Forums: The Bar,

yep, have tickets .... i got the DVD for my partner's birthday and we've been watching all of the billions of hours of billions of documentaries ever since + the commentaries, which are really really good. i knew it was great, well made, a lot of effort went into it, but you really enter into another world when you realise what the actors are actually wearing/battling with and how they did tricky things with camera/filmed the cave troll scuffle.

flabbergasted, and i'm not much of a fan, but now i'm totally hooked. looking forward to the chick-pleasing bits (Aragorn's "human or elf" triangle) and the 45 minute battle. (looking forward to the latter more, actually)

ahhhhh i can TOTALLY relate to EVERYTHING you said in that post. my dad discovered how to work dvd's on his laptop so i spent two days [minus the 10 hours i spent at work] holed up in my room watching LOTR over and over..........i have become totally obsessed now.......in fact, i'm not speaking to my parents because they got tickets to go to a special screening [the night after the premier (sp?)] in the cinelounge of readings, which is funny, coz if they had got tickets LAST week, i wouldn't have even given a fuck about going to see the second movie......

Ditto on the tickets. And I don't even have a TV (let alone a DVD player) but am planning to buy the DVD's anyway, many friends say they're cool.

i have the dvd and tickets for thursday midnight :D *brag brag*

My friends & I have all got our tickets for the first screenings. I can't wait. I didn't think I'd like the first one, but it was brilliant & made me read all the books which I also enjoyed. Can't wait to see the ents & more of gollum :-) cool.

i don't really care when i see it, i know i will... ive read the books, heaps of times and from what ive seen it will rock!!!
im looking foward to return of the king, cause that will have AWESOME battle scenes also i've always enjoyed peter jacksons style...
does anyone else think bad taste is one of the best NZ movies in quite a while???

Bad Taste was cool, but i don't know about good. i thought it dragged in places. it was kinda like the dumb zombie videos me and my friends used to make at high school ... except our budget didn't allow for vomit quite that cool ... only strawberry FM milk, and one bottle at that ...

i like Braindead quite a lot. it's very stylish, silly, clever and a lot of fun. was lucky enough to see it at the opening of the Metropolis Theatre here in Dunners. it looked gorgeous, all those reds and blues. i even liked the Frighteners quite a bit too ...

Wasn't the frighteners set in Lyttleton or something??
anyway thats an awesome film....michael J fox is so cool

One of the most disconcerting things about that movie was that it was a two-minute drive between Lyttleton and the Karori cemetery.

yes and diablo needs to go to my friggen community

i cant wait to see it 14 times :)

why 14 trix? [thanks for signing my guestbook btw......]

coz i saw the first one 14 times at the cinema :D

oh and your welcome.

god girl!!!! i feel bad now, like i've let the lotr people down or something. i've only seen it four times - once on big screen, twice on dvd, and once on the airplane on my way over to L.A...........you're like a marathon movie goer - good girl. he he.

when i get a chance i'll go check your site out.

I've had LOTR on DVD since May. Bwahaha.

YAY! I soooo can't wait for Two Towers.... 2 more days...

yea, i'm excited. but i can't say i'm looking forward to spending 45 minutes watching a battle - its like pearl harbor allll over again.

mmm... aragorn!

lol @ prozaco - omg, FINALLY - someone else that has fallen for his manly goodness........mmmmm.....if he wasnt twice my age i spose my being attracted to him wouldn't be sooooo bad........

is it a crime for me to find Aragorn handsome?

but i'll have all 4 hobbits thanks :D

bah, who cares about age.

anyway, i only find him attractive in character... same with legolas. i dont find orlando or viggo very handsome without their wigs on :P

//i dont find orlando or viggo very handsome without their wigs on :P

i agree about viggo - he looks sooo much better in the movie, so so sexy. But as for Orlando, i think he just gets better and better looking to me - wig or no wig! Plus I cant believe he was straight out of acting school! Imagine landing such a huge role for a first job! Pretty impressive.

yea, i'm with twink on this one.........orlando is just all round good looking...cept for the "hari chrisna"[sp?] hair cut he had......the whole mo-hawk with bald sides soooooo did not do anything for me....not even the british accent could blank that out.....

i loved the mohawk! other than his wig, that was the only thing he ever had going for him :P

yeah i liked the mohawk too! then again im a sucker for an accent... that made him all that much more appealing.

i just saw the movie and.... MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER DIES!! *sob*

(i don't think thats a spoiler, since no one knows who my fav character is.)

Damn you! i really want to know who dies now!! And i cant go to see it for ages... if i guess if i wasnt so lazy id read the book...

Seen it now, and - he's really your favourite character?? Sure, love him too, but what about Karl Urban? Or Orlando?? "You're late. You look terrible..."

i'll stick with my favourite character :P
orlando is cute, but not very elven looking. his features are too short and his face too flat for an elf.

