I heard it through a friend of mine who knows some guys who are down with the Galatos goings-on. It sucks that (some) people who have only a passing interest in PJ Harvey will get to see a great show, but all the hard core fans will miss out.
There are plenty of people in the Music industry who are very very passionate about music, why do you think they chose that profession in the first place? I do hope specefic fans of her music get to see her in an intimate setting. Galatos is a pretty average venue though......

Agreed, the atmosphere of smaller gigs is fantastic, and I really like seeing less well-known bands in that context. But I love being in the middle of a psyched-up crowd at a stadium (or in a cow paddock) as well.
Ideally, I'd be at every gig at the King's Arms that becomes recognised as the defining moment for a great new band, AND I'd go to Glastonbury every year.

Nah, I went in 2000. I had to settle for a pre-Grohl QOTSA at Reading Festival 2001, although obviously I didn't realise that I was settling at the time.
Heather is So right - how can the Galatos gig compete with the BDO gig? Forget "seeing" The Foo Fighters and The Datsuns b/c at Galatos you can't anyway!! (see that is). The BDO is about freedom of choice, music and time (you can take a half hour out and just rejoin the action if and when you choose - it is an event.) Intimate venues are great - cramped rooms with no decent view are a different proposition altogether.
