Until now, only the top 30 songs were published from the APRA 75th anniversary poll/etc for New Zealand's top songs. From what I've gathered @ smokecds.com, there's a new comp album called Nature's Best 2, & seems to imply that these were the songs voted 31-65. Didn't give artists, only titles - I've filled in some obvious ones etc etc.
DD Smash - Outlook For Thursday
Straitjacket Fits - Down In Splendor
Crowded House - Better Be Home Soon
OMC - How Bizarre
Dave Dobbyn - Language
- Message To My Girl
Patea Maori Club - Poi E
- Stuff And Nonsense
- Venus
- System Virtue
Tim Finn - Fraction Too Much Fiction
Herbs - French Letter
- Maxine
- Out On The Street
- Slippin' Away
Stellar* - Violent
Exponents - Why Does Love Do This To Me
- 1905
Disc 2:
- Anchor Me
- Bliss
- For Today
King Kapisi - Screems From Tha Old Plantation
- Cheryl Moana Marie
- Blue Day
Zed - Glorafilia
- Good Morning Mr Rock 'n Roll
Split Enz - History Never Repeats
Sisters Underground - In The Neighbourhood
- Julia
Shihad - Pacifier
- Let's Think Of Something
- Bursting Through
- Liberty
- Sweet Disorder
- Asian Paradise
First point of discussion - no songs by the Clean made the TOP 65!?!? I mean, I was shocked enough that none were in the top 10/30/whatever, but this beggars belief (& makes me somewhat unsure that this is the actual list from the votes).

thanks for the link, Sinista.
&, agreement, iluvtheclean ("Spooky" should have easily been top30). & I think the lack of Headless Chickens tracks etc etc.
It's just the fundamental . . . conservativeness . . . of the list that fucks me off - I'm guessing there's very few young APRA members, or that the celebrities they got to vote for it were . . . I dunno. There are WAY WAY TOO MANY Dobbyn/Finn songs represented; & while I'm glad (heh, "shocked" or "surprised" might be more accurate) that King Kapisi, Sisters Underground & so on were included; it smacks of rockist tokenism (haha though the list's coffin was already sealed when "Chains" wasn't in the top 10/top 5/no. 1 etc). (haha & where's "Room That Echoes"?)
I mean, while this isn't the most awful list imaginable, it could have been so much better - & what's with the very "safe" recent pop/rock on it? I mean, feelers? Fur Patrol? I'd just assumed that the list was voted by critics, or musicians, or . . .

the list was made from the lists of the APRA members who could be bothered voting. It is the sum of their opinions. Take it at that and accept it, I reckon, knowing that it is not necessarily a "best song" list.
Still, I reckon musicians generally have pretty developed taste in music. In my opinion Chains is a great song, but so are some of those top 10.
(however, let it be known that none of my top four or five were in the list's top 10). Chains would have been a pretty "safe" top tenner anyway, being a number 1 hit, wouldn't it?
I'm glad you are passionate about the music you love, if more people were, more passionate music would be made.
