and on christmas day, the nirvana doco, they shot themselves
good veiwing if ever there was some...
good excuse to escape the long arm of the rallies
anyone else interested in it???
or am out a limb again, fighting vainly against the ever present anti-nirvana majority???

"1991: The year punk broke" is screening at 9.30 on Tuesday on TV4.
Despite the "Nirvana" prefix added, it's more about Sonic Youth. If I remember correctly, Sonic Youth were going on tour with Nirvana as their opening act. I think it was before "Nevermind" was released (or if it was released, they weren't as huge as they became once "Smells Like Teen Spirit Exploded"). A documentary crew tagged along and filmed the tour.
It's a bit of a slice of the alternative music scene in 1991, just as it was on the verge of becoming the next big thing.

ahhh. the year punk broke.....when andoru crashed at my place...he watched that permanently all day everyday. He has made me some pretty substantial offers for it, that and my fugazi poster.
It's a fuckn good vid. Yeah it's a sonic youth tour vid, but it's pretty much almost 40/60 Nirvana/sonic youth....as well as a bunch of other bands of that era.
I don't appreciate it perhaps as much as i should, because of some of the terrible camera work, that only wankers like me have an issue with....but if you ignore how shit it looks, it's a wonderful film.
"live, tonight, sold out" is pretty average i reckon, but worth the watch for the "smells like teen spirit" on TOTP performance and some of the amazing footage from their pre nevermind gigs.

Nirvana are amazing on it. But sonic youth is too. it is totally about sonic youth. Other than a wee bit on nirvana.
