Since my grandmama gave me $100 for christmas (god bless grandmamas, always good for cash on the holidays) I decided to go to the used music store on the way home from grocery shopping. I spent so long in there that my ice cream got all melty.
I found it incredibly odd that, considering where I live, these were some of the items I found to purchase:
Neil Finn- Try Whistling This
Bic Runga- Beautiful Collision
Straitjacket Fits- Blow, Melt and Missing from Melt
The Clean- Getaway
Mutton Birds- Salty
The Skeptics- Amalgam
I don't know if some kiwi living in the frozen north had just emptied out their collection for rent money, or if these cd's had been stockpiling for years not getting purchased because no one knew what they were, but in any case it was my lucky day.

Nice list of kiwi music there - a bit of a stretch from Runga to the Skeptics! You never know where oour music is going to turn up - so glad that some devoted fan has left a legacy for you, to take some of the chill off (can't be colder than the winter I spent in Dearborn though).

I was quite pleased with the mix. I like to have an eclectic selection.
We've been having pansy winters for the past few years. It actually rained yesterday. Not that I'm complaining at all. The only problem is that it's been fluctuating wildly between -30 and +5 celsius, which wreaks havoc with my old war wounds. Damned barometric pressure.

www.smokecds.com, my favourite by far. Probably the best price you'll get anywhere, and if they don't have it you won't find it.

Real Groovy's quite expensive unless you buy second-hand. That said, I do shop through RG because I'm a sucker for those Real Groovy points. And I do buy most of my stuff second hand.

haha! Same! I leave it at work. It went missing for a week and I had to start a launch a reconnaisance tour around the whole office. Strangely it returned of its own accord come Monday. I keep a steely eye on it now, I can tell you...

Real Groovy isn't so bad if you're going to be buying a lot - I cashed in my first $1000 bonus recently - 15% off sale price overall makes even their normal price of $34 OK, with the free postage thrown in. Why so guilty about buying second haand, Heather - it means the music gets to go further, and no legal rights have been harmed in the transaction. I actually believe in buying second hand whenever possible - not because I'm a cheapskate, well not all the time, but its a form of recycling. If there wasn't a second hand market for stuff, less new stuff would get bought, I think - as you'd have to be more careful that you really really wanted an item before committing.

Wasn't so much ashamed about buying second hand as I am about endorsing one online music site when I only ever buy from another.
The only thing that worries me about the second hand selection at Real Groovy is when I get recent releases - at first I thought "hooray for people who buy something then decide they don't like it", but then it kinda dawned on me that it may be a case of "yah boo sucks to people who buy an album, burn it, then take it back".

Oooh, I love The Skeptics. They were actually my introduction to NZ music. A friend of mine made me some tapes which have since worn all to pieces, and so I've been collecting them all on cd. I already have Amalgam but I bought it because I can't just let it sit in the used bin. I had to give it to someone else, just spreading the love...

u know most people once they've realised they've made a mistake just keep quiet, cause they're not worried about gettin heaps of posts done...
