I want to know what the deal is. People using this website are endlessly bagging Shihad, who are in my opinion the best music coming out of n z anyway. Firstly i would like to say that Mike Hunt is obviosly quite stupid, to say "best use of a service station. come on guys."in regards to the film clip for pacifier. what the f**k is that? if he knew anything about a clockwork orange or the meaning or the song pacifier, or if he had any understanding or idea at all of what a good film clip is maybe he wouldn't make such foolish comments. Another person adding to this is "Kiwi cow" claiming "someone needs to gain wieght" wow WHO REALLY CARES??? i guess we've all lost sight of what music is about all together, seeing physical appearance is all that matters now in music obviously, i guess some people will never be joining shihads fight against co-op rock...........talk about my mind's sedate aye.............cheers -peaches head

Everyone is constantly bagging the ...
Everyone is constantly bagging the beautiful jon about his wieght for one, and someone named "kiwi cow" has done it a couple of times on this website. SOme other guy called the pacifier clip crap because he doesnt understand it. People have tendencies to bag them in general on this site i find...did you know this shit australian magazine esky was talking about how aus claims nzers who do well as their own and stated " why would we want a singer as crap as jon anyway?!" BASTARDS!!!!! im an aussie and i would be proud to have jon as an aussie...lol but i know he's a kiwi anyway, so i dont really think the kiwi's should share him if they dont want. Understandable, he's a legend,,,, man id be keeping him all to myself!. :-)
ok fair enough, i agree fully..... but ...
ok fair enough, i agree fully..... but rolling stone said that if shihad were born in america they woulda been huge....then again i doubt they would have the same sorta music growing up in that environment
Damn right jimi, they would never been ...
Damn right jimi, they would never been able to use the sample of Lots of noodles on their Happy Meal song!
They are a good band, however they have never quite matched the Churn album. But lets not slag them.......
nah i dont agree wit dat.... man check ...
nah i dont agree wit dat.... man check out my minds sedate live...... i reckon there is nothing more hardcore than sitting on the foldback speakers in a small packed room, about a metre away from jon only in his undies, as he screams and falls on the floor: a fucken mad experience
FWIW ...without thinking about it too ...
FWIW ...without thinking about it too hard - Shihad are the most entertaining band this country has at present. There are certainly lots of bands on the rise that have got a lot to offer but there is a massive difference between potential and accomplishment. They've done it world class for as long as I can remember... - Mike Hunt is funny! We need mored wit and shit stirring (feeble fragile kiwi ego's) - Considering Shihad's profile I think they get very little hassles here (compared to Zed & Tadpole).
having seen & read a clockwork orange ...
having seen & read a clockwork orange several times, and listened to the song pacifier a few times, i still can't see the significance of a shell petrol station?! maybe they gave the band a few thou for some product placement!

TO mike Hunt - firstly a big SORRY, i thought you were bagging the film clip because you didn't have any knowledge of a clockwork orange, but after reading your last post i NOW realize that you were making a joke about the service station....lol.....sorry about this.
OK i guess not that many people bag shihad, but the first time i came to this site the first to posts i read were mike's and kiwi cows so in the state of the frantic i posted a big, lengthy note defending my favoutite band........but for any of you who actually do bag shihad.......no lol just kidding, sorry Mike.

mike cant handle bands being successful.... "OH MY GOD THEY PUT A SYMBOL IN A VIDEO THEY MUST HAVE BEEN PAID!!! EVERBODY LOOK SHIHAD HAVE SOLD OUT!!! EMPLOYING A STYLIST FOR PHOTO SHOOTS IS SELLING OUT!! HAVING GOOD EQUIPMENT IS SELLING OUT!!! SHIHAD SUCK NOW COS THEY HAVE A MORE POLISHED PRODUCTION SOUND, MEANING THEY SOUND MORE AMERICAN WHICH MEANS THEYVE SOLD OUT!!!!!!" seriously i didnt know someone so stupid could figure out how to use a computer.

As for product placement....we got zilch, nada, ning, zero.

