Not NZM-related, but help anyway!

Hey guys,
Just got me a flash new iBook laptop, and as Ive always used windows PCs before now, dont know of any decent software I can download for music - Im all sorted with importing cds to iTunes, but I neeeeeed something for downloading songs (yes, Im a pirate! deal with it) I use kazaa on windows, but that doesnt have a mac version (that Im aware of) Does anyone know of a setup like kazaa suitable for mac?
any suggestions/warnings appriciated
cheers

Forums: The Bar,

after napster im not to sure, there should be some though, it would be insane if there arn't any, its just a matter of finding them, anyway i may have heard wrong, but isnt there some sort of software for mac, that can run windows programs?, i may have been day dreaming when i thought someone said it but yeah :)

try audiogalaxy

heres the link below

http://www.audiogalaxy.com ]

I didn't relise that site was still going, I thought it was fucked like Napster.
Plus when I downloaded it last time it put Gator on too, grrrr

They're a totally different outfit now - I don't think they're even p2p any more. You have to pay a subscription to listen to any stuff on their network; this is used to pay royalties to the artists.

audiogalaxy was dead ages ago, now you download albums off their new program or something like that. i read it and left.

i think Kazaa lite has a Mac version...but im not completely sure

KaZaA lite?
Isn't that a pirated version of KaZaA, but without the spyware??
Good idea, i reckon except now KaZaA are trying to sue them... :(

Cheers guys. Will check things out.
And thanks NZM for moving this to the Bar!

This has it all...

holy fuck balls! there's heaps of stuff there...which would you recommend (and recommend NOT to use?)

how about mp3.com

Ahem... Not that I would know about any of this sort of thing as Im a terribly well behaved boy, but...

LimeWire is a Mac gnutella client that is generally considered the best, but the gnutella network is poos, and unless you're running OSX (god bless you if you are) it will run very slowly.

Your other option is to download the Carracho or Hotline client and trawl the servers until you find one with an mp3 collection you like. Most mp3 servers have over 250 artists, and the best have over 500 artists with all albums fully ID3 tagged and whatnot.

OSX...do you really think I would run anything BUT?! haha
I am, when it comes to macs and advanced technology in general, illiterate. Feel free to explain in rubicon-fan terms what you've posted above (NOT THAT IM A RUBICON FAN!) as you seem to know what youre doing, moral or not!

just if napster was still around...

doesthat new zealand p2p filesharing thing (that dc++ thing everyones on about) work on mac's??

rubicon fan terms?

Nope, the DC++ thing doesn't, or at least didn't when I last tried it work for Macs.

I will try to attempt to explain what I wrote initially in terms a fan of rubicon would understand, but I've never met one, so I have nothing to take my lead from.

LimeWire, it like Napster. You Have OSX? LimeWire be ok.

Carracho & Hotline, they way to connect to somebody else's computer, you download from www.versiontracker.com -- this be confusing, but you might understand, the hotline file you want is named Pitbull Pro.

Maybe you should email me crustacean.geo@yahoo.com and I can answer queries you may have in a more timely fashion.

get kazaa lite. its the best thing i've found so far.

...and what do I get when I got to this "ad-free" site? 4 pop-ups, a disabled site and I have to pay?!
meh!

ok i've asked in the other message board, should get more replies there. so yeah will post as soon as i know k :)

i havn't heard of anything since the closing of napster (my cousin got annoyed ause all he used to do at IT is download songs off the old ibboks :] ). but good luck in your search. i'll have a little nosy, but it's pretty pointless as 95% of the stuff you come up with is complete horsecrap :(
