Ditch The Top 25 (suggestion)

It as cool to see the top 25 and see where we all are, but I really think it has to go. Lists like that cause competitiveness amongst people hoping to climb the ranks. I've noticed a definite increase in irrelevant posts, "LOL" or other tiny ones, double posting etc. And of course the "Here's another trying to get higher" types. (blush)

But yeah, if we wanna get rid of all that crap, Top 25 list must go.

i think the list should stay up, i just don't think people should pay as much attention to it as they have been. its not a competition, its just a statistic. post as much as you always post. if you would normally post "LOL", then post it. its not as though youre going to win anything by getting into the top 25.

If you look at who actually is in the top 25, I don't think it's that much of a problem. I don't think there's anyone in there that doesn't really deserve to be. Of all of the current top 25, I don't think I've ever said, "christ, (insert name) really posts a lot of shit. If they just shut their pie-hole once in a while, they wouldn't be in the top 25."

Then again, I don't think so much about it. It's not like it's the Nobel Prize or anything.

its not a competition but people are turning it into one...
posts like "oh my god" have just watered down the whole forum idea, of posting stuff of interest, or rambling on about something...

I think the above comments by Prozaco, Nonbred etc. saying that being in the Top 25 means that you love/live NZ music and artists is total bullshit. I come to this site at least two or three times a day and I read every single post, but I only post a comment myself when I have something relevant and thoughtful to say. Sometimes I might not post for a week but does that mean that I am any less a part of the community? NO!
I have also definitely noticed an increase in inane, pointless posts since this Top 25 came into existence. I remember a couple of weeks ago coming here and Nonbred had posted on pretty much every single thread on the site; I wouldn't have minded if he had something of merit to add but most of it was just random bollocks. Any person who posts purely to get themselves into the Top 25 is a pathetic, sad little person with no life.
Get rid of the Top 25, it turns posting into a stupid competition which is not what it should be about. If you have so much to say that you post 100 times a day, that's fine, but when it's mindless. stupid comments which you don't even think about before posting, then fuck off.

p.s. sorry for sounding so hostile, this is just something that pisses me off quite a bit.

As a member of the top 25 list, I find it embarassing to be on the list, esp when it 1st went up and my old unused logon name was on the list as well as this one, it took me more than a wee while to get over the shame of it and to post again, I am still finding that I am clicking the cancel button more than I am clicking on the Add comment button, to the point that I think I have broken the Cancel button as it doesn't work any more, any way what ever the crew do, if the list stays or goes ... please take a word of advice from one who really does know the back lash that comes from being a pain in the arse
Slow down, think before you click add comment, what have I said that adds to this topic, and count to 10 read it again and after careful consideration only then click add.......... non breed i have read most of your posts and every now and again you make a good point but as was said to me a while back....... Even though Saul does get on people's nerves a bit, he doesn't post anywhere near the amount that you do Nonbreed. You can't really accuse him of spamming, where as in the past you have definitely been guilty of that. You are getting better though and that is a good sign.

Remember quantity does not equal quality. Respect is earnt. People always reveal their true selves to you... always.

People like Stefan have posted a lot and 99.992% is a damm good read. My advice: don't create a login that posts like a ritalin freak and gets the ignore factor - plenty of them that I skip (and most people I talk to skip). You can get a lot outta these forums if you really want to... some amazing lifelong friends and opportunities have come out of this place, trust me. Everyone (except for a few trolls here and there) is always stoked with 'heartfelt communication'. The NZM folk are always stoked with newcomers with something cool to offer. Go for it, and forget about lists - they are a stat, purely for quantitative measurement.
