On Tuesday a decision was made by the members of Wellington based group Electrolite to break up the band. Certain people were not enjoying playing with the group and the direction that the music was heading in.
Luke Marlow and Karl Fitzpatrick are looking to form a new band with a more pop/radio friendly sound. Oliver Labone will form a new project with a slightly darker and more ambient side than previously seen, while at the same time still including rockier songs.
On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone who has supported and encouraged us over the last eight months. I have had an excellent time and been amazed at the reception we have had from the Wellington music scene. It's a shame that it has all come to an end so soon, just as we had begun building a reputation for ourselves. Unfortunately, I didn't have much of a choice in the matter and had to concede to the majority and end it at this point.
Altogether we played 8 gigs over a period of 5 months, not a bad track record. Thanks to the venues: Valve, Bodega, Indigo, and The Cross; we had many different experiences at these places but enjoyed them all. Thanks also to Blink photography and Sticky Fingers.
If you ever saw us live, thank you, and I hope you took something good away from it. I'll keep you guys informed on future projects from all members. Until later.

Anyone who forms a band/writes a song/puts out a record to get famous or be radio friendly are not doing it for the right reasons. Put it bluntly are going to suck ass.
I am not commenting on the music being commerical i am talking about TRYING to be commerical in the sound. Basicly your that cunt who plays guitar is stellar$

Well i thought some of it was radio friendly but generally it was to shite to be put on radio. Like i mean some of it was great but the accoustic stuff made me sick...........
Ollie youll be right mate. IF you wrote the songs which you said you did your going to have no trouble doing the music thing and your a top bloke.

What's with the big IF Andrew? :) Of course I wrote the songs I said I did! Don't worry, the new stuff will not sound anything like Tadpole's idea of dark and ambient. Basically I want to cross some Straitjacket Fits with some Dimmer and HDU mixed with some old Pumpkins but rock it up a bit more. Sounds confusing but it won't be. I don't think I'll ever be quite as extreme as Rawer though!

Some of what's been said here differs a bit from what I've heard from other band members, but does any of that really matter so long as they all keep music alive, albeit separately? Personally I enjoyed the Electrolite experience, regardless whether it was or was not "radio friendly". And isn't it better that they all decided to end it now rather than drag out a combination that no one involved was really happy with, which would have lead to everyone losing? Seems like it was the right thing to do.
Good luck for all the future efforts of all the former Electrolite dudes.
