All this talk about Fur Patrol, free tix, scoring chicks, Velocity's swimming pool etc and no mention of the Dimmer gig in Auckland tomorrow night. It is still happening isn't it? Anyone else going? Looking forward to this one so so much.

Well, according to bfm it's still on. Very tempted, although I'm obliged to make a reasonably lengthy appearance at a friend's birthday barbecue beforehand.

Don't worry Andrew, Dimmer are listed on the 'coming soon' board at Bodega. I knew Shayne wouldn't exclude his faithful followers in Wellington!

Dimmer was Dimmer - what can I say. The night started off with a lengthy hiphop set from DJ Logikal, which seemed to spark off lots of talk of the DJ Shadow gig. Not quite sure why this particular act was doing support - it didn't really set me up for the Dimmer sound, no songs called for a turntablist - maybe it was hard to find someone to fit the Dimmer sound so they went into left field? I'd have though quite a few bands would be good - maybe Gramsci, Brunettes would have been an interesting choice.
As for the gig itself, ten songs in all starting with a new one and ending with Evolution. The three or four new songs sounded much like other Dimmer songs, which is a good thing. Can't really tell you what the lyrics were - the instrumentation tended to overwhelm Shayne's vocals. Strangely, Shayne broke not one but two E strings - after leaving his spare guitar at home because he'd never broken a string while doing a Dimmer gig. Oh, and we were blessed with some wild haired chick dressed for K-Road on a warm night, "Fuck Me Gary" or some such written on her belly barging up to front centre four times - felt a bit sorry for her the last time: she'd gone out to get a flower for Gary and came back as the band was finishing: they wandered off and left her standing forlornly with her unwanted love token.
