bargain.

Justin Timberlake - Justified (Shut up, shut up, shut up, ok? There is always room for good pop.)
Deftones - White Pony (Why didn't I get this when it first came out? Why'd it take me so long?)
St Lucy - Loyal? - (Really good, nice to listen to on a summer's day.)

// There is always room for good pop.

fuck yes. mandy moore - "in my pocket" among others!

Paul Weller "days of speed"

sniff sniff, slash slash

Of course, I cut out all the NZ albums I'm digging at the moment, because you all know all about them. So here are some Americans doing interesting things:

Joseph Arthur - "Redemption's Son"

An interesting twist on pop music. It gives you something to chew on. He's a very inspired young man.

The Legendary Marvin Pontiac - "Greatest Hits"

John Lurie masquerading as a crazed African immigrant blues musician. Really really funny, but ass-shaking as well.

Barry Adamson - "As Above So Below"

Mr. Adamson was the only American Bad Seed (as in Nick Cave and the...), and now he does some very interesting (mostly electronic) solo stuff. Faux movie soundtracks, most of them.

Ike Reilly - "Salesmen and Racists"

Really great pop/rock. He does many variations on the 'drinking song' theme.

Cheers Velocity for the Legendary Marvin Pontiac mention - after looking around the net, I'm pretty sure this'll be my kind of thing.

Good luck finding it. Strange and Beautiful Music doesn't sell over the net anymore, and I don't think you can get it anywhere else. I'd burn you a copy... but I think John Jurie is a musician worth supporting if you can find it.

Amazon reckon they have it in stock, so I'll put them to the test.

Let me know if they actually come through. I had a couple of friends try to buy it from Amazon; they both waited six weeks before Amazon told them it was out of stock.

Hmmm! Has to be!

The Datsuns - The Datsuns
Lemon Jelly - Lost Horizons
Royksopp - Melody AM
The Who - Who's Next
Buffalo Springfield - Buffalo Springfield
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions
AC/DC - Let There Be Rock!

Royksopp are pretty damn cool.

I really like the remix of Royksopp's 'Remind Me'.
Is that on the album?

Jack Johnson - Brushfire Fairytales
Sparta - Wiretap Scars
Te Tigre - Feminist Sweepstakes
Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head
Sleater-Kinney - One Beat
Sleater-Kinney - All Hands On The Bad One
Jurassic 5 - Quality Control
Spearhead - Home
Refused - The Shape Of Punk To Come

Shit... no Kiwi stuff... what the hell am I doing?

Mestar - Porcupine
The K1500 Project - Check out MP3.com
etc.

Its not a crime, you know!

Ian Drury, Paul Weller, John Lennon floating my boat rather nicely at the moment.

Shit...... no women's stuff.. what wrong with me?

Sleater-Kinney ROCK!!! One Beat is a fuckin awesome album....i want All hands on the bad one!

:) :) :)

yay sleater kinney, i want one of their albums, any dammit, i only have mp3s :/

Dying Fetus - Killing On Adrenaline
Murderdolls - Beyond The Valley Of The Murderdolls
Opeth - Blackwater Park

blindspott- blindspott even though it came out last october im still lovin it!
Foo fighters- one by one i only just bought it last week im enjoying it!
deftones- white pony its been out for sooo long but ive only just got it and i like it!
Murderdolls- beyond the valley of the murderdolls very funny! good album

Placebo - "Without I'm Nothing": The best album ever, has alot of emotions on it. Been spinning it rather frequently lately. Its helping me through a hard time im having. But its great for every occasion. Unlike SUM 41's album that doesn't live up to its name of all killah's no fillers the title should be rewarded to this album. This album changed my life(10/10)

Pacifier - "Pacifier": The only cd that can rival Placebo's "Without you i'm nothing", and comes first equal. Again this album is very dynamic, and apparently moving. This album is so fucking good that i only let one of my closest friends borrow it. No filler tracks as well. (10/10)

Shihad - "Killjoÿ": Great cd to, this is where the Shihad sound started. Not Churn but Killjoy. Love the middle of the album (Envy, Debs Night Out, Bitter). I found Jon Toogood and the boys comforting to listen to last nite and every other time. (9/10)

A Perfect Circle - "Mer De Noms": Definitely one of the best of 2000 when it came out. "Orestes" is definitely one of many highlight tracks along with 3 Libras and Brena. I love the distress ridden emotion of Orestes and The Hollow especially. (10/10)

silverchair - "Frogstomp": An old classic which i have been playing alot lately too. Favourite would have to be "Shade" and "Suicidal Dream". Also just learned how to play most of Shade on guitar. (7/10)

