hey Astrogirl, have a shot at "Blindspott". They're an Auckland Band who have a totally new sound. These guy's know how to get you going! They are definitely a class act that are going places! They have a single out "Nil by Mouth". It includes a video clip so why not give them a shot. THEY ARE GOOOOOODDD!!!!
hey toady i agree that blindspott are fucken awesome, but i dont reckon that they have a totally original sound.... maybe for a nz band but remember as time goes on it gets harder and harder to create something 'original', and blindspott arent doing anything amazingly different.

look toady... i agree about how new zealand has a 'tall poppy syndrome' but face it, and this is coming from a HUGE fan, bindspott are NOT original. they have their own unique sound, true. they are an amazingly professional sounding band, true. but they are of a similar style to many bands. their guitaring has elements of deftones (i dont agree about 28 days really, and papa roach sound quite a lot different), the vocals remind me of linkin park, all these bands i like and i think have obviously had an influence on blindspott which ends up being a good thing because when all those influences are meshed together, it becomes blindspott, a fucking awesome band. i think you need to understand the difference between a bands distinctive style and being original.

As soon as you claim they are original YOU start the comparisions, the pigeon-holing. Yes there are original bands out there but I'd consider Good Shirt or Supergroove more original than Blindspott.
now wait a sec. it'd be quite hard to find a vocalist that didnt either sing, scream or rap. the only thing youve left out is whispering, and i dont think you hear much of that (although im not saying it would be bad). saying that 'come on they all have turntables, guitars' is a bit narrow minded, if ya think about it. just because bands use certain instruments, it doesnt mean they cant transcend the predefined boundaries for their instruments. there are millions of sounds that can come from simple guitars, but we havent thought of them yet. also i think using a dj broadens the bands musical horizons, and by no means do dj's make bands similar unless they are crap at them and have no imagination. there are bands that sound totally different from each other yet use the same instruments, its the sound not the tools that makes people original.
Hey jimi, i hear wot ur saying with the "distinctive" versus "orginal" thing...maybe distinctive is the more appropriate word...now the deftones comparison.I like it!!! the only one whos given me a band who i agree with.And i gotta just say that deftones absolutely kick ass!!!
I managed to c BLINDSPOTT play last week with tadpole and i really gotta say that if u havnt BEEN to a BLINDSPOTT gig ur missing out....They are definately one of the best live bands ive seen in a long time.To see a band with that much energy on stage blew me away.Its not very often u get the chance to see bands go apeshit..anyways thanx for the comments jimi.I still love BLINDSPOTT!!
