Can the old Bodega be revived?

I hear that the stupid 'By-pass' (read motorway) plan has been put on the backburner for at least another two years. This leads me to ponder whether there is still a building where the old Bodega once resided. I know that the bar was ceremoniously moved to the new site, but any chance of reopening some form of Bodega in the old spot?

Maybe you could call the old one "Bodega Classic". ;)

Forums: The Bar,

I REALLY regret not being able to play the old Bodega. If it could be opened, I would be a happy chap. Problem is that I think Transit owns the building and Fraser was leasing it off them... and can you see them doing something nice like opening it again?

NO! They are scum.

that's not such a bad idea because there's a need for both. bodega have been getting some biggish gigs. michael franti, seafood (i think) and now lambchop. it's a good venue: nice sound, nice segregation between front and back and a good size.

the old building is still there, but the bypass saga will probably continue like this for another year or two so the bodega folks probably won't consider it.

At the time of the move, Fraser had said he was fed up with all the dilly-dallying over the building and bypass, even if there was a reprieve, he was out of there. Maybe there is room for some new enterprising person to start something - since Transit are on hold for a couple of years, they might like a little extra money: they obviously cannot expect a lot. Is the Bodega cafe still operating?

Yep -- the cafe is still going. But someone's made the bar their home, so I hear -- they might have something to say about the muso's wanting to move back in.

the new bodega is not skanky enough for me ... too polly pressy pants

"polly pressy pants"?

I've heard a story that the people who are flatting above Cafe Bodega took over the management of the cafe because if the cafe wasn't going they were going to be evicted.

Not sure if that is fact or fallacy.

a bit like a starbucks version of the old one... good staff but..

saw you at whopper chopper... muuhuha

missed ya. Only lost the wife this year...

On a similar, but different (??) vein...
I'm impressed that the folks down at Indigo have managed to score the Breeders gig.

Well done Stephen and co!

Definitely a far cry from the Stax (Rockys, Tycodys, etc, etc) days.
