wildside is a joke

Why is all the news links on the front page from wildside - and rubicon - they are a pathetic joke band , does this site have some sort of affiliation with wildside?

Forums: NZ Music,

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Murray Cammick is a fucking legend.

Maybe it also has something to do with an automatic link from NZM to the Wildside site. Cammick has obviously been updating the Wildside news lately.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I've always wanted to know this. This is not a cunty comment.
Does Mr legend murray cammick like the music on his label? Like Rubicon? Or does he sign acts because they will make him money???????

Yep, he's gettin' on in years and wants an easier life - so is signing $$$ bands like Rubicon (who he probably doesn't like musically, but likes their professionalism and celebrity $ $ $$ $ $ ). In the past though, he has struggled for years and years putting out the music he wanted to put out - bands that would have had no outlet otherwise. Shihad's "Churn" or Head Like a Hole's "Flick y'self off y'self" on Flying Nun? I don't think so.

He also knows an awful lot about the biz, and has a column on the xtra site which is worth reading if you wanna keep up with what's happening on that side of things. Believe me, he has the contacts and knows his shit inside out, so can teach a lot.

No doubting what a great person he has been for NZ music. Even for music in general.
But sorta surprising the change dont you think???????

P.S email me tom

Yeh, the change is kinda surprising but who am I to question his judgement? You are aware that he founded Rip It Up as a zine back in the late 70's? He got out of that when he lost his grasp to the corporate grab for it in the 90's. Now the magazine ain't too shit hot. Rubicon ain't either.

But Cammick is a NZ Music icon.

PS: I'm up north at the moment so I'll use my hotmail address to email ya.

i dont know who he is, but it sounds like hes done alot for NZ music in general, all good if he gets some $$ to live on

//But sorta surprising the change dont you think???????
who sais hes changed?fuck if i owned a label id sign bands i dont like, say i love them for publicity and watch the $$ roll in

//fuck if i owned a label id sign bands i dont like, say i love them for publicity and watch the $$ roll in

See i wouldn't think Murray would be that shallow.

BTW this is nothing against Rubicon

gotta love charactor flaws

Murray is a great guy but I definitely think Wildside's roster of artists has slipped in the last couple of years. Rubicon seem to be their biggest band now and that is kind of depressing. I think Wildside's glory days are behind it; if they are to continue they need some new blood in the label to give them a change of fortune and direction.

shot, my thoughts exactly...

you can't discount the fact that murray has spotted some of the finest NZ talent...you don't loose that skill. he'll be back.

"i heard hitler was a nice guy, and a good artist
till he started killing the innocents,"

ive always had a niggle in my mind about how new zealands music TODAY/RIGHT NOW is the freshest and most orginal its been since about split enz era
and yet we still cling to old habits and market the shit floating on top of the pond?

not that any of this matters really, im just fucking jealous i dont have the bank accounts of rubicon, i'd at least put some effort into the song writing and videos still.................

paul reid was a great drummer before he was in rubbercon,
can someone please explain why this happens to us?
is it the fact that now we have corps "promoing" nz bands thru magazines and tv and as always radio
"wanna be like the drummer from blindspot?, use the gear he uses, buy it you morons"
and its all for profit, thats what todays bussiness is about MONEY and how to make more of it.........

still

no one really cares we all just like to express our egos and belittle all the others who dont agree with our design,

i heard some shihad person writes and reads here?

just like to say if you read this,
"when i was about 17(this is before the drinking age change)
i was very drunk in nelson, you guys were playing at this place called mollys,

i managed to sneak in and caught a song before being booted out,
all i can say is your band made alot of sense,

oh and killjoy is beautiful thank you,

hey blink where is there to play in welli? that pays enough for gas/food/accomadation?

// hey blink where is there to play in welli? that pays enough for gas/food/accomadation?

yeah...a bar called "in your dreams"

well you can all crash at my studio....it's always open to touring bands. no more then 7 people at a time though. If you support another band and you can borrow a backline you could probably not bother with bringing a car over on the ferry, saving shitloads. email me hook_us_up_bro@blink.net.nz and let me know when you want to play and shit, and i'll ask around.

