blindspott pre sell 13,000 albums

shiat....that's quite impressive, i was going to post this on the blindspott forum, but it takes to long to load the page (and i've got fuckn jetstream). please bitch about saul on this page....i can't be bothered having to load the blindspott forum every time to read it.

Good on em for pre-selling 13,000 albums, i reckon they'll go 4-6 times platinum with this album.
at least i hope they sell shitloads cause we all know the history of record labels in nz flogging a bands first album, then dropping them in the poo when there second album doesn't sell as well.

Respect to blindspott for how they have acheieved what they have acheieved. i find sauls and other people comments valid though, however i think saul is attacking the band, when personally i don't mind the band (nice bunch of guys), it's just that perhaps that their record label is going overly hard with this album so it sell through the roof because it is concerned about the shelf life of blindspott.

NZ bands are nieve and tend to go along with what labels tell them and thinking that selling shitloads of albums now means you will have a great career, when infact it just means your label makes a copius amount of money, your band lives the highlife for a few years...and then you are back where you began. "What comes up must come down".....I honestly hope blindspott and other NZ bands buck this trend cause i am sick of seeing it. The truly legendary nz bands didn't have huge hits with their first albums.

what are people thoughts on this?

Blindspott selling shitloads of albums of their debut.......Good or bad FOR THE BAND

Forums: NZ Music,

Go Blindspott!!

The album is awesome!
p.s i cant be bothered with that asshole saul anymore

yeah...but you didn't answer the question..

IAN, dude ive been trying to get hold of u since thursday. U have such fucked up hours compared to everyone else. Ur still coming to do our ball tonite...Yes?

Give us a bell, ive left my phonenumber on ur mobile for u twice.

Cheers chap

I think that what we are really seeing here is a phenomenon that has occurred only rarely in the past. I believe that this band has what it takes to develop into something extremely BIG! (and yes I've seen all the comments on "Nu-metal" in the blindspott column)! I also believe after reading many of the comments, that New Zealand really does have the "tall poppy syndrome"! Everyone needs to support this band because (despite all the negative 'copycat" comments) this band is ACTUALLY DIFFERENT. I have been listening to them develop for some time now and they simply have AWESOME potential internationally! I agree, it is a huge call in developing a second album after a hit album such as this, but I believe that the way this band is "moving forward" their next album will be even bigger! Freaky for some of you, I know, but also very, very likely!!! Sorry Saul and you other doubter's, but you've simply been doubting for far too long and look at what has happened!! You've all slipped into the hole!! I also agree with the comment that this album will go platinum at least twice over!!! Good shit blindspott!!!Keep producing that excellent sound!!!!

I quite like blindspott on a new zealand band scale they are quite good compared to the other shite out there.

But who cares i mean this will be their album. No one will like their next album they are the next tadpole.

I mean can you imagine blindspott playing in 5 years?

nope.

well i guess we will have to wait and see only time will tell!

Tadpole have supposedly been around for 8 years or some shite like that.

And Tadpole have improved since then

I hope emi burns in hell though.

Blindspott are just fuelling the fire as well. All in all blindspott will be fucked and EMi will be richer than ever.

harrah!!!!!

in my opinion it is good for the band it proves that lots of people like what blindspott are producing and they are not just one hit wonders
everyone song what they have realeased so far is getting better and better thats why people buy the album and thats good for the band
Blindspott have worked hard to get to where they are today so they totally deserve it! people say that they are another rip off of linkin park
but if u think about it they were around way before linkinpark was and to me and others they do not sound like linkin park

In their article in the newspaper today they said they hardly play live, so that people actually want to see them live.. or something along those lines. I like their music, from what I've heard.. those singles are pretty good. But I didn't think much of their live performance...

To me, live music is what it's all about. A recording is only a sample of how it will sound live. A live set is an amazing experience. But I hardly see them live so I loose interest.

Definitly awesome about their presold albums! From what I read today in the NZ Herald, they seem very hard working! Good on them!

I agree blindspott#1, how anybody can compare them with Linkinpark I relly do not know!!! They certainly sound absolutely nothing like Linkinpark to me!!! And yes they deserve every break they can get!!! As for angsty's comment, I could'nt disagree more!! I believe their live performance at the Auckland Town Hall was the best live performance seen in New Zealand in a very long time!!!

//Iperformance at the Auckland Town Hall

i thought you lived in America? wow you must be a great supporter to fly over to NZ just to see blindspott gigs. if im not mistaken you flew in for True Coulors and now the Town hall gig

//the best live performance seen in New Zealand in a very long time!!!

of course it was! as living in america you obviously go to so many nz gigs that we should all consider you some kind of authority. um hang on maybe you are just a wank?

manamana.....relaxxxx.....enjoy the sounds!!! Don't let things get you angst!!!! Big breath's, big breath's and you'll feel much better.................

i doubt they've pre-sold 13,000 at all. if they have that means they've outsold bic runga, eminem and elvis. it's more a case of the record company shipping loads of units to the stores, not the copies "pre-sold". blink, do you realise how ridculous this figure is?

// if they have that means they've outsold bic runga, eminem and elvis.

i mean in terms of pre and first-week sales, not total sales to date.

yes, it is a ridiculous figure, but i don't think completely unachievable. their singles which were apparnetly 5000 runs were selling out in a week, i have heard a rumour that emi have spent 200,000 on marketing for this album. 13,000 is a huge figure, i would have suspected more like 1,000-2000 at most pre-sold.....but that is not what my post is about. However i wouldn't put it past EMI buying 10,000 themselves to push the figure up and guarantee debuting at No. 1, I am just asking people if they think selling alot of albums of your debut is a good or bad thing.

