hey rawer fullas didn't get a chance to chat last night so i'll do it publicly you guys sounded bloody good - adding another guitar has just added another dimension some *really* cool vibes in there and huge wall-o-noise. andrew was thrashing about and screaming about "not knowing where he was going". straight to top of the pops my man - that's where *you're* goin' :o)
- anyway - great gig you guys - thanks - Josh
How much arse did Rawer kick last night? Still blown away by the sheer power of it all - shit they get some serious volume - and everything was bang on the money. Great gig fullas.
Infact, sorry to hijack but my curiosity is getting the better of me, what time is he on Active mana?
I knew he was doing stuff for them, didn't know he was announcing.
Assuming we are talking of the same person.
There was an interview with Jon Toogood on. When Jon was asked what local bands he was into at the moment, he ummed and aaahed for a while, so Rhys suggested that he go check out Rawer. Jon does not acknowlege this and talks about another band. Just before end of the interview Rhys said something along the lines of 'hey Jon, thanks for taking the time to talk to us blah blah blah and don't forget to check out Rawer tonight, at Bodega.'
coincidence or setup? whatever, it was fucking funny.
Man, we need more announcers like that. What a classic call - I'm sure even Pacifier could appreciate it.
On a semi-related note, my opinion of Simon Dallow has gone up since before last night. Why? This quote, on the IQ test show last night: "Builders, is there a consensus of opinion over there? Oh..... sorry...... I mean, do all of you think the same thing?"
party up, up in herre . . . what did people think of the 3-track showcase? loved their "new direction" or whatever, to bits (this might be my favourite incarnation of them, ever), ably helped out by (I think) Dale Cotton doing sound - now, if we can just get the DFA to produce them, haha . . .
I cant believe this is the same band. I think they have found something really special with this new line up. It was melodic, punishing, dense, stark all in one.
Everyone there couldnt stop talking about them. It was mind blowing.
What a Singer, What a drummer and what a bass player! I expect enormous things.
yeah man, i liked what i saw, but keen to see more than just 3 songs. there is nothing in nz like them at all. i was expecting another noise rock band with lots of gay looma effects, but they are really stripped back like the name says eh. they certainly scared the hell out of the U2 crowd that was there.
not so much my sentiments more a tounge in cheek reference to a previous conversation i had with someone. I like looma, thats why i bought their album, but he does get a bit 'far out' on the effects you gotta admit.
So how do you pronounce the name? "Raw-er" or "roarer"? I'm a "roarer" man myself, it's like the second half of aurora. They're a fucking good band though eh?
Just because they change their name doesn't mean they are selling out.
There is no fucking way that radio station DJ's are going to try to pronounce Rawer. People are overly sensitive these days and there is no way that the NZ (let alone American) public are not going to be offended by having a speach impediment forced apon them. I think it's a sign of respect on the bands behalf, towards broadcasters and public that they do change it.
Fuck you guys it's the same band! they're still going to make the same music! So please, enough of the name change already.
my! my! my! whats up mana. i think all commenters here are fans. "Rawer" are one of my favourite bands in the country, and as such, I had a certain attachment to the name. I fully support the boys in their desicion, but am just expressing how much i liked the old name.
I know andrew always hated the name, i couldn't understand why.
