This chat is alot safer and easier to use than those dodgy irc channels.

You will need a hotmail account to join though. I figure most people have one of these.

try this go here,

www.xtra.co.nz, then at the top click on the link that says "People and Chat", then click "Chat Home" then on the left hand side under Chat rooms you will see a whole lot of catagories, click on the link that says "Music" Now you will be able to see the room i called New Zealand Music.

There that should work!

and yeah, those irc servers fuck me over too. can we not use noizylands chat? seems ok for what we need, despite the bugs.

msn doesn't let in people who don't use Windoze either ... which is a bit weird if they're using platform-adaptable Java, but however ... i guess that's why IRC is better in some ways. i miss yacking to y'all.

dodgy irc? no no, if u have a private channel you're sweet, u can put passwords or what have u..up to you, or u can keep it under a name that only specific ppl will know..its no dodgier than any other chat :)

"click on one button and enter".. uhh that's basically what I do to get to austnet. the channel doesn't suck, the users do. and btw it should be no more money to run a chat server - I mean the bandwidth use is pretty minimal as far as things go (come on, they're streaming video from here heh)

austnet is fucked. it doesnt allow some clients, and you seem to get banned for no reason for using certain nicknames. Also those of us that use a web based client are often redirected to different servers. go figure. and there are all sorts of stupid fucks running scripts and trying to hack your computer, ive had it happen lots of times. maybe all irc is not shit, but the servers we seem to use are. esp austnet

that msn thing i did last night was just an experiment, a few people were in there from this site, and a few random ones as well.

music chat would be a great idea, but right now it sucks on that server.

I mean if we want the comforts of a good channel we'll need people to get off their butts and stop using silly applets.. hey and I'm all for moving off austnet if needs be.. be nice to come to a good conscensous.. I just think MSN is the most volatile app I have on my computer at the moment and I'd hate to rely on it even more.

Its too much of a big ask to get people ...

Its too much of a big ask to get people to d/l a decent client and then learn how to use it. Your average user probably gets turned off and confused by having to enter server names and channel names etc. If chat is to gain more users it needs to be alot more simple. Personally i cant see anymore people using it untill a link to a simple applet on a safe server is run off this site.

But id still rather more videos than chat :)
