C - POP ARTISTS DONT PLAY INSTRUMENTS: this comes back to A and the fact that pop groups lack talent if any.
D - POP IS PROMOTING SOCIETYS DOWNFALL: that image is more important than individuality and that peer pressure is rife, despite what they tell you, pop is turning the brains of our young into mush far worse than a few hits of P or acid could ever do. There are plenty of great bands that describe themselves as Pop that *are* talented, write their own songs, play their own instruments, and champion individuality.
Your complaint isn't that pop is bad, it's just that there is too much bad pop. See the difference?

Pop music (as defined above, at least. I have a different definition) has a place in the world, though it's a place I choose not to visit. It fills the mind of those people who like to be told what to like, who can't be bothered to have a strong opinion about music, or whose passion lies elsewhere. It's aural filler for people who aren't greatly concerned with the intricacies of music. I doubt you'd find many of those here on this forum, and I think it would be silly to try to argue with them here.
As for my own definition of 'pop music', there are quite a few bands I'd call pop (and would likely call themselves pop as well) that I really enjoy listening to.
Music doesn't have to be full of Angst and Vitriol to be good, but I would guess that it has to rile you up in some way. The music you've chosen to define as pop music is not designed to rile you up. It's a money-making machine, and you're not the target market. Or at least I'm assuming you're not 11-17 year old, which is the age group with the largest disposable income, which is why the music is designed to rile the greatest number of THEM up, not you.

There are good programmers and bad programmers, so there must be some "talent" factor in it. Believe it or not even DJ's have to practise for years to become good at their profession.
I too play electric guitar, and I tend to use a lot of effects. Some could say that this way of playing is fake, though they wouldn't apprectiate the amount of time and practise it has taken to gain proficiency in it. What do you reckon?
I bet if you tried to program some music on the computer, you'd realise that there IS a lot of skill involved, as you'd quickly find how shit you are at it. Maybe it would humble you a little.

Nsync was given as an example of a pop artist who doesn't write their own songs. This ain't true. Most of the songs on Nsync's last album "Celebrity" were co-written by various members of Nsync. Their first single off that CD, "Pop" was written by Justin Timberlake and Nsync's choroeographer - and it's a really cool pop song. On Mr Timberlake's new album, he's co-written all the songs.

Anyway, it is true that pop groups and some pop idols (You use the word artist which applies to people who play good pop (meaning popular) music i.e. INXS, The Exponents etc etc.) are exploiting (or being exploited to exploit) young teenage girls (notice the men are wise - sorry, but as a man I think it's only fair to point out) to sell millions of singles, albums and merchandise.
However pop music is also the evolution of music in a child's brain and heart. It is simply constructed, it has simple lyrics and basic themes - Why??? - because the first book you read wasn't "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold" or "Schindler's List"....It was "Where The Wild Things Are" or "Spot Goes To The Beach". In other words let people grow up and graduate to a higher mental state in the normal way....even if you don't choose to join in.

I love looking at the top 20 Top of the pop charts every now and then, always cracks me up you get like
No. 20 - U2, and then like 19 one hit wonder groups with stupid names like gogirl 123, the eastboys...a funny bunch of producers just spooning out tracks to a stupid public with different good looking boys and girls fronting them. The whole idea that these producers in the UK, US are just releasing dozens of tracks a year, cause they know how to prey on youth and write catchy disposable pop....
I mean in NZ, you don't have to sell that many singles to be no.1, and when ever a kiddie pop song comes out all the freelance djs and shit have to buy a copy, and when you've got like 50-100 of these djs in wellington alone, well of course the single is always going to go to number 1.....if it wasn't for these lame djs being forced to buy shit like "the ketchup song", the chart would be a much more clear picture of what cds PEOPLE were actually buying.
But what really cracks me up, is that these producers must just be laughing at us behind our backs, they don't even need to write new songs anymore, they're just selling all the same songs back to us......how long are we going to keep on buying the same songs just with an updated synthesizer tone.
