Okay, I'm a student from the Canterbury School of Media, and what we're doing is we're getting ready to broadcast on K1W1, which is an all kiwi music station, what I need to do is get input from NZ music fans around Aotearoa on what they think of an all kiwi music station and how to get a hold of bands around the country that don't get the chance to have any of their music played.
I just want to know if I can start a new forum on the foretold topic?
Thanks

I like the thought of it, but not being in Christchurch, I don't have any way of judging how necessary it is down there. How responsive is RDU to random submissions on music, are there any other stations that have an open door policy in Chch? Judging from last week's thread, if you were to move to Wellington, you'd be offered many band member's first born!
And Nato - another address you could try and be guaranteed airplay is Domestic show (Barry), Radio Control, Private Bag 11 222, Palmerston North - I am already a fan. We already have several Phoenix Foundation tracks play-listed and I'll be in the queue to buy the album first thing, but if there are other tracks, hemihystricl, (or any other reader) - use the addy I've just given.
Makso83 im not sure if this is possible ...
Makso83 im not sure if this is possible but you should try to have your all kiwi music station posted on the internet so anyone who wants to hear kiwi music can, and im also wondering do the bands have to be signed?
cheers
Does anyone know of such a thing? As I ...
Does anyone know of such a thing? As I don't live in NZ at all, an all kiwi station on the internet would be super.

Hey nonbreed!
Nah the bands don't have to be signed, I mean K1W1 is not aiming to be a mainstream music station, we're just trying topush kiwi music as mush as the b.net wants to but yeah if you know anyone that has good shit get them to contact us via e-mail. k1w1fm@yahoo.co.nz.
Cheers

It's a terrific idea for a radio ...
It's a terrific idea for a radio station, but a terrible name. It reminds me of Kiwi FM, the middle-of-the-road radio station that ruled Hamilton's airwaves from the mid '80s to the early '90s.
But then, I can't think of anything better.

It would be nice to hear an radio ...
It would be nice to hear an radio station with an all New Zealand playlist, and a stream on the internet would also be handy for people outside your broadcasting range. Although, I think a station may run into problems finding new material sometimes, as it seems that there is not a constant supply of releases throughout the year.
I would like to hear;
artist spotlights,
regional and genre themed shows (as well as mix playlists)
pre-recorded or live to air performaces,
interviews and documentaries,
all genres and eras,
requests,
news about what's happening in the New Zealand music scene,
two hosts on the talk show who hold contrasting opinions (if the station has a talk show),
both signed and unsigned artists of high quality.
Things which I prefer not to hear are;
Chart and countdowns,
Over-enthusiatic-cos'-this-is-how-mainstream-radio-stations-speak announcers,
Shows with rigid structures.
As for contacting bands, you probably have to do some work and contact the lables and ask nicely (there's a nice list in nzmusic's artists section), or contact APRA. Telling artists about the link below wouldn't hurt either.
(Do I get an 'A'?)

Howdy peoples! Thank for your input ...
Howdy peoples!
Thank for your input feel free to put in a bit more so that we know how to reformat our station (except for 'Carl' I get the feeling that I might know you).
Anyways, if you want to send material or info so that we can put together a few profiles send your stuff to:
Aoraki Polytechnic (Canterbury Campus)
PO Box 22096
Christchurch
And address it to either Dave Warring (Station Manager/Tutor) or myself (Max Siitia - co-music liaison) and PLEASE be sure to leave your contact details in there somewhere so that I can get back to you.
Cheers
P.S. Escy you do get an 'A' cos' that's the same exact thing that I want the station to be like.
Hi peoples (again) No the band does ...
Hi peoples (again)
No the band does not have to be signed, we're focusing more on the alternative side of music (alternative is not a bad word), and we're holding off on the jetstream thingy cos' our computer needs to be reformatted into Windows, by then we will be on the net (YAY!).
But don't worry we WILL be on the internet before our major broadcast so yeah.
GOOD THINGS DO COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT.