Hey I really like some of what MY CUNT ...
Hey I really like some of what MY CUNT has been saying but I reckon he should at least stand up and tell us what his real name is and what band he plays in or at least what bank he works for and participate in the debate properly because I detect an enormous amount of tall poppy syndrome going on and although some of his points have merit and I'll be happy to explain why, how etc. I'd like you to stand up and be counted and maybe risk having people associate your opinions and judgements with the real human being - What about it? From the Coke snorting - ferrari driving - shell oil sponsored - stylised - sell out - Groupie rooting - easy livin' Fake marshall playing Rock peeg(AUS) TOM XXOO
i've watched this "debate" ...
i've watched this "debate" passively(?)for sometime, and loathe as i am to go against the grain, i thought mike had some good points. hopefully he hasn't left the argument, so we can DEBATE them reasonably. jimi if you look at the of the things mike raised as factors to why he thinks shihad have sold out, he has some valid points. but don't say "mike says shihad sold out coz they use good gear & have a stylist" because mike didn't say that. and if you look you were the one who actually started on the personal insults (lol). maybe we could start afresh, a new thread perhaps? also you've got to wonder if mike is serious or just a character sent here to antagonize people and add a bit of spice (a devils advocate i think they call it). maybe he's invented/employed by the site operators??! food for thought? (bummer if that is your real name man!)
yeah... a bit like my surname.... ...
yeah... a bit like my surname.... Head...bummer! oh....and to Tom and da boys...just keep that good shit goin man and remember for every disgruntled opinionated critic out there - theres a squillion fans who know better - a la jimi, peaches etc etc etc ... rock on!!!!!
point...who is mike anyway?? i dont ...
point...who is mike anyway?? i dont know of anyone else who can piss that many people off without even trying. & he keeps coming back...hes either very think skinned or just FUCKEN STOOPID. or maybe he just gets off on the abuse? oh well, makes for interesting reading for the rest of us.

victor.....actually the personal ...
victor.....actually the personal insults were started by mike in the 'feel free to argue' thread. and to get personal responses from shihad does make mike a bit of a legend.... whether its the type of legend you'd want to be remains to be seen..... if he wants to tell his grandkids 'hey guess what? i got nz's most successful band angry at me cool huh!" then he can go ahead lol!
and god if anyone thinks that shihad ARENT nz's most successful band, id like to hear your reasons.
agreed jimi...

however, allthough Neil Finn is officially not a band he is hugely successful financially and critically so it may be a mute point.. but as far as live performance go Shihad rests firmly on my "Top 8 Best live gigs of my life" list (now there's a new topic eh Tomble...).

MIKE HUNT WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS AYE?!

