Okay, this may sound like a meaningless whine... but what better place than here?
I just can't stand the term 'nu-metal'. It really irritates my proverbial goat.
People don't call it 'new' metal, but literally place an emphasis on 'nu'... odd, how very odd.
I just want to get a feel for what everyone feels about the name of this genre of music....

As for the name, maybe its designed to stand the test of time, for when new metal isn't nearly new anymore.

i remember when one of my favourite bands came out years ago, they were slagged off as being both metal and using keyboards, slagged off big time, and then suddenly everyone changed their minds cos it was trendy to follow the crowd - that band was Faith No More.
for me the jury is out on Nu-Metal. i'm gonna leave it to gestate some time and come back to it - it will develop and find a place as the bands/musicians gain more experience ...

nu metal is a really bad genre name, i dont use genre names most of the time, it pigeon holes bands way too much and it seems that if a band is considered " nu-metal" its automatically bad or just not cool.

ill take an addition to those - u can call it Cock Rock, Kiddie Rock, mall metal, mall punk or Butt Rock (the mullets and all) it doesnt make a difference - top 40 punk/metal bands are just like avril langive (or however u spell it) and milli vanilli - lame arse posers.

I don't think that the problem with nu-metal is whether or not they have a dj or scratch artist playing with them...it's always good to try new stuff & not get boxed into thinking there's only one way to do things.
My problem with nu-metal is that is may as well be called pop-metal. It seems as if it's just another way for record companys to make more cash. There doesn't seem to be much meaning in the songs, or else they just sing about the same old teenage angsty crap......"It's all about the nookie, the nookie, the nookie, so you can take that cookie & stick it up your ass" What?????
