There is an indie rock Canadian band called Pluto also. Ironically when a track was playlisted at Morse I thought it was NZ pluto and when I asked " who is this" the reply was Pluto. I went for days thinking it was their new album (just prior to first albums release). Kinky.
But Pluto is such a cool name, it conjures up all these wonderfully diverse contrasting images , just like the band. Firstly, Disney’s ever so cute adorable pet dog of Mickey mouse, then you have this severely dark and darkly severe god of the underworld, a multidimensional villain in his own right. The acronym Pipe Line Under the Ocean also brings images of the underground, but more grounded in recent history, in the sea bed, as opposed to ancient myth, no immortals, but people who fought and died. Then the thought of the planet shoots us off past the stratosphere, out to space, way away to the furtherest reaches of the solar system.
I won’t mention the plutocrat because I think I’ve geeked myself out and the band is so down to earth.
In summary, it’s a great name, great band, it’ll be a shame if they have to change it.