//I am just asking people if they think selling alot of albums of your debut is a good or bad thing.

ok bro. i don't necessarily think it's a bad thing. although when one looks at past bands in the same loose *genre*, a big debut means a more-than-likely fade into little more than another band. looks at stellar, the feelers and tadpole. still sold a rspectable amount of albums second time around, but not enough to justify their existence on a major label.

i think blindspott may find it tough when the kids decide turntables and angst are no longer that cool. if blindspott can evolve when this finally happens, then all power to them. just, the nz public are usually very fickle when it comes to supporting our own.

Eminem has gone 5 x Platinum - that's 75, 000
Elvis has gone 2 x Platinum - 30, 000
Bic Runga has also gone 2 x Platinum - 30, 000

Just thought I'd clarify...

i like blindspott!

yessssss............................

If that figure is correct, I think it's fantastic that New Zealanders are being so enthusiastic about a local band.

that figure is correct!!

Go Blindspott!

nobody is aguing the figure isn't correct, we're just interested to know where the figure came from, does it include stores buying, the label. or is it just that 13,000 blindspott fans had the vision to pre-order their copys. Well done blindspott if so!

One point that hasn’t been brought up is that these sales figures that the New Zealand music industry spurts out in relation to artists album sales are actually just the amount of albums “sold in” to the music stores, by this I mean for example Sounds WGTN buys 400 copies of blindspots album, and this is the sales figure that’s charted, not the actual amount of albums physically bought by the consumers. So really all this 13000 albums talk is really just the amount of albums pre sold to the stores, and this amount will be charted, which is a nice easy way of giving blindspot a #1 debut album. But this isn’t to say that they wont actually sell this amount, it’s just not a 100% accurate representation of what music nz’ers are actually purchasing. A system similar to Soundscan (which is used in America to keep track of actual album sales) would give a much more accurate representation of what is actually being sold in the music stores.

I thought it was the 13000 that was being presold at soundsnz.com

If you go to blindspott.co.nz it says they're preselling albums at soundsnz.com

But what you said sounds more likely.

let's not worry about figures too much!! Let's just enjoy the music huh!!!

yeah who knows what the 13000 figure stands for, as i said above, emi probably bought 10000, but we all know this album is gonna be huge, and the band have definately worked for it. I hope for their second album they can really find something fresh though and add it to their sound. I don't believe they sound like linkin park, it's nieve to say that one band in a genre sounds like another...But when there are literally 1000s of nu-metal acts in the US, it is going to be very tough for blindspott to break it there.

If there live show can back up the hype, then all will be well. if Blindspott had built this huge fanbase from touring and playing wicked shows rather then having radio hits on commercial radio, well the story woul be different, ( i mean they have come to play in wellington once!, aguably the best live scene in the country and they have only played here once!, and now they are selling boatloads of albums)they ARE a radio hit band, and radio listeners are very fickle. If Blindspott do some amazing tours and break their backs performing this album live then hopefully they can build on this album and break the NZ 2nd album curse.

"blink" you are extremely sensible and I agree with your comments totally! There is obviously a hell of a lot of hard work ahead for blindspott, but, you know, I think they do have something special there! It may not be fully developed yet, but it is definitely there!

I heard that the NZ charts may be updated next year to be more of the soundscan system - actual albums sold to customers. much better system than having retail chain managers dictate the charts imho.

//much better system than having retail chain managers dictate the charts imho.

it's not so much that, it's the record companies offering "deals" to the retailers who buy in bulk. very incestuous.

// more of the soundscan system - actual albums sold to customers. much better system than having retail chain managers dictate the charts imho.

Till record companies pay stores to swipe their artist's albums when another artist is bought. OK, extreme case but yeah.

There is no such thing as a "chart".
In this country. It is all brought and bullshit.

how much money the record label puts up is what the act is in the charts.
Why else would pacifier get a number 1 album? Betchadupa, anika moa, the datsuns. i see a trend a big corporate cock.

I bet Ejector will sell more EP's than say Betchadupa did and Ejector aren't in the charts.

fuck that is so depressing............................................

// Why else would pacifier get a number 1 album?

because they sold a fuckload of albums in the first week? they did, i know this. in fact, they outsold the next best by two to one.

// I bet Ejector will sell more EP's than say Betchadupa did and Ejector aren't in the charts.

nice try, but no. get a clue.

// nice try, but no. get a clue.

harsh, buddy.

charts are generally bollocks, but andoru is the king of conspiracy theories when it comes to the charts.

Who really cares about the charts anyway?? I don't

//the amount of albums pre sold to the stores,
well i think blindspott shouldn't have any trouble's shifting 13000 unit's. even here in nz. there are more hard-core music lovers around than people care to want to know.
no prob's for me, i reserve the right to one, thanks.

Betchadupas two EPs each sold 200 copies.
I bet Ejector will sell more than 200..........

oh yeah i didnt realise they were having a big push for pre sales, so it could be kinda likely. but my point still stands in the bigger scheme of things, its just not as relevant to this particular thread, oops.

everyone should stop living in the past i mean come on arrested development and charles eddie both released great albums

Ejector PRE-SELL 13! copies of debut EP,

industry sources say this figure could be inflated through savvy marketing. Come and get your copy at the official ep release at Indigo this Saturday. Going head to head with Blindspott, lets see who tops the charts:)

beat that. we can name are pre salees.

make that 14......

almost there.
