These guys seem like a damn fine band, if the're previous accompliousments (excuse spelling) are to be judged by these guys will go far... go garage rock!!!!
yeah go hard!!!!!

what are they like jonny jr? did you see them play on friday night?

They were f'n cool! ... a much more uptempo rocky/60's sound than the much-missed DSuper ... and I've got some nice recordings to prove it ;-)

no i haven't but i know a few of the members and they rock so i can say with out hearing them they will rock, it sounds crazy but i don't care!!!

JOEL SWALLOWS!
canvas sucked, the shining path will too. your shit mainstream music isnt progressing at all. shame bitch. JOEL SWALLOWS! and third wave ska is boring now

The Shining Path is a totally different sound to Canvas (no disrespect to Canvas). Please come and introduce yourself after our next gig (this Sunday with Two Lane Blacktop at Bodega), and maybe we can dicuss your small penis. Fuck off and go back to listening to Blindspot and 8 ft Sitiva.
Kirsty xoxo

come on now..it's not that smart to outright say that someone or something sucks....try phrasing it like..."I think Canvas suck" and "i reckon the shining path will too".
The way you said it, makes it out to be a general "fact-like-statement" , and that makes you look very smart, or.....actually it makes you look like....well... everyone who has read your comment will know what it makes you sound like....enjoy your lovely personality, i'm sure your a lovely... no in fact...swell person. ps i'm sure your name is deeply imbeded inside you

ummmm this guy, just logged on to just piss people off, he will never see these posts, so don't bother, hes just trying to incite everyone

Hey raised_cock how about you tell us what band you are in and then we can abuse the shit out of you.
Have a nice day

The Shining Path are helping to get Two Lane Blacktop to Australia. Playing Bodega this Sunday 24 Nov. Come and help them afford Duty Free, only $5!

Hell yeah!!! Can't wait! :)

good on ya for helping them get to australia, hope its a one way ticket!

is it all ages!!!
i wanna know
cause if it is, its another gig i can't bloody go to >:(

//good on ya for helping them get to australia, hope its a one way ticket!//
and just what exactly is that supposed to mean?

Well... I think Trial D wants you outta here, Quad. Bummer.

And Jon Jr... the venue is Bar Bodega - a bar. Bummer.

well that sucks, I'd like to know what exactly I or we did to warrant that sort of comment.

It's funny how Trial D's been posting this type of crap on a bunch of forums . . . yet at the same time trying to convince people to go see his band (Trial By Clive).

Possibly NOT swimming in the smart end of the gene-pool ;-)

Hey Quad, what time's the gig on?

// hope its a one way ticket!

funny, i took that as a complement, i'm sure trial d didn't mean anything harsh by it. I thought he meant...i hope you do really well over there and don't need to come back...ie "one way ticket"

Hey Vocoder, I'm not too sure what time the whole thing will kick off, but seeing as it's a Sunday and all, I would say around about 9.30 -10.00ish just to be safe.
Man I have just read trial d's comment below, and I have absolutely no idea why one person would have so much hostility towards a bunch of people that he probably hasn't even taken the time out to meet or get to know. That's great Trial D about the interest you have been getting in Australia I wish you all the best. Maybe you should stop bad mouthing people you haven't even met - it's not a good look

No it's not a good look. NZ is a small country and people remember things. Don't fuck up your career with bad mouthing and bravado.

didn't mean to be harsh, all the best for them! and by the way I'm glad vocoder has been reading my comments, trial by clive are talking business with music "executives" in australia because their is alot of interest with their music . dream on vocoder stick to ya day job.

oooooooo. i feel a fight coming on. no need to be a cunt "trial d". Vocoder didn't do anything to you, Vocoder work a hell of alot harder then trial, and deserve much more.

Thanks Blink . . . but nah, I'm too busy with my "day job" to fight anyone ;-) . . . in all seriousness good luck with yr gig tonight Trial D . . . just don't expect anyone here to give a rat's ass if you keep goin' around trying to start fights . . . :)

i can see the head lines now

"the battle of the thursday nighters!!"