Hmmmm....well, I reckon there's a certain Guy in the movie who's just a wee bit on the ...tubby... side.

ooooo subtle.

tubby?.... excuse me, i have pictures of this so called "tubby Guy" floating all over my desktop and lemme tell you, you are wrong. it must be an optical illusion caused by the angle of the light hitting his costume! :P

Granted, for some reason it just seemed to be the front-on shots his chin somehow sorta dissolves into his neck. In profile he looked really good.

hmmm... yes you have a point.

at least his face isn't flat *prod*

Well, someone must think Orlando makes a very good elf. Otherwise they would've cast some other Guy as Legolas, wouldn't they.

I Saw LOTR2 Last Night!

I loved it personally, the fight scene is fine, it's not constant even as it switches between several simultaneous plot lines (well, they're all fighting, but at least different fighting)

Prozaco, I can't think of a single important character dying.....? wha? Please remind me in a non-spoiler type way if possible.

Didn't like how Gimli was used as comic releif. He's basically the stupid one that says funny stupid stuff all the time.

Can't believe they put Legolas on a skateboard :-| (briefly I'll admit, but pathetic)

Gollum/Smeagol was slightly disappointing to me.

Ents were better than what I'd seen on making-of-LOTR shows.

where does legolas ride a skateboard?

In the Helm's Deep fight, theres that staircase going up the wall & he rides down it on a piece of wood, just like a skateboard. Could have been worse, he coulda done tricks or kept riding through the orcs, killing them as he went. My friend & I just looked at each other in...sorta disgust & disbelief.

i think the second lotr was alot cheesier than the first. they added the comic relief character (gimli), threw in some cheeeeeesy lines (frodo and sam anyone?), and seeing leggy slide down the stairs on that piece of metal (i think it was a piece of armour) was so gay i had to roll my eyes.

// I can't think of a single important character dying.....?

i never said he was important, i just said he was my favourite :)
he died in the big fight scene... uhh... he has pretty hair? *tries not to give away much*

i loved the ents, they were awesome!

Yeah, I figured who you could have been talking about as soon as I posted.

//seeing leggy slide down the stairs on that piece of metal (i think it was a piece of armour) was so gay i had to roll my eyes.
Thats the skateboard thing! Argh, I agree with the roll eyes thing, it was disgraceful.

The Gimli lines were sorta funny, I think it's lame that they turned him into the dopey comic relief character though, when the book is meant to be serious.

Woah!! one of those movies that I have to sit quietly through the credits and completely ignore my friends for at least half an hour afterwards, just to come down.

//Didn't like how Gimli was used as comic releif. He's basically the stupid one that says funny stupid stuff all the time.
Actually, I'm quite sure just about everything he said and did was in the books. I thought he was pretty good, although the cross-eyed thing he's got going on doesn't really do him any favours...

//Can't believe they put Legolas on a skateboard :-| (briefly I'll admit, but pathetic)
Agreed. Bad move.

//Gollum/Smeagol was slightly disappointing to me.
I really liked Gollum. He wasn't what I was expecting, but I realised that they had the character right, and my impressions had been wrong. He was more - ummm - human, which made it more apparent what a tragic creature he was. Every scene with him in it made me want to cry.

//Ents were better than what I'd seen on making-of-LOTR shows
I wasn't that impressed with the Ents. I think the book describes them as wading through the earth as if it was water, which they didn't really, and I was expecting them to be a bit more....bulky. Their fight scene was pretty amazing though.

///Legolas on a skateboard

That was the shittiest part of the whole movie-otherwise it was pretty damn good.

my favourite character died!

Yeah that was sad....but not shitty.

*Pats Prozaco on the back*

*cries*

oh well... he lives on in my memory! *cheese*

hmmm, yeah, it was sad. AND he was a great character, AND I was so excited in the movie when he appeared with reinforcements, AND I really am sorry that he died. Really. AND I hope the trauma doesn't permanently affect you. It's OK. You'll be just fine, I *promise*

It would've been a bit more heartrending if I hadn't been distracted by thinking "aaaaahhhhhh, that's Prozaco's fave character..."

sorry heather :P
it was still pretty sad though, right? RIGHT? hes a great character.... RIGHT???

i think i'm going to start a tribute website.
obviously i have way to much free time...

Also, I've now seen the collecters edition DVD of TFOTR. Love the added scene with them all getting presents from the elves. The entire movie is explained a lot more too.

Hey!!! What's with giving shit away, guys? I just barely managed to avoid reading them... :P

we havent given away much. all you know is that gimli is funny har har, leggy can skate, the ents look cool, and someone dies :P
