So I just filled in an interview for some magazine and I thought I'd post it on here to see if perhaps womans day or the listener were doing a piece on me.
The songs are all writen by me and arranged by me, any surplus sounds are performed by mindless apes that call themselves drummers and bass players. I play all the stringed instruments in the studio and a man called Jody Lloyd from "Dark Tower" engineers, produces and performs the beats and samples under the moniker "TRILLION". He does a bloody great job. St. Lucy is about singing songs of hope to people, not faceless consumer 12 year olds like some kind of fat drunk (James Reid) or Carly Binding or even the contrived fashion based drivel of Rubicon. There are normal, strange and wonderful people in NZ, people who dont fit into the model that the music biz seems intent on targeting. People with mental illnesses (Great and small) people with criminal records (Great and small) people with poor credit and shitty jobs, people with kids, people who have lost kids and people who share kids with someone they used to love, people who smoke, fat people, people who sell second hand cars and masturbate in the toilet when they get a chance, men who surf porn and women who love too much. St. Lucy is sick of the cool kids controlling what used to be the domain of the freaks. St. Lucy may or may not be just saying this to sound anti pop because perhaps I just want to get fat and rich.

Not that I take much of that too ...
Not that I take much of that too seriously, I think criticizing established New Zealand acts so early in one's intorduction is a little bit rich. Of course you're excited (with your recent success), but isn't what they are experiencing only a more pervasive example of winning over the Temple audience i.e. winning over a venue's audience, becomes winning over a city, becomes winning over the country i.e. chart success (especially albums like the feelers - both #1) is really about winning over a massive audience.
Therefore you are in a way criticising people for doing a larger and more extensive version of what you have done - bit silly really. Isn't it?
i would like to step up to the ...
i would like to step up to the podium...
eminem made his mark by dissing other wack artists. why? because there was a billion people 'just like me' who thinks like him and acts like him.
so too is there a heap load of NZers who think the artists St Lucy mentioned are crap too!
why?
cos they are mass marketed tripe brought to us by business label guys with lots of money, who think they can make lots more money out of it!
Actually, music on the radio and charts will only ever be good when the corporate industries stop thinking in profits, just like all other industries that milk the earth for all it has.
if you have been reading any of St Lucy's earlier postings, he definately holds no punches. these disses arent because he won a little competition. actually, most well balanced musicians are of the opinion that music isnt a competition...
It's the Music Industry that makes it a competition. check out NZ on Air. bands have to submit something that sounds like something else on the radio, or they get no help in the form of grants.
And thats the reason why they write that one or two songs that sounds like radio hits. cos they want the funding.
They are trying to play the game so they get paid and hit the big time! THAT IS NOT ART!
the airwaves are being taken over by the copycats. the followrers! when the airwaves should be a place for the leaders. the artists! not text book, paint by numbers hit machines! FUCK THAT!
for too long NZ has been a place where everyone has been too scared to say what they think, in fear of not getting funding, or not getting on the radio, or not getting in a magazine. FUCK THAT!
St Lucy is the first person in a spot light to actually stand up and say what everyone else thinks. He's not going to sell any less cd's because of it, why? cos he is only going to sell cd's to people who like his music. NOT to people who are conned into it - (like everthing on Mai Fm) by major labels who suck on the radio stations cocks for all it's worth - like there's no tomorrow.
thus, this is all you hear, if you choose to listen to the radio! YOU ARE BEING CONNED!
So.... I would like to take an opportunity to have a bitch:
I have made 2 albums, mostly all by myself. paid for all by myself. (quite a hard task having been on the dole for 12 years) One is called Fresh Jams. I have sold about 300 copies of Fresh Jams, The second one 'At A Lucid End' is yet to be released.
I have applied for video grant funding to NZ on Air maybe 12 times for different tracks of these albums. And just like many of you, I too have been turned down. Now what FUCKS ME OFF is that all these things being put out by majors (who have heaps of cash but are good at sucking the masters cocks) get all the money. When to me it is obvious that the people with no money need it!
Now you cant argue:
"it's because people dont like your music. it's not good enough"
That is BULLSHIT! why? because most my sales were to shops and cafes. public arenas!
I have had 3 tracks from 'at a lucid end' on compilations (sideways 2, and earwork 2 + 3) so someone must have liked them for them to be chosen. RDU in ChCh playlisted 3 tracks off Fresh Jams, Hugh spot plays my stuff, they all must like it!
So my frustration has led me to London, before i left I teamed up with a few like minded people. My intention since the beginning was to surround myself with talented artists, so if I ever got successful I could bring a whole lot of people with me. And they will come. St Lucy is one of those, so is Lindon Puffin. Get ready to pack your bags guys!

Firstly, Trillion, if you are who I ...
Firstly, Trillion, if you are who I think you are, your are not in aneutral position to comment on St Lucy.
Secondly, St Lucy doesn't say what everyone already thinks or no one would know who the feelers, Carly Binding etc are. What gives him the right to speak for everyone? How preposterous!!!!!
St Lucy, if he is serious about being in the smaller NZ music community, would be best served by repecting other musical artists. Landing support for one of them, would ironically be one of the biggest things to happen for him. It's not possible to abuse people on the 23rd floor of a building, if you live on the third, by looking down.
Stop all this you are being conned etc and accept that there are enlightened people out there - I DON'T listen to the radio b/c I have acquired tastes that must be met. Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups and it makes an ASS out of U and ME.
I always say exactly what I think - and frankly I think St Lucy's comments were very arrogant of someone so green. I was at the Temple when he won, I heard his songs and they were pretty good - he will of course get better, aswe all do, give a singer/songwriter like Carly Binding the same opportunity.
referring to post below - //St Lucy is braver than the rest of us// - actually, I thought the comments were quie the opposite. See it takes balls to not abuse something when you hate it, b/c it means respecting that which you do not relate to or understand. Would St Lucy like all the people who don't like him to start coming out of the woodwork and abuse him. He wouldn't understand why anyone would want to do this - which is precisely the point.

