Hmmm... I dont know too much about amps in general but my fender bassman 100 gives a really solid sound. Not too big to carry either, so portability is fine. It has a little 'tooter horn' for giving definition to the higher notes and trebeley sounds.
Real good value at $1599....
But like I said, I don't have much experience with other types...
Samick's are cheap, but often put out a good sound. more often than not they are all midrange with not much treble, but now and again you can come across a good one. I've got a Peavey TNT at the moment, it's bloody good - was supposed to go thru a DI box last weekend, but no one noticed the box wasn't working ... max respect to Peavey for making a decent 150 wt amp that sounds as loud and clear as the PA!
i've talked about second hand gear with a few bassists here and in The Bar ... do a search perhaps ...
Depends what you want if you want something that ain't gonna last the distance. buy something cheap.
when I was 16 I purchased a brand new Hartke 1400 head and eminence 4 x 10. I have sold this set up and purchased it back 3 times.
it gets used most weekends and has stodd up to punishment from more bands than I can name. and with a head an speaker cabinet it is very scaleable. i.e. I have used a bigger to power the 4 x 10 and a 15 on occasions. plus I have used a smaller enclosure for other things
I know of a bass amp by Thunder Funk. It's 400-watt and as excellent sound quality.
The average pricing said on his website that it starts at $1,195. 00. But you can get one over Ebay from him, which he is selling for $850. 00.
If you want more information, then check out his website. You can look for it on Google, look of thunkfunk, and you'll find it.