Tadpole - "The Medusa": I know alot of people will cringe at me liking Tadpole but hey cringe all you want, its better than nu-metal. This album is so much better than its predessor, and contains more emotion and dynamics. "Condition Chronic" is definitely one of my signature songs. No filers provided either. (10/10)

Shihad - "The General Electric": Great experimentation with digital effects and sonics. At the moment "The Metal Song" is really doing it for me, its just the lyric "I'll be what you want to be""prtty much sums up the expectations and pressures im getting from my family after failing most of bursary. No filers either.(10/10)

Offspring - "Smash": FOr sentimental reasons this is my favourite album of theirs. I've been having nitemares some nites this week and "Gotta Get Away" just describes it. And "Smash" is another one of my signature songs. No filers either.(10/10)

Did anyone here that the Offspring covered the Damned's Smash it up. Urgh, i want to find them and kill.

I haven't heard it but most of the Offspring's covers are 50/50 good and bad. Its not worth getting worked up about though.

// silverchair - "Frogstomp":

Yeah, man. Haven't listened in ages - that was the very first CD I ever owned. Shade is great.

Yeah, A Perfect Circle rule.
When i bought their album none of my friends had even heard of them!
I love 'The Hollow', 'Magdelena' and '3 libras' best.

When i got it for free from Channel Z all my "friends" said they sucked and had bad taste. I think i got the album before it made it into stores.

Most of these arent that new but i still love them all the same...

One by One -Foo Fighters
Colour and the shape - Foo Fighters ( Yes old but i still listen to it heaps!) :)
Blindspott
A Perfect Circle - Mer de noms
Pacifier - Pacifier
Kitsch - Kitsch (has anyone else actually got this album????)
The Music
Box Car Racer

... oh the list goes on but they wud have to be my most listend to. :)

ARGGG!!!! wtf am i doing...

Kitch - Love songs for romantic punks!!!!!!!! ^^^^^^^

Fuk im not with it! :S

Heres some more.....

silverchair: "Neon Ballroom"
An album that i can relate to personally. And its helping me get through this tragic month. Do you feel the same would have to be the peak point of the album, the lyric in it "Now i have managed to be the one, to be the victim without the gun" is telling it straight about the state it is for me to get on with my family in my house, sometimes we aren't even sure we want to be in the same room. And Miss You Love is another song that means alot to me. Great from beginning to end. (9/10)

hmmm maybe i've been going to in depth to these albums. sorry.

just a lil :P

no achilles dude, i think it's cool that your posting why you like the albums so much. It gives an interesting read. :) keep it up with the others you decide to post :)!

çheers Flanflax, glad someone understands i want to share with you all why i confide in these albums. Probably next i'll do a write up on System of a Down "Toxicity" and Placebo "Black Market Music" stay tuned......

both excellent cd's, can't wait!

k now uve made me feel bad :( and im sure i deserve it!

Im sorry Achilles Heel! i spose it is interesting to hear why u like them so much!

its cool Moosus. i just thought everyone needed an explanation of why they are keeping me sane.

Im really into:

Rage against the Machine - the battle of los angeles
System of a Down (self-titled)
Ash - Intergalactic Sonic 7"s (basically a greatest hits)
The Lord Of The Rings - The Fellowship Of The Ring (the only Soundtrack i own or would want to own, except maybe the two towers...i have abit of an obsession with LOTRs but this music is REALLY emotional....and good)
Nirvana (i really love all the tracks especially 'In Bloom' and 'All Apologies', Classic).
Queens Of The Stoneage - Songs For the Deaf ( this is a really good album with no weak tracks on it...i was looking to buy 'Rated R' but i cant seem to find it anywhere....any help?)

you should get Qotsa self-titled as well

I am going through my at the drive-in phase...
Supergroove - Traction
QOTSA - Rated R
At the Drive-In - In Casino Out, Vaya and Relationship of Command.
Sparta - Wiretap Scars
The Mars Volta - Tremulant
Mudvayne - The end of all things to come (the best bassist i've ever heard...maybe)

At The Drive In are a great band, i've been thinking of checking more of their stuff out, is Relationship of Command any good??

//Mudvayne - The end of all things to come (the best bassist i've ever heard...maybe)

ive never heard a bassist near his ability