I guess the idea behind the name is that we are supposed to think you are Mike, or not. I guess that in that case I need to accept the idea that you may well be... so if you are, Hi. I think I'll stop posting on this forum after this one coz its sapping negative energy and I need to save all that up for tonight. I think you may have missed the point. I dont hate anyone, well except one of my exes but its really more a defensive kind of hate in protest at the way she treats my daughter as unwanted baggage. I certainly dont mind it if people have a negative opinion of me, dude you should get my stats from the wanganui computer and it will show you that people have thought ill of me before. I certainly respect many people on the 23rd floor, but there are many that I dont and I kinda think its hell entertaining to point out that the emperor has no clothes on and I can see his arse. As for the analogy of me looking down from the 3rd floor, mate, I'm not even in the same building as them, I'm about an hour and a half down the road collecting the dpb and wiping rapsons shitty arse and trying to pay for Te Arohas aikido fees by selling cds on the side. I wouldnt have it any other way. Hey if you are Mike, hey man, The scrolls were really cool, I did however think that Lucy would have done more justice to the proceedings than Karen Hunter. I guess we'll start that dance again later on this year.
See ya

what i really wanted to say is that St Lucy is braver that the rest as he says what he thinks.
To some it could be said that he is destroying his chances at making it in the NZ scene.
maybe, but who wants to make it in a bullshit scene anyway - play the game and you'll be ok.

Hi there, my name is mark, hi chunnster, I like your dad. He's nice, I guess I liked his band for a while although those two brothers seem to have drifted off into senility and boredom. (Tims wife is hot tho.... ya think they swing?) That keyboard player seems to be a good guy too. Now this "Early on in my introduction thing", I'd like to comment if I may...
I have been playing and writing for a long fucking time buddy, 3 solo independant releases, 3 releases with bands that did pretty fucking well by local standards and fuckloads of touring gigging and sucking cock. Nope, not gonna do it that way anymore, and I'm sorry if you think its rich but the things I said are what I think. The last two times I saw the "No 1" feelers james reid was so pissed that his lack of tune was fucking embarrassing, I sensed that the band felt it too. Rubicon may well be loverly chaps but they are making music for 10 year olds, I put forward my daughter as an example. I dunno if I really care. BUT, it is fun to see you get all prickly, yay. And if any of the afore mentioned rockstars wanna take it up with me I would be glad to clarify my thoughts in person... I'm not doing what I do to make it up the steps of corporate rock n roll, I do it because without it I'd be in jail or in some kind of mental institution. I love what I do, I love NZ music, but I'm not about to pretend its all nicey nice when I think that a majority of it is a crock of shite now am I? And yeh, I respect and admire people like Eminem and John Lydon and even split enz for doing things their own way. ANYWAY this has turned into rockstars son bitch fest and there are far more important things at hand. TONIGHT at Temple there are a BUNCH of loverly people playing their own songs. NONE of them are singed, yet all of them are valid, come check it out! ALSO on friday night there is a loverly lady called Penelope Swales playing at Temple, she doesnt dress like the datsuns or go out with one of the D4 but FUCK she writes good songs, apparently she has sold 10,000 albums exclusivly at live shows, food for though... ain't it?
Hi Trillion, wheres my fucking sex pistols t-shirt?

Hey, that's not fair - if we all had to make ourselves known we'd be judged by aspects that have no relevance to the subjects we're discussing.
A lot of people here are hiding something, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Thank U Heather...
Anyway, until this was raised Mark, you went by St. Lucy (and at the end of your post still did).
I like your music mate, much more than any of the bands you had a go at, but that was never the point.
It's like for you that POP is this big evil entity eating up the country, but as you are not that heavy, if/when you are picked up by adoring fans in NZ - that is exactly what your music will be calssified as (maybe alt pop/ or folk/pop). And b4 you go ape, realise that there is nothing wrong with that. Your music is not made for 10 year olds so if you sell albums it will be b/c adults bought it.... you will be POPULAR with them and therefore POP.
Fang is pop, betchadupa is pop/rock.....you picked out some pretty easy egs in the feelers etc (with James Reid so fucked on New Years etc [which is a bit disgraceful really])
I hope you kick arse, b/c singer/songwriter music (David Gray, Ben Harper) and bands that revolve around an acoustic sound (Coldplay, Travis) are my absolute favourite. Just don't get too high and mighty about it, b/c if no one was making music for 10 year olds what would they listen to? Why should a kid's illusions be shattered by songs of heartache, sex etc etc...We don't force children to watch The Sopranos, if they have a fondness for The Wiggles.
Also, although you have been songwriting etc for a while - so has every artist that suddenly appears being honing their craft for a lot longer than the public realise - in this regard you are no exception.
Take your music to the masses so that they may have quality, by all means, but don't be suprised if you pop up in the pop section........It's just cause they like ya.
Peace and, as far as I am concerned, the end of it.

Um, look ponytail, I think you miss my fucking point and maybe you should have read this whole thing before posting however let me explain. I think its fucken HILLARIOUS to cut my nose off, I do not do this to get people to listen, if you wanna hear I'm at the kings arse this sunday, if not I dont care, I do it purely for myself, its a selfish game and fuck em if they cant take a joke. I dont mind if you have never heard my songs, you dont seem to comprehend that at the end of the day I am none the worse for you not hearing the songs, I benefit from them every single day just because they are my creations and as an artist thats what I live for, YOU are the one who has missed out in this equation.
