I was there last year - one suggestion: be early. It took about three hours last year for me to get in once I hit the end of the queue - as they check your cars for alcohol, its a very slow process getting everyone in.

There were still people in line at 11.30pm last time. being a bit of an anal bastard when it comes to getting places on time, I insisted on getting there a couple of hours before kick off and we still spent about 45 minutes in line.
And they are really thorough with the alcohol checks to the point of checking under your bonnet, your wheels, everywhere.
I'd also recommend taking something to use as shade. A big umbrella or a tarp. The beautiful northland sun is all good but your brain feels baked by the end of the day.

Allow me to share with you the "GREATEST" ever booze smuggling trick ever.
I have dont this every BDO that i can remember.
Buy yourself some 1.5 or 2L mixers.
Get a hair dryer and heat the lid of the bottle untill it goes a bit soft, (but not too much so that you warp it.) You will now be able to remove the cap (carefully) without breaking the seal. Tip out enough to put your desired amount of spirit in and replace the cap (the cap will go back on easy as it is going with the thread.) Now you have what appears to be an unopened bottle of coke or whatever. Obviously you wouldnt be stupid enough to put burbon in a lemonade or fanta bottle.
You also will get a laugh out of showing your bottle(s) to the security people checking them at the gate.

As for the transport thing, i would go by car but a)i don't have one and b)i can't drive. There's always a coach but i figured it's cheaper to hitch a ride wit someone.
