why oh why does everyone gotta dis shihad-i dont see a whole lot of better kiwi music, theyre by far the best nz band live & jon toogood does not need to put on weight, hes a sexy beast. fuck you to anyone who bitches about them-i dont mouth off about zed or breathe just coz i dont particularly like them!!! thank you peaches head, brilliantly put.

Everyone is constantly bagging the beautiful jon about his wieght for one, and someone named "kiwi cow" has done it a couple of times on this website. SOme other guy called the pacifier clip crap because he doesnt understand it. People have tendencies to bag them in general on this site i find...did you know this shit australian magazine esky was talking about how aus claims nzers who do well as their own and stated " why would we want a singer as crap as jon anyway?!" BASTARDS!!!!! im an aussie and i would be proud to have jon as an aussie...lol but i know he's a kiwi anyway, so i dont really think the kiwi's should share him if they dont want. Understandable, he's a legend,,,, man id be keeping him all to myself!. :-)

They are a good band, however they have never quite matched the Churn album. But lets not slag them.......

FWIW ...without thinking about it too hard - Shihad are the most entertaining band this country has at present. There are certainly lots of bands on the rise that have got a lot to offer but there is a massive difference between potential and accomplishment. They've done it world class for as long as I can remember... - Mike Hunt is funny! We need mored wit and shit stirring (feeble fragile kiwi ego's) - Considering Shihad's profile I think they get very little hassles here (compared to Zed & Tadpole).

shihad still rock live... they especially shine in small, intimate venues such as nelson's artery. i dont know where you saw them gluepot, but i know they rock so hard it hurts the crowd, and i mean HURTS, i can tell you the 400 of us crammed into a 300 capacity venue were dying.... but so were the guys on stage! jon was lying on the ground, phil was having his guitar pulled off him, tom was smacking so hard on his drums the cymbals were lying strewn around the stage, and karl was continually falling off the stage. maybe some of that is lost in the larger venues, but still you have to admit the music is the important bit and they are still making good music.
i know im going off the issue here, but what would happen if, say a school band, popular within their school or small town, decided not to develop their style at all because of the fear that people would label them sellouts or fakes. im sure everyone would agree, that would be shit. so why do we say new zealand bands have sold out or things to that effect? just because something is popular in nz doesnt mean we should eagerly pounce on every fuck up or new direction a band takes. i dont really know what im going on about here, it just seems to me much of the stuff i hear from nz public, and much of the stuff i see/hear in the media seems to celebrate mistakes made in our music industry. i just reckon we should get behind almost anything from nz, because we can be proud of the quality we have.

Ther IS a point to this:

I once read this book/novel called "The Chrysalids" by John Wyndham for school. It's about a post-nuclear war earth where everyone has died or been reduced to disgusting primitives, EXCEPT for in New Zealand. The kiwi's (sorry to ruin the story) thive with telepathy which makes the need for speech obsolete. Therefore everyone's thoughts are conveyed Perfectly without misunderstandings or confusion of any sort.

Try to be less confrontational and actually READ what people have to say for a change.

You'll be glad to note that I agree with the point that huge rifts could open up, but I would also be more inclined to believe that knowing the reasons behind someones beliefs would make them much more acceptable.

All I'm saying is nobody can really express their true opinions, as beliefs are only what we can say in a small amount of words, when in fact, our beliefs reach far beond what we can convey to people. Furthermore, the words we use may be interpreted differently by someone reading them, resulting an entirely different reaction and view on the thoughts that the we attempted to share.

this tall poppy thing...is it unique to NZ ??- i think not - its a universal thing - we humans are curious beasts...and i think a lot of our natural emotions - envy/jealousy/selfishness/ego all get in the way and make us critical of those who excel...and until we learn to control those emotions and accept and respect other peoples opinions and abilities - it will always be so........wake up everybody and smell the roses (or poppies.. lol) And youre right Batabullet - we DO need to get behind and support anybody who contributes to kiwi music - its all good!!
