Seafood @ Bodega

Damn they ruled!!!!!!!!!
"Western Battle", "Cloaking", awesome! They gave it all they had, their last gig in New Zealand and their tour. When the guitars crunched and wailed it connected to your nerve control causing spasms of movement. The slower songs like "Similar Assassins" were beautiful painting pictures of colourful random structures in your ears. Ending with the awe inspiring "In This Light Will You Fight Me" started off as a walk on a sunny day by a lake under trees progressing into a wicked choatic storm at night as the band members thrashed about. The singer ended up on a stack of amps playing intensely with a drumstick on the guitar's strings and the bass player jumped off another amp into the crowd. He began to move slowly through to just behind the crowd facing the stage. He then ended up standing on the bar type area on the side of the crowd right wall. Once it was over the crowd kept clapping and cheering, waiting for more. Clapping and waiting. Finally they came out explaining they don't really do encores. A punter cried out "why the fuck not?", the response "they are cheesy". hear hear. "Desert Stretched Before the Sun" found the bass player in the audience watching and the drummer (a very cute female drummer) on vocals as well as the lead singer. A simple beautiful peaceful song. A person was heard exclaiming quite loudly "I want more". I think we all did. But it was not to be. I had to shake all their hands, I think I missed one of them. Seafood, come back please!
Sure some of the above metaphors may be cheesy but it was an awesome night.
I loved them before now I'm infatuated, obsessed, waiting for the come down. I can't sleep.

p.s. AutoZamm are pretty darn stonking good. Check them out if you have the chance.

Forums: The Bar,

yeah. nice fucking show. degrees k really should have played that tour with them, that would have been a wicked line-up. Seafood are nice people and play really good shit. i am getting me an album asap.

XANADU? what did everyone think?

AutoZamm were better. Xanadu were pretty hit and miss and lacked the killer vibe. not bad, not great.

kinda find that hard to believe.

Times i have heard xanadu they have blown my head off.

well that is how it was for me.

ha, ha
funny, cause when xanadu were playing i said to sally, man andrew would like these guys cause they suck. she agreed.
suck is a harsh word, cause they weren't too bad, just didn't connect with me. I can see why you like them though.

AUTOzamm is mike carpenters new band aye? what are they like, im not 18 yet so i didnt manage to go to the gig. Better/worse than canvas, what kind of musak do they play??? where can i hear some of their stuff.

better than Canvas. harder, tighter.

I agree wholeheartedly!

That was third time to the new Bodega, and probably the least crowded (where was everyone?), but without a doubt the best show I've seen there, one of the best I've seen(full stop). It felt so great to be part of such an intimate experience. They gave everything they had to so few people, and everyone there showed their full appreciation.

My only complaint, it was over too soon. I walked home that night feeling so charged up, it was hard to sleep. I woke up early the next morning and played the EP I'd bought there, trying to explain the experience to my gf, and failing miserably. Just as I'm doing now.

It was really empty until a few minutes before Seafood started. I was glad more people decided to show up as I was feeling very embarrassed by my city's turn out. Seafood were awesome, I was very glad I went. I hadn't heard any of the music beforehand but I gave them a chance and was well rewarded for it. Hope to see them down this way again.

p.s. did anyone else think they sounded a bit like Placebo in their rockier songs? I noticed a definite similarity, especially in the vocals.

thank goodness i didn't go then.

Yeah, I didn't think they would be quite your thing Andrew. I still enjoyed them though. You were right about Xanadu, they were quite impressive.

Hmmm... seafood. They were really good, it is always nice to be pleasantly surprised by a band youv never heard of.
At times had some simple Mogwaish guitars, especially at the beggining of that mellow song with the alternating male/female vocals.

Highly impressed and recommended - they must have been happy to have sold out of all the albums they bought along to the gig....

Ian i love you man.

arf...?

Xanadu rule. One of the best in the country in my opinion.
whats in the water up there? Meterman, xanadu, avotor, yokel ono.
