where to start. this new zed song - 'starlight' i think its called - makes me sick.
im not one to be nutting off at an earnest nz artist for nothing, but when they do this sort of shit is when i cant take it any more. The song actually isnt THAT bad (THAT as in its certainly nothing i would listen to but could understand why a few peple might like it). its sort of a washed out weezer type pop.
however, what IS bad is the video. I actually thought it was a joke - however i soon realised the only joke was the lame 'look at this, its really funny' joke in the video storyline. i won't go into details but what fucks me off is that they have become american. I know this is an allegation levelled at heaps of bands who attempt to make it in the states, and it annoys me no end. but in this case the band deserves it.
The vid is set in an american high school. -1 points
it features bimbo, evil cheerleaders. -2 points
it features jocks in their lettered vests who are also mean. - 5 points
it features a couple of stereotypical 'losers' who intially are luckless but eventually succeed. -10 points
it features screen 'glitter' which is linked to a bottle of powerade(you'll understand when you see it) - many points.
THEY HAVE REMOVED ANY CHANCE OF ANYONE REALISING THEYRE FROM NEW ZEALAND. - a million points.
it makes me really sad. if zed could come on here and explain why they are pretending they are american, it'd be great. also if andy could tell me why he's dyed some of his dreads pink, thatd be cool too (this isnt a bad thing, in fact i'd gamble the record company fought long and hard).

Yes it is crying shame, no disagreement from me at all, and when I think back to the songs that were being toured early this year that showed promise, maturity, and a natural progression from the stuff they wrote as young to mid teens, which by the way are not going to be on the new album, looking at the titles that will be on it I get the feeling that they are not being allowed to grow up and are being forced to remain for ever mmmmmmmbop

Well The Have i think have apparently been signed, the rumour is universal i think. Wether this will kill them or give them a launching pad is yet to be seen. Their video and single have already been recorded....am waiting with eager anticipation to see if their label have turned them into teen pop rock'n'roll princess's or if they get to keep some of their dignity.

actually, i didn't think there was anything more good looking than the stylishly scruffy datsuns. At the moment their image is fasionable, marketable and most importantly "cool" just like rock'n'roll is at the moment.
The new Zed song is _horrible_ but i think it's off the soundtrack to a movie, so naturally the video is just there to sell the movie to the spoon fed mtv fans in the US. I would find it hard to believe someone in a suit and tie wasn't telling them what to do with that video. Heres just hoping that their next single leaves them with more control as artists and _doesn't_ suck as much as "starlight". Fuck, the original sucked.

I dnt think the american produces would consider doin a clip with kiwiana in it seeing it has nothing 2 do with the movie ...or even the song .

I first heard the song and hated it... but after a few listens it's grown on my slightly. about the video - the song is FOR THE MOVIE. it's not for zed, it's not about the song, it's FOR THE MOVIE. the song is FOR THE MOVIE. the video is made by an American thingy, so of course it's going to be Americanish. their AMERICAN record company wouldn't just go and think "this is a NZ band so we should get a NZ video maker person to make the video so it seems like a kiwi vid".
the good thing is that it will most proberly appeal to the americans. sadly, it's not the zed we know and love - but it's one song and theres still a whole albumfull more to come.
hopefully new fans will go to the zed site and see they have previous released stuff and buy it, so they will still be getting that original zed work that has gotten them to where they are today.

I think the controversial comments surrounding pacifers new album are valid and have mainly come from fans of the band and people who care about music as an art form not a commodity. zed however have never made any credible music and would not draw such attention because noone really cares enough to take them seriously.
