does anyone else have this? i remember it came out round the 15th anniversary of Flying Nun. written by Tim Davey and Horst Puschmann, it's basically a huge index of releases by NZ musicians, compilations, labels, and it's exhaustive and very thorough. it came with an excellent CD too.
if anyone knows the guys who put it out, tell them i love them and do they have plans to update it at some point?

Clean have at look out for Bryan Staff's book For the Record, Pub: David Bateman, it was put iut earlier this year

You could go see it in the Hocken library - they mentioned it in a Bulletin they put out in March or so about their NZ music collection (might go take a look myself when I'm in Dunedin-town next week).
If you can read German, you might be able to track down Horst Puschmann - he has also written a book about Joy Division called "Inside Out" (thanks Google), and there are a couple of web pages where he has written things about them - one this year it seems. Google's translator doesn't leave me very clear as to exactly what's being written!

As for Tim Davey - you can ask him yourself at tim.davey@orica.com - after doing PhD in Chemistry at Otago, he went to work with Dulux paints in Sydney. Again, thanks Google.

yeah, i just wish that more people had access to the Kiwi Rock book. it's a totally indispensible resource for me, and i feel like i'm the only blessed person in the entire world to actually own a copy. i think the market for it now would be increased 10 fold, especially if the authors updated it or created a supplement.
Roi of Records Records might know of a few copies floating around somewheres. i imagine there are a few boxes of unsold copies somewhere. i might write to the authors and suggest they put the data online ...
Well, you will be pleased to know it ...
Well, you will be pleased to know it will be me and you now - I have secured a copy for the huge sum of $20, which "includes a CD of rare/ outtake songs by The Chills, SJ Fits, JPSE
etc." if anyone else is interested. Thanks to the NZPOP mailing list for pointing me to a supplier and to Slow Boat Records in Wellington (slow.boat.music@xtra.co.nz) for being that supplier.

I'm one of the authors of the book, and it is great to hear that it is still appreciated. Thanks for the positive comments, especially to iluvtheclean. It is for people like youreselves that we wrote the book. No chance of doing an update as we're both out of NZ now (me in Melbourne and Horst in Durham, UK). We had the content up on the web for a few years but then it dropped off. We're trying to resurrect it. If someone would like to do an update that would be great, but I will warn you that a lot of work is involved! I had a thought that Slow Boat still had some copies, so harrass them if you want more. Nice people there.
Feel free to contact me at timdavey@bigpond.com for any further info.

My copy turned up today - not the sort of thing you can skim read and say "that's great" - a truckload of good hard information to savour. Thanks. As for the kiwi rock site - my googling revealed it to have a bit of a legendary status, so would love to see it come back. As for updating - I could only pretend to do a small corner of that work. Happy to do what I can, though. Sounds like it would be a good project for someone to get an academic credit for in a NZ music course somewhere.