everyone talks about this mike hunt charater/person but ive only ever seen about 2 0r 3 msg's posted from him....wheres all this hostility coming from?
long, LONG story :p...
long, LONG story :p
I often wonder whether the involvement ...
I often wonder whether the involvement of Gerald Dwyer in Shihads management influenced the band.
He was one of NZ's top "punk" musicians, and during the earlier days with Churn and the live gigs at the time, Shihad seemed seemed alot harder and edgier than they are now.
Saying that, I have just recieved the new Dimmer album, and having never heard Shayne Carter since Straitjacket Fits, it seems as if he is going down the same road.
We can only accept change, it makes things interesting.
shihad still rock live... they ...
shihad still rock live... they especially shine in small, intimate venues such as nelson's artery. i dont know where you saw them gluepot, but i know they rock so hard it hurts the crowd, and i mean HURTS, i can tell you the 400 of us crammed into a 300 capacity venue were dying.... but so were the guys on stage! jon was lying on the ground, phil was having his guitar pulled off him, tom was smacking so hard on his drums the cymbals were lying strewn around the stage, and karl was continually falling off the stage. maybe some of that is lost in the larger venues, but still you have to admit the music is the important bit and they are still making good music.
i know im going off the issue here, but what would happen if, say a school band, popular within their school or small town, decided not to develop their style at all because of the fear that people would label them sellouts or fakes. im sure everyone would agree, that would be shit. so why do we say new zealand bands have sold out or things to that effect? just because something is popular in nz doesnt mean we should eagerly pounce on every fuck up or new direction a band takes. i dont really know what im going on about here, it just seems to me much of the stuff i hear from nz public, and much of the stuff i see/hear in the media seems to celebrate mistakes made in our music industry. i just reckon we should get behind almost anything from nz, because we can be proud of the quality we have.
I agree jimi, I have not seem them live ...
I agree jimi, I have not seem them live for a few years, as Shihad dont come to Scotland too often.
They are still a great band, however with The General Electric I think they lacked the punch of earlier albums. That is not to say that it is a bad album, just something I was not expecting.
Ther IS a point to this: I once read ...
Ther IS a point to this:
I once read this book/novel called "The Chrysalids" by John Wyndham for school. It's about a post-nuclear war earth where everyone has died or been reduced to disgusting primitives, EXCEPT for in New Zealand. The kiwi's (sorry to ruin the story) thive with telepathy which makes the need for speech obsolete. Therefore everyone's thoughts are conveyed Perfectly without misunderstandings or confusion of any sort.
Too bad it's not really like this huh? hehe... (I hope noone thinks I'm knocking Kiwis here)
*sigh* ohhhhh discussion boards, you cause so much trouble...
I wish I could read minds..... that ...
I wish I could read minds..... that would be cool (I think?)
Its a bit of a shame that we Kiwis are our own worst enemies, bagging and ripping down those that are willing to go out and do thier own thing and do it well.
oh well... I guess ear plugs could work
yeah those damn discussion boards ...
yeah those damn discussion boards aye...always getting in the way of being bland and boring!!!! i dont see in that book though, just cos they could have their feelings conveyed without misunderstanding, doesnt mean they didnt have arguments and disagreements does it? because i think if people said what they truly think, there would be some HUGE riffs opening up between certain groups.....
was that riffs or rifts?? =P oh wait ...
was that riffs or rifts?? =P oh wait its a music site same diff around here sometimes!
hehe, good one firelily... And Jim, ...
hehe, good one firelily...
And Jim, stop bashing everyones posts... it's getting kind of annoying. I never said arguments wouldn't exist, I said people could understand eachother perfectly.... unlike you who seem to misunderstand everything anyone writes. Try to be less confrontational and actually READ what people have to say for a change.
You'll be glad to note that I agree with the point that huge rifts could open up, but I would also be more inclined to believe that knowing the reasons behind someones beliefs would make them much more acceptable.
All I'm saying is nobody can really express their true opinions, as beliefs are only what we can say in a small amount of words, when in fact, our beliefs reach far beond what we can convey to people. Furthermore, the words we use may be interpreted differently by someone reading them, resulting an entirely different reaction and view on the thoughts that the we attempted to share.
Wow, this has less to do with music as I go... Point in case: KEEP AN OPEN MIND. THAT'S WHAT MAKES A DISCUSSION.
Nicely said Coluch. Personally I think ...
Nicely said Coluch. Personally I think too much time has been devoted to the stirlingly cliched efforts of Mr Hunt. More interesting is this whole phenomenum of the tall poppy syndrome. Why do we feel such a need to bash anyone in the public eye - anyone who is seen to be achieving, on whatever small or grand scale. I'm sure there have been numerous studies on this, but I have never got it. And how do we change it? How do we make the leap from knee-jerk putdowns to constructive and supportive criticism which ultimately serves to nurture any artist?
Bearing in mind that of course there are broad varients of talent, style and personal taste, basically anyone who has the courage to make a go of it in the NZ music industry deserves full respect just for that.
Surely?
I'd like to see that warm fuzy ...
I'd like to see that warm fuzy supportiveness everywhere... not just in the music scene.
It really can't hurt can it?

Ok let me just try to figure this out.
there would be less bitchiness if we could read each others minds.....hmmm.....i mean.....i guess it does work.....but it doesnt.
YES you would have an understanding of someone elses arguement but most of the time even if you do know and understand what the other person is getting at, a person is generally too stubborn to change there point of view.
i mean, why do you think we have racists?
but yes, i do get the point of what coluch was getting at. how nice it would be if everyone could keep an open mind....but unfortunetly there are problems in the world needing a greater solution than that......and no, im not talking about music forums lol.....
anyway if this doesnt make sense.......add your **friendly + supportive** comments............thanks champs.
this tall poppy thing...is it unique to ...
this tall poppy thing...is it unique to NZ ??- i think not - its a universal thing - we humans are curious beasts...and i think a lot of our natural emotions - envy/jealousy/selfishness/ego all get in the way and make us critical of those who excel...and until we learn to control those emotions and accept and respect other peoples opinions and abilities - it will always be so........wake up everybody and smell the roses (or poppies.. lol) And youre right Batabullet - we DO need to get behind and support anybody who contributes to kiwi music - its all good!!
