well because of a stupid prior arrangement, i only got to see about 6 songs, but what i saw was the sweetest sounding, fullest beautiful shit around. so glad i got to hear strum, brakes and private joke, missed slowburner though. doh.

it's been a while since i've heard guitar and bass tone work so magically together to create one big swirling beast of rock. and nice finish to 3 most enjoyable sets over the weekend by po-ha, mestar and the lambs.

i quite like looma, are most of their songs instrumental??? cause i haven't been to many gigs, i haven't seen many bands like this and it isn't what im used too.

i am hesitant to make comparisons, i know jules will give me shit:) the following are just bands you'd prob like if you liked the lambs and looma. get a copy of looma latest and it will have you hanging out for their new one which i think is on the way.

but i'd say listen to po-ha, mescalin, rawer, ejector (local), meterman, xanadu, Jakob,
preston school of industry, my bloody valentine, Couch, Interpol (intl) among many fuckn others.

looma: listen to bailter space and my bloody valentine those are the bands i hear in them. Calling Looma noise rock is stupid stefan. I have heard no noise from this band. Lush beautiful pop sounds i would say post pop rock. You want noise rock listen to snapper. Dont write off noise rock or looma so easily i mean HDU and looma? poles apart nothing similar at all. HDU dark cold, looma warm and happy.

Letterbox lambs: Not fugazi. I would say listen to most wellington rock bands playing around today. Shows the impact that band had on this wee town.

I knew someone would complain about my Looma call. It is the best I can do to hint at what they are, you cannot deny their noise rock ethic though Andoru. The choatic distorted guitars etc. To say they aren't is stupid too. Listen to the track "Continuum" Andoru, tell me otherwise, please.
You say Looma and HDU, one warm, one happy, so? It isn't the tone of the music but the style. Anyway this is a discussion where I am in over my head so I'll stop.

Have you heard The Argument by Fugazi? I think that's a fair call - they def come from the same place philosophically. Jawload + Hell is other people are also worth checking out.
Looma - bailter space, and maybe a little pixies in there somewhere? there's another band recently that reminded me of lambs, I just can't remember at the moment. Have to come back to it.

I'm saying nothing of the sort. I'm saying they are poppier than other bands people say they sound like which, as far as I am concerned, has nothing to do with whether Looma are "better" than any other band.

I have no idea what you think noise rock is supposed to be, but Looma definitely share some things with bands that other people call noise rock. Personally, I hate this whole million different names for rock thing anyway. It's stupid and largely irrelevant.

For the record - other bands that I think of when I hear Looma - The 3Ds, Jakob. Other bands that I think of when I hear the Lambs: none.

Ian the only reason you probably like looma is because the bass player is pretty and might have marketable prospects if she ditched the rest of the band.
