the bassline of "Lydia" is a good one to learn.

if I played bass I wouldn't dare, out of fear and respect for the bass-god Andrew Bain.

well thats why i played it out on guitar instead lol!!

I found that playing scales and modes helped me start figuring out heaps of bass lines.

also watching your fingering hand in a mirror helps you keep you head up while playing if you want to sing.
playing in the dark helps prepare for playing on stage

postman, would you mind giving me some scale sites?(for guitar) as my band have decided to get more "techical"

is one that I have that has some old grooves.

an easy way is take c major scale that is you root major mode and the shap of that scale (intervals between notes) is Ionian mode and the shape of d scale is the dorian and so forth.

there is a start

sweet, thanks a ton for that, also anyone out there mind tell me the scale blindspott use in mind dependancy?

"Only in Dreams" by Weezer is a good song to play along to. It's about eight minutes long and the bass is simple, but there's enough variation to keep things interesting. Once you've aced that, you'll feel good.

and anything by the pixies is excellent fun for learning a few simple bass lines. I once had the good fortune to play a on the same bill as Kim Deal (when she was in the Breeders), and couldn't help but stagger up to her after their set (stagger, as I'd just drunk the Breeder's rider, which was quite substantial), and proclaim...

"Kim! Kim! I learnt how to play bass from playing along with you on Pixies records!"
Says Kim (in such a cool drawl): "I could tell -- you were shit!"

My all time fave backstage moment.

You could start by practicing writing with FULL WORDS.

Maybe Bass lesson would help

thats bass lessons i mean

and playing with others

it helps your playing more than any other lesson you will learn in a lesson

finding other bassists and playing with them learn shit from them is always good

I was in borders today and was reading some bassist magazine with Ryan Martinie (from Mudvayne) and he was talking about how a whole bunch of different techniques to make them sound cool, so i think the moral is that you are never good enough...very pessimistic but true.

you were hanging with mudvaynes bassist?!?! hes like the best in the world!

Learn slap bass. Otherwise, ask the guitarist what he wants you to play. Or even the drummer. No need for bass lessons, if you think you actually need to learn something to play bass, just get instructions of the interweb.
