In a place far far away from home, where not much in the way of those nice bands from godzone wander (only three this year so far), two have unfortunately booked themselves of the same night...
On Monday November 4 a choice has to be made.... The Datsuns (10pm TT the Bears Place) or Jeremey and Dave from Garageland (10pm Kendall Cafe).
Arrgh, which to choose?
Has anybody heard the two Garageland chappies do their accoustic set recently? Any good?

Where'd you find your info on the Datsuns? To your knowledge, are they doing any other US cities?

I stumbled upon it while perusing the gig guide for TT the Bears place, but they are playing other US cities.
From Ticketbastard (ticketmaster.com), it lists...
11/2/02 Maxwells, Hoboken, NJ /w the D4 (which I might have to go to so I can see both G'land boys and Datsuns, plus the D4)
11/07/02 Little Brothers, Columbus, OH
11/12/02 Magic Stick, Detroit, MI
11/15/02 Troubador, Hollywood, Ca
There are some big gaps there so I'm sure there are other dates on the way.
They are touring with the Bellrays, the Black Keys and Imperial Teen (at different cities), so if the Datsuns havent got around to putting their dates up on their site, try the respective sites of those three groups.
Postman, was that 1000 turned away in the uk or nz?

yeh, I checked the Datsuns' site first. I didn't even think of ticketmaster. Why the hell would they play Detroit and not Minneapolis? I can only hope it's a partial list. I can't imagine they'd spend 3 days between Michigan and California, unless they were planning to ride tricycles from one state to the other.

as of the turning your back on the hype. I would see these guys in a club while you still can. They are a fantastic live band. and bloody nice blokes to boot.

Sadly the closest one to you (if my US geography serves me right) is Chicago. Would you drive that far to see The Datsuns?

I've driven that far for shows before, though god knows I hate Chicago. It is on a friday. I could do it, but I don't know if I'll be able to con anyone into going with me and it's a long drive alone.

I think I've resigned myself to watching the G'land boys in Boston and travelling miles to NYC (well, its about a Wgtn-Napier trip) to see the Datsuns there. Shame, because the Datsuns are playing support to the only new US rock group I have liked since I got here (Imperial Teen).
Anyway, Robyn, your website is really cool...it may just inspire me to start writing about all the wierd and wonderful things I've encountered since entering the land of the stars and stripes.

Hey, thanks johnnyjw and Red Devil. It's always nice to hear cool things from people who enjoyed my web site. It makes me write more.
Actually back on the Garageland vs The Datsuns topic, a few months ago I was talking to a dude who'd seen Garageland (possibly not the full band) play an acoustid set at a private function. He said he'd never really been a huge fan of them, but seeing them like that was amazing. Somehow everything was right they ended up playing a near perfect set. He left wondering why they weren't as famous as they deserved to be.
I guess personally, I love the Datsuns, but not their music, so I'd go for Garageland.

Get a saw and cut yourself in two and go see both. It's a tough decision Garageland rock but the Datsuns rock n roll.
Life is tough too many choices.
