People who stand still at gigs

Ive been to a few gigs recently with 90 % of the crowd standing completley still (not dancing AT ALL let alone moving) including the red hot chillies concert here in chch (of which the crowd was fucking shit 16,000 people there and only about 10 rows moshing not including the people in the chillie bin) why do these people not mosh well maybe they don't have to mosh but at least dance or even MOVE!!!! maybe its cause their not drunk and they have to drink to have fun (which is pretty sad) or maybe they just like standing and taking in the music? whatever the answer is im confused???? someone help me here?

Forums: The Bar,

The reason people stand there is a mighty fear of embarrassment. They fear that if the move their knees at all they be labelled as queer. People that stand there kind of enthralled are either megaly big embarrassed fans or else really stoned. I hope i've made it clearer.

or there are those who are just takeing it all in and never need to dance or move to express how much they are enjoying it,

look at there eyes you can see weather they are there or not

one of the best gigs ive been too this year was the TLBT gig, that rocked, i sat on my seat the whole time, chatting and enjoying the music, sitting around lets u listen to it, not just hear it.
if i feel like it i'll jump around goin mental, but often i have no idea what the song was about or how good it was and i often i regret not actually seeing the band

Way too self-conscious. Most people won't start jumping around until everyone else is.

It's worse at smaller gigs when there's that one blonde, dreadlocked, scraggy-bearded freak flailing around like a maniac just in front of the stage. Because of this individual, everyone else is scared that if they do more than the merest hint of a head-bob and foot-tap, then they'll look just as loopy.

LOL!

i'm a fidgeter, i must tap, shake, quake, shudder, nod, drum fingers and wiggle feet at gigs. 99% of the time i just cannot sit still - sometimes i think i am and then i realise everything's going anyway.

but for certain bands - HDU, the Bats, the Clean - i'm the first loony up there. i will explode if i do not dance at those gigs.

I also need to jump around, but I'm all too often guilty of just standing there nodding my head and and thinking "DANCE, DAMN YOU!!!" thoughts at the philistines surrounding me. Watching Pluto at the True Colours gig was torture. How can anyone stand still in the presence of such foot-stomping genuis?

Heather! When have you seen me at a gig? I've done the "blonde, dreadlocked, scraggy-bearded freak flailing around like a maniac just in front of the stage", except that I'm not blonde and don't have dreads. I'm shy about being on first, but if I'm dancing and everyone else sits down, that won't stop me.

I was at Pluto at the True Colours gig and dancing - thought a lot were.

But I have been to gigs where I was to blown away to move - when I saw Paselode, I wanted to listen, and listen good. Not being a woman, I can't listen and dance at the same time.

Hmmm, after hearing what you do at gigs, iluvtheclean, maybe I won't phone you!

I must've been further from the front than I remember. Geez, good thinking batgirl...

...and next time I spot a non-blonde, non-dreadlocked scraggy-bearded freak flailing etc etc I'll be sure to get up and join you.

Haha, I saw Pluot at true colours, as great as they were, most people around werent moving, I got the feeling people liked them but didnt know how to respond...
Myshkin...it must have been you moving and seeing everything in a blur and thinking the blur was other people moving!

i don't care how many people are up their either...im normally the first person to jump around like a blithering idiot...its good fun...but the thing is im not exactly a small lad (tall and bulky not a fat ass lol) so sometimes im scared im gonna crush some or hit them or something if i was littler i was go nuts all the nut...it normally takes one person to set a whole crowd off though

//the blur was other people moving!
Ha!

//people liked them but didnt know how to respond
I thought maybe the audience comprised a lot of ickle kiddles waiting for Shih-sorry, Pacifier to come on. No appreciation of the finer things in life, this younger generation.

Maybe you're right - it was a wee while ago and I have a fading memory, so it may have been another Pluto gig. I know I sure as hell wasn't dancing to Pacifier that night.

Oh, and Heather - if all goes well, the only place you're likely to see me flailing like a flailing thing is Dunedin - long way from the 09.

Awww geez, I figured even if we didn't make beautiful music together we could at least flail to it...

for me it depends on the mood i'm in. sometimes i like to move around and sometimes i like to just stand still. it doesn't depend on how much i enjoy the music, i just do whatever i feel like at the time.

yes ill second that....

yeah same here