A Cross bar exclusive!

I'd be there for that.

Dear oh dear,

Well it's pretty sad this this is a Shining Path forum yet another NZMUSIC squabble about something completely different is on it's way.

I don't know whats going on but I play bass for Trial by Clive and I think Two Lane Black Top are a great band, but there you go. Who gives a fuck anyway.

Musicians will be musicians... I wouldn't play a fucken' note for this band If I didn't think we had the fucken potential, and I do know how hard I work Ian. We all work hard.

Any band playing whatever the fuck they want whenever is a good band. Thats pretty sentimental but its serious. Good luck to everyone (including me) for our gigs.

Behave yourself trial d....

I'm the un official spokeswoman for trial by clive I would like to say that trial by clive do not want to fight and neither do I (cause I'm a chick!). trial by clive went off last night at valve and the rolling stones song was wicked, good stuff guys!
dream on blink, you geek! its not 1992 anymore.

//I'm the un official spokeswoman

they should can you're ass.

//dream on blink, you geek! its not 1992 anymore

don't start a fight with me.

i was merely pointing out that trial by clive, mere babies on the scene, having recorded an ep before ever playing live and having played a handful of shows, have not earnt their stripes as have vocoder who have been fighting the good fight for a hell of a lot longer then "trial", i don't wanta get into this as i get on with dave "bassist" from trial and I don't want to get personal, but fuck off.

//its not 1992 anymore.

not hassleing trial, but if you firlmy believe that they are more "progressive" then vocoder then you have to be kidding. I don't even think Vocoder attempt to be progressive, their surf inspired alt rock with huge lashings of eighties new wave pop is a good deal more interesting then trials early 90s oasis brit pop with a rocky edge style ....sorry dave, don't take it personally, just trial d needs to relax and stop trying to start fights. trial by Clive will get a lot further alot faster without bitchs like "trial d"

//you geek!

and proud!

Question: Who the fuck are trial by clive? Um i have my head pretty close to the ground and never heard of them.

Oh and Ian I will stripe yo ass.

andoru, do you not reckon that was a fair call? or are you falling in love with the bitchy miss trial d, is she after your shit stirring little heart. (she hates bands and me...what more could you want :0) .......anyway get off the computer and answer your phone, dammit.

The bass player in trial by clive is called Dave.
Wouldn't a good name for the bass player named dave who plays in trial by clive be trial d?
Because he plays in Trial and his name is dave.

//cause I'm a chick!

that's no excuse for not wanting to fight to the death for your band chickie!
I am a chick and I am prepared to kick ass for my boys vocoder if it so needs be!
and for that matter I would come to the defence of 'the shining path'& the now 'rearranged'(?) 'canvas'..
I'd rather it not come to blows, but hell I've got nothing better to do right now..
;)

but that said, fighting is bad children...it's not cool, or clever!

yeah, blink you stand up for geekdom, ironically if we weren't music geeks then we might not be hanging around here ey!?

I would rather listen to vocoder than TBC any day, because Vocoder play for the RIGHT reasons, first and foremost being that they love music. I get a kick out of seing them play because they LOVE IT. They do not harbour any allusions of stardom or have ambitions of being in talks with Australian record execs. Vocoder are punk, TBC are fucking hilarious, po faced quasi-goth with the worst demo cover ever.
That is all.
marty

Cor... thanks for all the nice comments blink, marty and alex! ... and it's also kinda nice to know that Trial D is an "unofficial" spokesperson for Trial By Clive, so we're not gonna get into a situation of bands fighting one another ... (tho' I'd gladly resort to random acts of violence against any member of Creed ...)

anyway back to the REAL subject of this forum ... how was the TLBT gig??? I couldn't make it as I was out of Wellie until about 9.40! ... at least I've got my Shining Path live recording (and the TLBT demos soon) to tide me over ... :)

PS: Alex, don't resort to violence just coz yr bored! tho' it's nice to know we have muscle backing us up ;-)

http://www.vocoder.co.nz ]

they were fucking choice, amazing how tight and great they were compared to the cross gig, wow. They didn't go on until about 10:30, so you could o made it. looking forward to seeing them play more and more. I still subconciously compare them to dsuper, but it is a completley different sound, but still really good.

