I saw Fur Patrol! I haven't seen Fur Patrol for three & a half years! Joy! Rapture! Bliss! They were greeeeeeeaaaat!!!!!
Carly Binding was pretty good, but I think she's trying a bit too hard to be Bic Runga. The guys in the audience seemed to know all the lyrics. King Kapisi sounded great from where I was sitting, but that was outside at the bar, so I can't be 100% sure, really... Stellar played all their old hits and they got a good reception. Great lighting. Che Fu, also, sounded great from the bar. Didn't stick around for Dave Dobbyn.
Wednesday was fantastic, although my companions made some disparaging remarks about the mixing. I didn't notice. I thought Pluto were comparitively restrained (although they still Rawked, of course), which I assume is because they need (and deserve) a lot more time and space than they were allocated. Would've loved to see them at Galatos. PanAm and Betchadupa were really tight and great fun. I've never seen Evermore before, and I have to admit I was surprised at how good they were. Totally up there with the other two.
I did notice the problems they had with the sound on Thursday, which is probably to do with the fact that there was a quite a bit of instrument juggling going on (the night was described by Ben from Fang as 'art-school dropout night'). However, the Brunettes were by far the best act I saw out of the gigs I went to (excluding, of course, Fur Patrol who can do no wrong). Still slutted that I missed Pine, however. I thought Damien Binder was playing first. (Not that I think Damien Binder is bad or anything, but if I had a choice...).
Having seen the bands play, and now knowing exactly how much a band can achieve in half an hour, I reckon the whole exercise was really worthwhile, and I really hope that a lot of the bands benefit from it.
The pink-tutued good fairy has spoken.

I would've really loved to have checked out friday night - but age restriction was a bummer :(
But it sounds like it was a great event and from what i've read, it sounds like our local talent more than impressed the big overseas music reps.
Well done to all the bands/artists that performed over the Worl Series.

Actually I heard they left the country with very favourable impressions of NZ music (at the very least they now know where NZ is, and that it is not the 45th state of USA somewhere down by Texas, or one of those Eastern Block breakaways).
We'll just have to wait and see . . .

but you only have to look at music biz history to know that choosing which bands to sign has nothing to do with anything. its almost random....
