In their mailing list it was said that they were definitely doing some New Zealand dates for this tour, whether that means Akl only or not is another matter.

actually, pearl jam are notorious in nz for not having a new zealand support on the yield tour. they brought some other band over with them. only big band to do so going against what is actually "required" to tour here.

i reckon pluto would be the ideal support act for pj.

They'd probably take Betchadupa with them I reckon....the dynamic was pretty wicked at the St. James. *listens to the betchadupa rip off bass line in one of the new songs* tee hee hee

Radiohead also didn't have a local support act. In fact, they didn't have a support act at all.

//Radiohead also didn't have a local support act. In fact, they didn't have a support act at all.

radiohead were being supported by the dead flowers but for some reason, the dead flowers pulled out at the last minute leaving no time for a replacement.

you are just a fountain of knowlege vietnow.

I've heard the suggestion that the reason we've been left off the schedule (hopefully only this far..but if it's final) is because of a lack of decent sized seated venues. Of course they wont play GA anymore after Roskilde...I hope this isn't the case. They'd be teasing little bitches if they don't come considering how often it was said throughout the last year that NZ/Aus will be the next place toured...plus Vedder seems to mention NZ and the Herald in particular every 5 seconds.

Lets not encourage shite like pearl jam to come to this country.

On a more positive note. The guitarist from HUSKER DU is playing a one off solo show in auckland on the 8th. word up.

//Lets not encourage shite

bad karma, can you feel it?

Sorry cant see it. stalker.

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

I can't see it either. In fact I hold Vedder and his mates personally responsible for spawning the goddawful Creed and Lifehouse et al atrocities that did their best to destroy rock n' roll in the late '90s. Talk about karma!

I have to agree with you on that one tclak.

//In fact I hold Vedder and his mates personally responsible for spawning the goddawful Creed and Lifehouse

yeah, and by that logic rage are responsible for all the numetal bands. don't get me wrong, i don't really like pearl jam, but how can you hold a guy responsible for writing music that was credible, and influenced some shite music?

hehehe. i fully agree.

//I can't see it either.

and it's not the relationship between his dislike of pearl jam and karma i'm talking about. most of the regs know what i meant, i'm sure.

agreed manamana - never really got into Pearl Jam at any point, but when i heard Eddie sing at the Neil Finn extravaganza, holy sheet boy was i ready to cut him some serious slack. he has an absolutely incredible voice, i don't think any of the recordings have actually picked it up (and all they've done is spawn a heap of longhaired artificially low pitch chest singers).

i was very impressed. it was like a soft bomb, slowly exploding resonance. but i still don't like the band that much.

i think i might just go and stalk pacifier around the city and hound them after shows till they tell me to leave. most of the regs know what i mean, i'm sure.

// but how can you hold a guy responsible for writing music that was credible

its not the music vietnow, its his voice.

hows when you meet eddie vedder at piha beach and your mate goes... "hey i really like what the bands doing man, but just not digging your voice" *oh the shame*

Ah yeh Vietnow, you went along with the logic nicely. Couldn't think of a better or more fitting analogy myself.

//but how can you hold a guy responsible for writing music that was credible, and influenced some shite music?

can you actually blame pearl jam? their heart and soul was in the music they were making, because creed pops up five years down the track, we put pearl jam on the dock and point the finger? opinion please.

//the goddawful Creed and Lifehouse et al atrocities that did their best to destroy rock n' roll in the late '90s.

and rock n roll was dead by the end of the decade anyway. that's the only reason these bands were able to exist.

Perhaps this is why rock n' roll is biting back. It was never dead, just hiding. It was biding its time, gathering strength, intelligence and innovation. What is happening to rock now in NZ is much more relevant and exciting than paying mega bucks to see some US grunge dinosaurs harp on about their personal gripes. Open your eyes to what is around you.

// Open your eyes to what is around you.

yeah, good one.

Sorry buddy, I didn't mean to rattle your cage.

Peace. I'll shut up now.

anyone got/heard Riot Act yet? How does it compare to older PJ?

i've heard it and find it to be ok. mike mccreedy is still doing those awful solos.
that said, the only PJ album i like is no code. i think the general consensus is that it's better than yield and maybe struggles against the earlier material.

That's funny, I've always thought the solos were less and less apparent with each release.

I think most people equate Peal Jam with their first two albums when grunge was still cool and the beery anthems from Vitalogy, which is fair enough I suppose, but still a shame because No Code and Yield are solid and enjoyable rock records that I still play regularly and with songs still sound fresh and relevant 5 years later.

I love Riot Act. On Letterman tonight they're doing my personal favourite track...