TLBT were ON as well, a wicked crowd for a sunday, and all the groovers were getting down. most impressed!! hope they blow those oz bitches away.

far that was quick blink.
rocking!

Both bands last night were excellent. More of both should be seen. That is all.

Awww... Crap! :)

//don't resort to violence just cos yr bored!
what other reason is there? ... hehe ;) yo, but I think that rachel will be the bomb if you wanted 'muscle' cos she kicks ass better than me!

Agreed - last night was certainly the highlight of my weekend.

2 questions
a) a rob was mentioned in the line up, but there wasn't a rob there last nite????
b) where was marty ;), i know ricky was around, but marty wasn't

all in all it was a great gig, seeing it was their 2nd gig, i was impressed, they've obviously got a while b4 they reach d-superish heights, but thats to be expected???
i was sad that they only had 4-5 songs, cause i was really diggin the songs they played, specially as they got near the end of their set :)
totally out of interest, how did you all find out about the gig???

Holy shit. Shining Path was amazingly good for only their second gig. No suprises really considering. So good to hear some Dsuper in the mix as well. Once again those Squire songs just had the X factor for me...

but highlight of the weekend had to be Len Lye and Jazz School at Civic - mind blowing once in a lifetime stuff.

yep, Shining Path were great. I could use some of their sound on my headphones right now.

I am wishing I got off my ass and went to the gig last night too..
but I had to watch the second part of a thriller.. cos it was good- kinda corny in places but good..
anyhow..

geetar hopw'd you guys end up getting in at 9:30? I thought it was 6:30?
and yah wimp, you could've gone then!
although, I stayed home doing domestic things so maybe I should just shut my mouth!
when are shining path recording coming together?

A Thriller over a gig??? you could've tried to con Morgs into goin' with you! Oh well, no excuse for you not coming 'round to Blink's tomorrow night ... and obviously you'll be at the Cross on Saturday!;-)

Rach must've given you the wrong time for the Ferry ... we didn't even leave Picton 'til 7.15 ...

it was a Gooood thriller, like, it was really thrilling! (urg!!) :-P :-P
I was afraid morgs would get all drunk and kiss me again, and anyone else that happened by ;) (poor morgs we do give him a lot of shit!) what should I get bass boy for his birthday then? mm..
yes I will be there with merriness and vigour..
well, I might not be that energised, but I will be merry, as long as there is wine and good company...

nah wouldn't wanna kiss yah, as being a sunday i wouldn'd be that drunk. and anyhoo, who says i woulda gone anyways(just kidding)
also, in terms of pressies for saturday, jamies pavement DVD is a good place to start(i need it more than he does, eh)
love an' punkrawk
morgs

Well done Vocoder, Shining Path and TLBT, sounded like it was great. I managed to catch the Shining Path/Vocoder cross gig and I was impressed.

By the way, Blink knows me enough to know I am not some sad fuck with two log-in names. I don't dream of Australian record deals either. But seriously what the fuck is "Quasi, po-faced goth-rock"

I like your band Mrs Squire thats why I was there supporting your first gig. Probably why you have our demos too. And I think D-super were pretty fucken awesome as well but don't put my band down ok, we are young and new but we here to stay. I love Wellington music and have never said one fucken bad thing about any band in this city. I have a fairly good Idea who trial d is and wish she'd shut her mouth but thats no excuse for trashing my band.

Instead of judging an album by it's cover (we are poor students, not poor design students) you should come and see us play live. I'd like you to since we will be around for a while playing our own music for 'the right reasons.'

This is all for good, hope to see you play a show again soon.

Can ya'll take the bickering about other bands to their website, its upsetting me. Do what you enjoy and don't pick on others. I had great fun at Bodega on Sunday, TLBT were great , very r n' r. TSP are recording this weekend, should be fun. Group hug.