//Why is all the news links on the front page from wildside - and rubicon - they are a pathetic joke band , does this site have some sort of affiliation with wildside?//

satan, its because if you notice, things are happening at wildside with rubicon therefore it means there is "news"

Wildside is a joke? mmmm... That doesn't sit well with me. Rubicon, well, whatever you're into I guess- but it's a little ignorant to tar all the Wildside bands with the same brush. Whether or not you like Rubicon, would'n't you agree that they're doing a pretty good job of marketing Rubicon? Not that I know much about marketing, or like Rubicon much either...

exactly. except for //would'n't you agree that they're doing a pretty good job of marketing Rubicon?
I think universal may have more to do with that, and if they were doing a good job i think rubicon may have sold more records.
Rubicon i think have been an important lesson for alot of people. I think releasing bruce as a single was a dodgy call. The captain and funny boy were both great catchy pop/rock/punk songs, but cracking out bruce did irrepairable damage which no amount of good PR could save. They'd peaked months before there album came out, had the album came out on the back of funny boy, i think the story would have been different. It could easily have been so different.
It's interesting how simple desicions can all but destroy bands. I'm probably wrong, but i reckon Bruce was the self destruction of Rubicon.

Yeah i remember reading somewhere that the guys didn't want to release "Bruce". As they only saw it as a throw away b-side song but their manager conned them into it. They would have been better of not releasing it at all.

I have to keep reminding myself about Rubicon's first single, "The Captain". I think that song's great. "Bruce" is just a silly novelty tune that probably won the band a few more primary school age fans, but yeah, would have convinced a lot of people that it was the talentless vanity project of that pretty boy from Shortland Street.

//Whether or not you like Rubicon, would'n't you agree that they're doing a pretty good job of marketing Rubicon

//or like Rubicon much either...

well if people who dont like them know who they are, they must have been marketed well

being a Rubicon fan, i dont actually like Bruce that much, its an annoying song. but i dont think it destroyed them.

the acustic version of bruce is wicked!
right ian?

shit.....wetting my pants bro.

i bet forums just love personal jokes. hey is footy on tomorrow?

yeah the captain was a wicked song. it has more aggression than bruce...way more!

Bar the terrible lyrics i think happy song is not bad at all.

ocphuman you can borrow all our gear.

i hate that song

its an ok song but rather overplayed

blindspot#1 you always impress me with your depth and perception

i like happy songs video, but otherwise it sounds cheap and uninspired

The Funnyboy Video was way better, the star trek thing was kinda lame.

the rockstar videos concept is kinda cool, i know some would disagree.

//the rockstar videos concept is kinda cool, i know some would disagree.

me being one of them

whatever floats your boat is fine

Personally i prefer Wildside the label to any other major label. they do have some decent acts such as Hlah, shihad and the latest signing Marvey King.

and also Slim, definitely one of CHCH's finest acts

Well HLAH no longer exist and Shihad are not signed to Wildside anymore, so all they really have is a rather good back-catalogue. What they need are some fresh new bands, not relying on the past glories of their old acts.

// What they need are some fresh new bands

how do you know he is not already working with some fuckn fresh new acts.

why, what do you know mister?
u who acts so defensive like? or am I misreading easily misreadable message?

was rubicon one of these things "up his sleeve"?? if so, he needs new sleave

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
piff pow pang biff boom kaplunk bong bing tack tack tack kapow,

Succumb to the Alien Armada!

...I reckon Rubicon are pretty good music-wise. They just seem like cunts who think they're funny (*coughs*)...

But still, that poor little tree on Space!.... where was Greenpeace or the Raelians to punish these evil-doers?

hehe the tree! the watermelon was under the tree but they didnt even smash it! i still think jon should of used his chainsaw :(

they are funny cunts :P

yeah, the chainsaw wouldve ben some funny shit.
