I was just looking at the gig guide on idnigos website and i saw across a gig called die dj di. hmmmmm... Its looks like a cool lineup, and most of the acts are local (bonus), but it all sounds a bit aggressive to me. I mean theres lots of types of DJs - not just the pill popping glow stickers we see round town. I mean what about all the WKRP big affros and flares DJs of the 70s, do all these bands want to attack them too??

it's not about sucking dicks, it's about working together pooling resources to make high production gigs.....this did dj die success was the product of many people working together to get it done...poster illustrator, poster designer, video editor, video production/liason with TV, radio promo and many more....basically a lot of good bastards with a passion to raise the standard of rock gigs.
once the production standard of rock meets dance events...the playing field will be level, last night showed that we are well on the way.
Theres nothing wrong with DJs, rockers are to blame...for being happy to play $3 gigs with budgo A4 b&W, cheapening the whole appeeal of live music......we need to take what we can from dance events and apply it to gigs.

Do you think it is fair that jazz muso's can get like $500-$1000 for a 30 min set, yet bands playing original music struggle to get any money at all.
you are cheapening your music. sure more people can see it...but if a gig was standard $10 then people would pay $10. Last night was ridiculously good value for money...if people don't think they got $10 worth..they can fuck off....that gig was worth $25. if people had paid $25, all those bands would have got paid good money.
I'm not saying bands can charge this sort of money ($25) now...but if we build a community where punters can't just expect to see an amazing band for a couple of bucks then maybe people will give music the respect it deserves and bands will get some money.
I talked about this to the bassist from sommerset (to respond to your "punk" argument), he agreed, they used to think cheap gigs were cool, and loved it, but then realised no-one was prepared to pay more then $5 and they couldn't afford to tour.

that attitude bullshit..$10 is less then the price of a 90 minute movie. half the price of a round of golf. The price of a shitty mcdonalds super combo...yet you don't think it is fair to pay $10+ for usually 4+ good fucking quality bands.....maybe you're just used to seeing shit bands that aren't worth $10.
The thing is $10 seems alot of money to us right now.....what i'm saying is it shouldn't......it will take years before people are happy to part with decent cash, but we have to start somewhere bro.......i believe that recordings should be cheap/free so that people have the music, and then if they like the bands in question they should pay good money to see them live.
How are bands ever meant to make a living if they can't charge a decent amount for their shows....venues/bands/promoters need to work together to ensure that bands start to make money.
