Mike Moore (not our politian - the US docomentary film-maker) explores the US's predisposition towards gun violence and poses an interesting answer to why.
Fecking brilliant

american politics is all just muscle-flexing and ball-grabbing. It's about being the alpha-male, which very rarely includes being nice. But don't tell anyone I said that, or the FBI (thought-police) will be on me like white on rice.

very very cool film............a think should be mandatory every american child see's this film growing up. I fuckn loved the americn history cartoon, and was amazed by the video camera columbine footage.
the film is a bit too biased, you certainly don't get an even side of the story, some of the editing, where it is funny makes pro-gun people look more stupid then they are........and the very sympathetic editing of marilyn manson makes him look like the smatest person interviewed....which he probably was.
Charlton Heston is a dick and deserves to be shot, but i didn't need to see this film to know that.
This film is a must see.....as is donnie darko, in a different way.
>>>> loved the americn history ...

hell yeah - that was brilliant - and pretty much summed everything up
>>>> makes pro-gun people look more stupid then they are
surely its not POSSIBLE to make a pro-gun person appear more stupid than they are?
*grins*
>>>>> Charlton Heston is a dick and deserves to be shot
was that intended irony? hahaha
>>>>> This film is a must see.....as is donnie darko, in a different way
Absolutely... Donnie Darko is fkkn cool too .. the website's awesome as well....

>>>> Although I did hear that Marilyn Manson is the only person in the film that actually makes sense?
Lots of people make sense in it.
Marilyn does, however, articulate himself very well.

Yes.

Donnie Darko was made well before, but it may have come out after.
But I don't really see the relevance.
It's a fucking cool film, though. I saw an interview with the writer/director (I forget his name at the mo) and he said the film took a long time to find distribution because it couldn't be classified. Is it sf? Is it a coming-of-age teen flick? Is it drama? Is it comedy? The answer: yes, it is.

I read Michael Moore's book - Stupid White Men. Although it's quite brash, he really knew his stuff. He had an astounding array facts, figures, case studies about the latest american government, their policies and actions regarding the environment, education, recycling, affirmative action, all sorts of stuff.
Totally worth the read. The fact that the book has done so well (like, incredibly well) in the US is enough to restore my faith in Americans.

Micheal Moore is actually a card carrying life member of the NRA (at least, he was before he made this) so I didn't think the film was biased in the slightest.
I would comment more but I can't think of anything that hasn't already been said...

doco's generally need to be biased to one angle. otherwise it wouldn't be intersesting...i just found it ironic how the movie was partly about america having one side of the story shoved down it's throats, yet when i came out of the move I i felt I only had only the other side of the story shoved down my throat.
the fact he is a card carrying member generally just gave him access to interviews he otherwise would of found it difficult to get. The Marilyn Manson interview seemed comical to me, it was almost if he was reading off cue cards, all glammed up yet talking seriously about world politics, like that classic Waynes World scene where alice cooper makes some real "intelligent" comment backstage.....i couldn't get that image out of my head.

okay i know this may draw flak but....
i think you guys have seen so much of mansons bullshit image to take him seriously, i know for the most part i have. but i think it would be wrong to think he doesnt understand politics and lifestyles, his early works were alot to do with stupid american bullshit.
the crazy farmer/oklahoma bomber that got away made one good point that when all these fucked up violent people truly realize whats happening in their country, hell with spew forth. maybe
who didn't take him seriously???? No ...
who didn't take him seriously???? No one here said anything of that sort.
the points i made were that he was given very sympathetic editing. and it seemed almost farsical (waynes world sketch with alice cooper) how he was glammed up and made these comments, I laughed at the absurdity of it, but I still believe that Mr Manson knows what he is talking about
Pre-Bowling, I'd seen two interviews ...
Pre-Bowling, I'd seen two interviews with MM. The first time was years ago and he came across as an arrogant, shallow wanker. The second interview, post-Columbine, he'd gotten a lot of shit and it was obvious that it had caused him to do some hard thinking about himself and his image. He still justified his work, but his arguments were balanced and well-considered. The piece in Bowling for Columbine was along exactly the same lines as the interview I'd seen. I've developed quite a bit of respect for him. As for the bullshit image, he puts on a wicked stage show.
